Great read for Mario Bros enthusiasts: How the MARIO BROS movie from 1993 completely failed at everything

I recently re-watched it. I forgot just how bad it was.

It was bad.

And if you’re really into reading about just how bad the movie was, here is a GUARDIAN piece from 2011 reminding us all of that..

Winter’s over. Spring weather slowly starting.. Time to spontaneously combust in excitement.

Anyone who knows me or anyone who has followed this website for any time at all the know I am originally from Centralia PA, where a mine fire still burns..

Today I took a quick drive through the town as I often do when I have a spare minute and noticed something on the porch of my late grandmother’s home. She passed away before the turn of the 21st century, almost 15 years now, But her home has yet to be demolished because it is attached to someone else’s.

To my surprise, as I drove by, I saw two blue small cages and blankets all over the home outside of it.. I pulled up and took a closer look and saw what appears to be houses handcrafted for, maybe, I guess, cats?

I don’t quite know what to make of this. I am a little bit offended that someone would go onto this property to do this, however I cannot justifiably say anyone owns it at this time.. So what was the home of memories for two generations now becomes a scene from CATS before it’s eventual demolishing.. I do not like that at all..

CNN's 'Crossfire' Returning In June

Not sure how to feel about this..
I actually loved the show .. But the difference between CNN then and now is that then they tackled weighty issues.. The new Crossfire will probably talk about Jay Z and Beyonce going to Cuba..

And besides, there will never be another episode with Bob Novak getting so angry that his teeth fly out.. God rest his soul.

I’d say if CNN ruins Crossfire, they may as well have just left it dead ..

We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing

A Defense Department official, as reported by CNN

The Washington POST details how far North Korean missiles can actually reach here.

The conclusion:

Fortunately, neither is particularly scary for the United States.

Meanwhile the Pentagon has activated a missile shield… I wonder if they have the same map of missile strength that the POST does…

Good read by Clyde Lewis: NORTH KOREAN FAILSAFE: A HARSH LESSON IN COMMUNICATION BREAKDOW

Good read by Clyde Lewis: NORTH KOREAN FAILSAFE: A HARSH LESSON IN COMMUNICATION BREAKDOW

I received this message earlier today

It was in response to my posts all day regarding North Korea.. Valid points are asserted, however. Read along:

Well the US has to treat the threats with some sort of seriousness. A threat is a threat, but it is really not one they should have children hearing about and scared of because as of right now nothing is going to come out of this. The fact that there are US military on the 38th parallel is no new thing, they have been there ready for attack since the seize fire with the Korean War. Actually, we are technically still in the Korean war since no peace treaty was signed, it’s just a seize fire. Plus I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the North Korean troops started surrendering as soon as we would start an attack. Lots of North Koreans are scared to speak out against their country since it means an immediate sentence for them and their whole family to prison camps. In previous wars, like the Iraq war, the conditions in the country are full of so much suck that the soldier surrender immediately hoping that if they aren’t immediately killed, that they will be given asylum in America. It can be expected that much of the same would happen in Korea since even their Army is starving and the wealthiest in the capital still have to abide to food rations. It’s just a terrible situation for the North Koreans. They really have no chance, I just hope if and when something breaks out we do something for the innocent victims living in North Korea, it is so sad. Watch some of the Korean documentaries on Netflix if you have it like Camp 14.

I still wonder what is Dennis Rodman thinking. And what the hell was he thinking in this picture?

Film critic Roger Ebert has died, according to his newspaper, the Chicago Sun-Times.

Breaking news alert

Time Magazine in 1994 said that Kim Jong Il ‘may be more dangerous than Saddam.’

That certainly turned out to be true..

By the way, in 1994, Kim Jong Un was probably about 8 or 9 years old. And his dad was on TIME.

How did we get here.. a little bit of a history:

North Korea’s road to nuclear weapons

Chronology of US and North Korean missile diplomacy

Intercepted communications in recent days indicate that North Korea could be planning to launch a mobile ballistic missile in the coming days or weeks, a U.S. official tells CNN.

