The political Razzies: Dinesh D’Souza robbed Ben Affleck of much deserved discredit

My opinion doesn't amount to more than a hill of rotted beans, but I think this year's Razzies Award pick for 'worst' film is the 'worst' pick they could have chosen.. It went political. The movie yielding the the banner of worst of 16: HILLARY'S AMERICA by Dinesh D’Souza..

The annual tongue-in-cheek Razzie awards, which serve as an antidote to Hollywood's Oscars ceremony, named Dinesh D'Souza's "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party" as the worst film of 2016.  D'Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author, was named worst actor for narrating his documentary and worst director alongside Bruce Schooley. Worst actress went to the person who portrayed Clinton in the film.

I get that Hollywood is anti-Trump, pro Hillary.. I understand that this is their time to make statements.. But I am increasingly wary of how political EVERYTHING is .. Even the Razzies, the awards meant to poke fun and be sarcastic to Hollywood. Instead it's given Hollywood a vehicle to poke at Trump. Which is fine. Which is dandy. But it's also getting obnoxious. I just want to go through a day without seeing anything about Donald Trump, or politics.. Just one day. 24 hours.. A cycle of freedom and beauty! But it will never abound. Instead, it's everywhere.. it surrounds us.. it inhabits us.. it precludes us from sanity.

The Razzies gave BATMAN VS SUPERMAN four awards. If it wasn't for the political statement that was being made, Affleck's awful disasterpiece action film would have been the sound winner for worst movie in 2016. It would have been well deserved. BATMAN VS SUPERMAN featured an array of boredom coupled with a sickening and dazzling display of non-creativity. It was the worst movie of 2016.

VICTORY FOR M. NIGHT SHYALAMAN! SPLIT still leads the weekend box!

Paramount’s Rings and STX’s teen romance The Space Between Us which are respectively opening to $12.8M in second and $3.8M in seventh..

The entire concept of RINGS appears to be oddly disjointed anyway.. it has been 15 years since the original VHS related horror flick. The mess of this film attempts to bind together early century technology with modern file sharing, and what could have been a clever homage to some other time and age turns into a clunky pile of 21st century junk..

But guess what’s first? Pretty exciting news for an M Night Shyalaman fan like myself: SPLIT is still in the lead box -- three weeks now and running..

And it’s actually the first title in Shyamalan’s resume to hold the No. 1 spot at the B.O. for three weeks in a row since 1999’s The Sixth Sense! Talk about old style century tech getting its revenge!

Good show M NIGHT..

SPLIT was a good film with (to me) not the greatest ending of M Night’s career.. but he was setting Philadelphia up for a sequel whether the King of Prussia mall is ready for it or not.. Bruce Willis is.

Late night estimates put Split at $14.7M for the weekend, and a running cume by Sunday of $98.8M, -8% behind Sixth Sense at the same point in time..

Prognosticators don’t think that SPLIT outshines SENSE, as a matter of fact by Valentine’s Day plenty of other films--included animated and a lot of SHADES of gray--will fill theaters..

The predictions for the final tallies:

1.) Split (UNI/Blumhouse) 3,373 theaters (+174) /$4.8M Fri (-39%)/3-day: $14.7M (-43%)/Total: $98.8M/Wk 3

2.) Rings (Par) 2,931 theaters /$5.2M Fri. (includes $800K previews)/3-day: $12.8/Wk 1

3.) Hidden Figures (Fox) 3,401 theaters (+50)/$3M Fri (-20%) /3-day: $10.4M (-26%)/Total: $119.7M/Wk 7

4.) A Dog’s Purpose (UNI/Amblin/Walden) 3,178 theaters (+120)/$2.8M Fri (-46%) /3-day: $10.1m (-45%)/Total: $32.1/Wk 2

5.) La La Land (Lionsgate) 3,236 (+100) /$2.3M Fri (-31%)/3-day:$8.2m (-33%)/Total:$119.1M/ Wk 9

6.) Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (SONY) 3,104 theaters (0) /$1.36M Fri (-73%) / 3-day: $4M (-71%)/Total: $21.4M/Wk 2

7.) The Space Between Us (STX) 2,812 theaters /$1.48M Fri. (includes $170K previews)/3-day: $3.8M/Wk 1

8/9) Sing (ILL/UNI), 2,293 theaters (-409) /$905K Fri.(-33%) /3-day cume: $3.75M (-41%)/Total: $262.6M/Wk 7

Lion (TWC) 1,405 theaters (+830) /$1.1K Fri (+83%) /3-day: $3.75M (+63%)/Total: $24.4M/Wk 11

10.) xXx: The Return Xander Cage (PAR/REV) 2,478 theaters (-1,178) /$1.1M Fri (-50%)/3-day: $3.6M (-58%)/Total: $39.9M/ Wk 3

LA TIMES lead Sunday: Will this year's Academy Awards see a repeat of #OscarsSoWhite backlash?

Glenn Whipp writes,

Their fear: The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite will be trending on social media again.

The academy found itself on the defensive last year when white actors earned all 20 of the nominations in the lead and supporting categories. The topic came to define the Academy Awards so much that host Neil Patrick Harris opened the ceremony by quipping: “Tonight we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest. Sorry, brightest.”

The good thing to remember, all: The Oscars are completely and utterly meaningless when it comes to what is actually a good film.

Why should we exist watching movies that are validated by people often under a cloud of movie suspicion..

DREAD CENTRAL gives us a list of the top movies for the winter season–horror with cold and chill as the background theme of the flick. The list here..

I disagree–you heard that right–with virtually the entire list.

The biggest problem is the lack of inclusion of my all time favorite snow/cold related movie: STORM OF THE CENTURY, by Stephen King. It’s the amazing near day-long experience, one that’s perfect for a night stuck in because of snow or a day held up because of closings.. Andre Linoge walking the streets of a town during a blizzard, looking for what he wants to go away. That’s scary. The list from DREAD CENTRAL, to me at least, not scary.

I am sure you have your favorite too..
Mine will always be the STORM..

Horrifying times for making Hollywood horror movies?

This article details the apparent lack of interest in Hollywood horror.
The article is right..
The newest PARANORMAL ACTIVITY flick is a sure sign of the big budget failures..

But there’s hope. And it’s not Hollywood. Independent horror makers (and all genres for that matter) are sorting things out and spicing things up far stronger than the known actors guild and pious studios ..

There’s hope.
Just look beyond what’s spoon fed and find your own meal..

Another angle of the JOKER

Another Look indeed. And this one appears just a little more ghoulish than the previous…

MORE: http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3341888/another-look-joker-suicide-squad/

Still not prepared to say I fully support this.. I am just not.

Getting closer with each picture, but far away from total support..

Reality vs fiction..

Reality is scarier than fiction.. that is exemplified in a documentary that you may be interested on NETFLIX called KILLER LEGENDS. you may learn something new.. and despite the fact no candy was ever poisoned on Halloween, the "CANDY MAN" section will still give you enough pause to check your kids' candy anyway..

I recommend the documentary for those interested in true crimes and urban legends.. this brings to light the reasons why we are freaked by hook hands, by masked killers.. and quite frankly, by people.

Among the things you may learn that you didn't know previously includes--besides no candy ever being poisoned for trick or treaters--are these facts: No babysitter killings ever happened in big numbers.. despite a number of movies being made showcasing it. The Texarkana killings are creepy--and even more creepy may be the yearly film festival showing THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN on a location where a grisly murder took place with the movie based in part on it..

And so many others.

Urban legends.

They all come from somewhere..

The other worldly nature of horror movies are not nearly as scary as the darkest minds and hearts of evil men who perpetrate evil and murder the innocent.

KILLER LEGENDS is scary for that reason..

Cinderella takes the top box spot.. but a horror 'Follows'

The family film secured $70 mil this weekend.. the audiences were primary women and primary families–66% for each category, respectively..

The horror film IT FOLLOWS got $40,000 or so per theater.. the tiny release will expand experts don’t see it expanding past 200 theaters but with this little film that could, who knows

Families and horror fans both happy with a weekend box..
Notbbad, Hollywood.. March madness.

Anghus Houvouras writes: It's a Trap: Why 'The First Gay Star Wars Character' is a war on common sense

Interesting article.. Worth the read.

The money quote:

Up to this announcement, any of the characters could have been gay. Admiral Akbar. Boba Fett. Hell, even, Lando Calrissian. Would it matter if Lando Calrissian was gay? Not at all. His role in the story wasn’t impacted by his sexual orientation. If I had read the headline ‘Lando Calrissian revealed as gay’, all I would have thought was ‘that makes sense: those overtures to Leia were overcompensation.’ Lando ran Cloud City, betrayed Han and friends, and redeemed himself by blowing up Death Star 2.0. Gay… straight… it didn’t matter.