CNN news alert

A North Korea update

THE GOD OF WAR IS IN THE SKY..

you are really some form of idiot if you think america should be preparing for world war 3 with Korea, NO ONE will back North Korea in a war, not even China, their kind of friend. Do your research on Korea's current state, their nuclear capability, and the history of bomb threats from them in the past and you will feel silly that you ever worried. It seriously isn't that big of a deal. This isn't supposed to be an aggressive message, btw. Just don't worry about north korea

Thanks for ‘calming’ me down I suppose.

While I am not worried, it’s certainly interesting to think that back in 1991, children were being told in classrooms that there is no concern of Iraqi missiles hitting the United States mainland. Children were fearful of it then.. But in 2013, we don’t really talk about how North Korean missiles will not reach the United States. Should we not be telling our kids the same thing today that we did then?

While I am certainly a ‘form of an idiot’ I don’t know what form I take. And you may turn out to be 110% correct that North Korea cannot do anything right. While they cannot feed their population they can now launch some missiles and tests that surprised experts in 2012. (While their famines have not helped, the United States and UN embargoes on them certainly have aided in them not being able to eat)

And finally, this is not meant to be an aggressive response, I certainly appreciate your message. But I ask this.. if the United States should not be preparing for war, why does it somehow seem we are? Missiles to Guam? Chinese troops on the border .. American troops on the 38th parallel. All getting ready. For what?

Maybe for nothing. Maybe it’s all a game. A chess match.

But somehow a chess match has to end, right? Either with blink.. or brink.

I often feel silly worrying about the things I do. In this circumstance, I certainly hope I’ll feel silly about Lil Kim .. So far I only feel silly about Dennis Rodman being in North Korea.

But if someone like Peter King gets his way, we could be at war due to our own actions and not Pyongyang. That worries me, too.

Amazing how we are prepping for war.. but no one is talking about any possibility of war. Are schools ready telling children not to worry? Are we getting cash out of banks? Are we stocking up with water? It’s amazing that such threats are being hurled by North Korea, and how the United States military is beefing up personnel and the machinery of war.. yet on the homeland from coast to coast we are talking about a college basketball player’s broken leg, another Carnival Cruise ship story, and gun control.. spattered in there is gay marriage. We are not mentally being prepped for anything.. so if something actually occurs, if a strike actually happens, Americans will be surprised and shocked. Is this any way to conduct a build up to a potential world war 3?? Again.. no on ever said that living through history meant you’d enjoy it..

Stay tuned for more.

  1. Until 2012, Pepsi used aborted fetal-cells to flavor soft drinks

  2. There have been so many suicides in China among workers making our iPhones that factories had to put up suicide nets

  3. Wikileaks helped bring out information that DynCorp contractors were involved with a child sex ring..

  4. There is a brewing water crisis—one so bad that rivers and lakes are drying up across the planet

  5. Very recently, the mega rich withdrew their money from Cyprus banks—right before looting..

  6. Obama signed the Monsanto Protection Act, and the NDAA. He often signed bills despite his ‘reservations’

  7. There are black sites across the world where children are tortured in front of their parents

Good to see that media is all on the same page. If you watched your local diatribe of fires, plagues, crime, and pestilence, you’ve most certainly heard that ‘economic factors may take some spring out of the Easter Bunny’s step this year.’

It was so noticeable that Conan O’Brien put a montage together of local boobs on the tube telling us the same statement from their teleprompter.

While the video is hilarious for obvious reasons, it begs the bigger question: Who writes it.. and how it is dispensed to all the stations? And just once sentence, quite frankly, could be proof that we are hit with misinformation all at the same time.

Remember, while some may have abandoned the big network news and papers, we still turn to the locals for the information close to home. And if the big conglomerates could get to them, well… the mis and disinformation could survive.

By now you’ve seen or heard about the horrible event last night involving Louisville player Kevin Ware. (Video here, watch at your own risk)

It was so graphic that CBS even halted replays of the leg break.. It’s most obviously the water cooler talk this morning and will be rehashed over and over again throughout the day.

When it happened, however, something else struck me about the affair. Immediately Twitter lit up with people’s thoughts, and my Facebook friends’ collective chatter was all about Ware. I get it.. It was a sports injury live on TEE VEE, it was enough to make you queasy.. and we all celebrate March Madness like it’s a religious event. So it makes sense..

But what is absent from Twitter and my Facebook friends’ profiles? Any or all words about innocent children killed in drone attacks in Pakistan. Any and all stories about the civilians’ lives we left in shambles in Iraq after ten years of war (those who survived).. And and all knowledge of North Korean death camps.. Any and all information about, well, pretty much anything to do with the African continent.

I guess I reluctantly understand this. I come from the coal region, where football and sports is worshiped.  Often, high school players get a VIP treatment.. And nationally, as the economic crumbling still happens and the moral decay is evident, we turn more and more to sports .. it’s a vacuum that sucks up the depression. We cheer on our high-paid professionals as though they know we are doing it.. we cry and wine about the other team that simply wears a different uniform color. We get angry and argue about college kids on a court.. and yes, when one falls by the wayside, we gather around the young hero and honor him with glory—of course while we voyeuristically gratify ourselves by watching the hero’s injury take place over and over again.

Not to take anything away form Kevin Ware, but it’s certainly amazing how little we know about a worldwide network of pedophiles.. How little we know about the amount of drone attacks in Pakistan.. how little we are aware of the Monsanto Protection Act..

But we know batting averages.
Football facts.
Boxing bouts…
And hell, even professional wrestling stars’ real names.

But did you know that, once again, America is getting ready to prop up another leader in the Middle East? This time in Syria? That’s not an April fools joke.

A few days ago I posted something on my Facebook page about the concerns I have with the Monsanto Protection Act, as signed into law by President Obama. My sister commented in a straight-shooting fashion:

Nobody cares about genetically modified corn until there is a crop failure like there was in South Africa in 2009. If fuel and veggie prices skyrocket…then they’ll care. Until then…this is tin foil hat stuff to most, Bryan.

And I bet no one knows much  about that crop failure in 2009, now do we?

Hey, there was a earthquake in Haiti .. we had a telethon. Oh and a tsunami and meltdown  in Japan.. we had a telethon. And Sandy .. we had a telethon.

All events of true importance somehow slip away like they never even existed in the first place. We are left in the end with sports…

Those football stars of the coal region often have something in common with heroes of Friday night lights from across America: Many don’t follow their dreams and make it big. Instead, they end up at the local watering hall, sometimes wearing old sports jerseys from their heyday, but always reliving the past and wishing it was still the present.

They now have Kevin Ware’s leg to speak about for a while..

In the mean time, other events that shape our lives will occur. But we’ll turn that off. It’s too inconvenient for us..

image

April fool.

April Fools day.. when we somehow keep up the tradition of mocking those who don’t follow the Gregorian Calender

But the one tradition I have come to despise about today: Fake news stories that get plastered all over the web are get believed by people who forget it’s April Fools Day.

Seriously, reality is so mind-bending that I don’t want to be barraged by fiction.. Reality is much worse. However, today it will occur, because that is just how it goes..

I bet there will be some ridiculous headline and news story that makes the big time .. and it will prove fake. I almost don’t want to read a shred of information today for fear that it will be untrue.

I don’t find any of this funny, or amusing.. It’s rather annoying, to be perfectly frank.

But here we go.

Be a fool on April fools..

[wpvideo XRSUiT37]

Here is a quick video from today.. the Coal Speaker family went to what was going to be a simple and peaceful Easter Egg hunt. I never really went on these.. my wife Tara did, as a child.. This was Ayden’s first in his two years and one month of life. We didn’t know what would hit us, and I am still quite surprised at what did..