And:

We live in a time where everyone is desperate to label everything. To define what something is or isn’t because saying nothing somehow implies intolerance. To me, the Star WarsUniverse feels far more intolerant because they’ve flat out told me there’s been no gay characters in canon until now. I liked it better when there was ambiguity to it, because it had no impact on the story I was watching or comics I was reading.

UK censors horror movie about neo-Nazi hate crime

I am not in favor of censorship.. but I don’t think the banning of this type of film has me particularly upset.. There is a certain style of torture movie I typically avoid.

However.. In no way am I in favor of this being banned.. Or anything else.

Horror is dead.

Good article from MOVIEPIOLOT.COM: Why modern horror movies don’t get it right. I agree with the point of this article by Pedro Asdrubal Diaz.. modern horror is not memorable. Last night after many things led me to miss the ANNABELLE release in theaters, we finally found a copy in a REDBOX and watched it .. The group of us who saw it figured it was going to be a modern classic. It was not. It was actually quite forgettable and unmemorable..  Creativity seems to be completely lost.

Will there be some horror hope? Here are 10 movies  of the horror genre to look forward to this year.  UNFRIENDED looks creepy.. 31 looks avoidable in my opinion.. `KNOCK KNOCK looks ridiculous.. IT FOLLOWS will be great, judging from early reviews..SPRING looks creepy.. And POLTERGEIST?  After a good trailer I am suddenly accepting this remake. We will see and time will tell if the film is as good as the two minute preview..

Two thumbs and a bum

The Latino Post has reported before that Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are rumored to make a comeback in the Transformers movie franchise..

image

It’s all good, and all. I actually really liked the first TRANSFORMERS .. and of course Megan Fox’s cheered on scene of bending over a car hood still is iconic in the history of movies..

But so much as changed since then..

Megan Fox now believes in Bigfoot and Shia often looks like one..

BUT IT’S ALL GOOD..

I watched SHARKNADO 2 last night

While some mock it, and others decry the acting skills, I quite loved it. How can it not be loved.. I certainly will not review it, rate it, or recommend it.. unless you’ve got a well established group of friends who, perhaps a wee bit, are under the influence of some sort of legalized liquid mind changer. Otherwise, you’re forced to see the movie for what it is: A tremendous waste of time.

But that’s why I loved it.
Time was meant to be wasted, especially on a Sunday night when the other real new programming on is HOARDERS..

Tara Reid? Oh my.. but making up for her lack of skills to deliver a solid line even in a joke film: Al Roker and Matt Lauer driving sharp objects through CGI sharks. That cannot be missed..

So watch this at your own peril.. try to make it a group thing. If it’s not.. you’ll wonder why you did what you just did..

Slick rollout on hold: Megan Fox Tells Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Haters To F**k Off

A big thumbs down on the haters from Megan Fox.. the extra-shiny Fox said the colorful language during a press conference today .. the run up to the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES may be getting a bit stressful.. perhaps Michael Bay has been putting on the pressure for Fox to get even skimpier and skinnier.. Not sure ..

But the truth is this: She hates you if you hate her new movie..

She said this about the newfound online bashing of the newest TMNT:

Let me tell you something about those people. How much money didTransformers 4 make? Exactly. Those people can complain – they all go to the theater. They’re gonna love it – and if they don’t love it, they can fuck off, and that’s the end of that

Critics who have already been critical were quick to criticize and critique.. especially thumb raising is how quick Fox was to use some interesting language and express such raw emotions so few days before the well oiled rollout of the movie occurs..

Fox has been going throughout the world to promote the film.. She’s the star. She’s the face..and the body.

And now she’s the sailor, cussing on stage and hatin’ on haters.

THE EXTINCTION IS HERE

….in box offices. And as some scientists say, in real life too.. but real life doesn’t make as much money as TRANSFORMERS AGE OF EXTINCTION will..

$104 mil + for the weekend? Apparently that is what experts are expecting or at least craving.. big money for HOLLYWOOD baby, let’s let the good times roll. And go extinct.

The heat of the summer is here.. no better time than the present to make oodles of cash off of people on dates and yearning for a cool seat in a heat wave.

But this is amazing: TRANSFORMERS made $81 mil internationally on Friday night for the opening day extravaganza.

Nothing can stop it now.
Not even 22 JUMP STREET.  Whatever that is.