The weather was quaint.. the sun was rolling in and out from behind the clouds.. There was a warmer feeling today, at least warmer than it has been for the entire winter.. And when we arrived at the site of the Easter Egg hunt in St. Clair PA, there were hundreds of people already waiting. Baskets in hand.. children in arms.. kids in Easter bunny costumes.. ages 1 through whatever age you need to stop hunting for Easter eggs…

How bad could this be, I thought? Mom and dad figured, ‘we got this.’

So we instructed the two year old Ayden the best we could on the ground rules. He ignored most of what we said, but he knew the basic premise: Hunt and gather as many eggs as he could.. There were even prizes, apparently, for certain eggs. My wife’s sister told us, “When you get ten eggs, go to the building to collect your prizes.”

That certainly sounded easy enough, right?

By this point, more and more people had already shown up. The POTTSVILLE REPUBLICAN this morning reported that over 3,000 eggs were hard boiled and ready for the event. Clearly, there were enough people to get all of those eggs.

Shortly after 1pm, Ayden and Mommy and Daddy happily got in line in the 1-2 year old section. And then, much to my surprise, an air horn let loose to indicate that the race had begun—quite frankly it was a race I didn’t know existed.

Once the kids were permitted to go collect eggs, the parents of those children quickly forgot that they had children. They pushed, poked, ran, and did whatever they could to get in front of others. They rushed to where the eggs were, taking every single one that they could find. I thought to myself, well the rules have changed.. So I took Ayden and picked up, realizing now that it was a life and death struggle for hard boiled eggs—you can hear in the video Ayden getting so excited about the immediate need to run that he told me, “HURRY!” Meanwhile, Tara was holding the camera for what she thought would be a cute family video, only to turn into a state of modern war.

At one point you’ll hear Tara, my wife, being struck in the face. Maybe by Ayden’s shoe, or maybe by someone else. The panic was so fast and furious that I just can’t tell.

In the end, little Ayden only captured one yellow egg. You’ll see at the end of the event, he was quite proud of that little yellow egg.

I don’t know what happened in other age group sections at the egg hunt, but in the kiddie section, I was amazed at so much.. amazed that, in this little “fun” event, how parents could act.. If they acted like this because red Easter eggs mean they can collect a dollar, I’d hate to see how they act before a big natural disaster in a grocery store. Oh wait, I already did, I went to Walmart before Sandy.

So I suppose next year, or next egg hunt, we’ll be ready.

Perhaps we’ll arm Ayden with shin guards, a helmet, and a mouthpiece. Maybe we’ll get him cranked up on sugar just so he can beat the crowd..

I am just grateful Ayden got a yellow egg. As my wife and I stood in amazement for a minute after the event suddenly ended, we also saw a spattering of kids and moms here and there, looking stunned, like zombies just attacked and ate the family dog. Maybe they, like me, thought they’d get a priceless family photo of their children happily finding an egg. Little did they know, other parents had much more ulterior plans.

All for eggs.

I am amazed….

Happy Easter nonetheless. Hopefully no one tramples your eggs.

Good evening everyone.

Hard to believe MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE is no mare. But at least we have what they created..

Sky News reports: South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reports increased activity at North Korea’s mid- to long-range missile sites according to a military source

7,000 Okla. dental patients possibly exposed to HIV

Next time you go to the dentist I’m sure this’ll be the back of your mind.. Or front.

7,000 Okla. dental patients possibly exposed to HIV

North Korea gonna kill us all? Not sure about that.. but it's funny how little attention their threats are getting

artistaespiritu:

Why aren’t we more freaked out about North Korea aiming missles at us. They’ve basically told us, “hey we are probably going to bomb you, just giving you a heads up” and we don’t seem to care. Just a little unnerving is all

This is quite a valid question. They may not possess the weapons they claim to.. but…

They are also a nation threatening to BOMB US, kill us, and threatening to reignite war with South Korea. Yet I flipped through the major NEWS networks tonight (news?) and the big story was all that March Madness stuff, and how people are faring with their big ‘brackets’ .. and how much cash people may make off of college kids shooting hoops.

And in the mean time, North Korea is readying rockets to hit US bases.

You hear that?? Maybe it’s not true. Maybe it’s a big lie. BUT IT’S BEING REPORTED IN GLOBAL MEDIA. In America? Brackets. March madness. Cruise ships. Justin Bieber shirtless. You know, things that matter.

Yes, artistaespiritu, it matters. And maybe we should not be freaked out as much as we should be readying ourselves for all possibilities.. It reminds me of the TRUMAN SHOW, when Truman Burbank finally made it out of the fake world he lived in. What did people do? Turn the channel to the next best thing..

Frank and the feet…

Now Pope Francis has made more headlines. This time because for Holy Thursday mass he washed the feet of young detainees in prison..

Something tells me that if Benny Natzinger did it he’d had to wear gold-plated-gloves..

I finally saw the WORLD ACCORDING TO DICK CHENEY on Showtime last night.. it was a masterpiece.. of sorts.

At the beginning, I was wondering aloud, “what nudity could there possibly be in this!?” …and then Abu Ghraib appeared… I remembered it vividly, but until the moment it was in the documentary I somehow forgot it happened.

The documentary also brought back other memories for me.. I forgot, somehow, that John Ashcroft was near death in a hospital.. I forgot about about how much of a role Scooter Libby played.. It also reminded me of those debates, long ago ten years back, about whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. He did not. At least not when we invaded…

I also was amazed that Donald Rumsfeld blamed the Bush Administration for putting so much stock in possible stockpiles of weapons, and basing the war effort on that single issue, only to be proven wrong…

It brought back so many memories.. I forgot just how dismal things were..

And then I thought.. where is that anti-war movement now? Could they have forgotten we are still at war? Where are all those angry about domestic surveillance.. surely they know it still happens? And where are all who want Gitmo shut down.. or who think drones are too much.. or … well, I can go on.

It’s amazing how quickly we forget history. Even me, someone who prides myself on knowing quirky facts and weird things. But I forgot lots from the past ten years.. Hopefully it’s not too late that I am already doomed to somehow repeat something..

I’d say watch the WORLD ACCORDING TO DICK CHENEY if you get the chance.. it was an amazing piece of work.

Finally, Dick Cheney looks healthier than normal. He may be the bionic former vice president.

Looks like a great Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis tonight.. what does our fascination with zombies say about our mental health?

Worth listening to..

That or you can try Linda Moulton Howe on Coast to Coast with bumps in the night.

You pick.

Computer Fraud And Abuse Act 2013: New CFAA Draft Aims To Expand, Not Reform, The ‘Worst Law In Technology’

I would describe this is a must read..

In this law, the government may be able to incarcerate any Internet user they want..

If you’re into UFOs are creepy things, chances are you viewed this UFO memo from the FBI ‘vault’ website.. The memo details captured UFOs and humanoid bodies inside.. the memo has been the most viewed on the site since 2011 when a freedom of information request was able to get the document revealed.

And it’s so popular that now the FBI has commented officially on the memo, stating they never investigated and it was a third hand account of something.. And that it does not prove the existence of aliens..

So do you believe them?

Living a nightmare.. the camp where you can live out a slasher film

Continuing on my horror subjects today..

Living a nightmare: Summer camp will let people live out a slasher flick..

The camp did warn this: During Great Horror Campout you may be forcibly handled, moved, bound, hooded, chained and subjected to simulated torture by our actors. You may witness strong verbal content, which may be considered offensive in nature. This content is part of the experience and is presented for entertainment purposes only.

I don’t think I’d attend this one. Maybe when I was 18, or 20.. or 21.. But as a 32-year-old my perspective on lots of stuff has changed. And in a world that is damn scary enough with real crime and slashing, why would one want to subject their hearts and minds to a fake surrounding of terror? To each their own.

Ten years ago I’d be interested in signing up. Now I’d just rather be in bed by 11pm and sleep peacefully with a slasher trying to gut me..even if it’s not real.

Another milestone for the horror world.. Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS turns 50..

This was, as I wrote with Kubrick’s THE SHINING, another film that I did not really appreciate early on..  Later as I aged a bit though I became more of a fan.

I wasn’t around 50 years ago when  it came out, but for those who were they remember when it was first released and how scary it was.. They still have the same creepy feeling.

And you have to admit, any time you’re under a large groups of birds loudly chirping, you get that deep down sense that ‘THE BIRDS’ premise is about to go wild on you..

Two good stories today on Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING worth reading:

Years back, I never really appreciated the Kubrick version of THE SHINING. I read the Stephen King book, and actually enjoyed the late 1990s TV adaptation (it was the late 90s,  right?, or early 2000s?) of the book. I thought the Kubrick version was a little too deep for someone who just wanted a scary movie about a frightening hotel….

But maybe it wasn’t deep at all. Maybe all those references people thought meant something actually meant nothing?

But didn’t Kubrick help fake the moon landing?? Or has the joke been on us all these years?

MY YEARLY ODE TO MINI EGGS

Oh Cadbury Mini Eggs, I love you
You’re chocolate goodness, it’s true
You melt in a mouth and not in a hand,
And are always fresh and never bland

Your milky goodness and your colorful bite
Can help any creature have a good night
Your Easter gift every year,
Maybe better than a cold beer

Mini Eggs, Mini Eggs,
To you I’ll walk with faster legs
It’s time again to almost part,
I hope your chocolate will not make me fart

The Easter season will soon be gone
And with that we’ll have to say so long
In a few months, you’ll be manufactured again
Eggs of glory for women and men!

Happy Easter.

For once tumblr may not be down because of their network

Millions around the web are seeing their speed slow to a crawl.... It’s like dial up 1999 all over again..the London TELEGRAPH reports this:

Cyberbunker is housed in a five-story former NATO bunker and famously offers its services to any website “except child porn and anything related to terrorism”. As such it has often been linked to behaviour that anti-spam blacklist compilers have condemend.

It retaliated with a huge ‘denial of service attack’. These work by trying to make a network unavailable to its intended users, overloading a server with coordinated requests to access it. At one point, 300 billion bits per second were being sent by a network of computers, making this the biggest attack ever.

1,000 dead ducks found in Chinese river

It was dead pigs first.. Now ducks..

Anyone getting the idea than something else is happening. Such as 1) pollution from an unregulated industry or 2) our testing of some type of bio weapons?

This story creeps me out not because of the mysterious deaths of animals but because we know the Chinese government will not be honest with what is causing the problem..

Watch for more animals. Something tells me it’s not going to stop with ducks, just as it didn’t with pigs..

The gay marriage debate may finally be settled..
Or just beginning?

This is not Kate Middleton. And she is not pregnant.

It’s tough being fake, times two.

Here is your must read of the day

Chances are you don’t know what the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ is.. I think it’s on purpose that you don’t.

Time to educate yourself now.

A tale of two Popes: One of these pontiffs is not like the other.

This almost looks staged to me..

Amazing how different Natzinger is from Bergoglio.

So where did that fancy gold chair go, anyway?

How to not score drugs: Ask a cop for some on a city street

According to cops, the Shamokin, PA woman stopped a police officer and asked him to help her a fix of heroin.. obviously the cop didn’t assist.

A snippet from the NEWS ITEM:

Arlina Alves, 49, of 142 E. Lincoln St., flagged down Patrolman Raymond Siko II in his cruiser while he was patrolling Liberty Street at 9:30 a.m.

Siko said Alves told him she needed a “fix,” asked him for some heroin and even requested a ride to York to purchase heroin.

After Siko pointed out that he is a police officer, Alves allegedly replied, “That’s even better because you probably have some heroin at the station that you have taken off people. I only need one bag.”

After realizing she wasn’t getting any heroin, Siko said Alves became combative and started cursing in the middle of the street in front of three adults and two children.

Siko said Alves admitted drinking a couple bottles of wine the night before.

She was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
