I already posted this photo today .. but I was so moved by it I am positing it again.

You have to imagine the scene.. Girardville Pennsylvania. One Saturday during the snow.. it was lightly coming down at this point, the roads were covered.. the former MARRONES restaurant was just .. simply.. there. Vacant. Lights were out.. No one was home.

There are collapsing buildings in Girardville on 2nd St.. The former home of the former Second Street Pub. And now just a street littered with the remnants of yesterday, the memories of a time gone.. of a century gone.

Girardville is very sad to me lately.. There are amazing and beautiful people in the town. But so many places within are literally falling. It is somewhat emblematic of so many other areas of the coal region..

So cheers for what once was.
….and tears for what is no more.

The moon is older than scientists thought, UCLA-led research team reports:

“We have finally pinned down a minimum age for the moon; it’s time we knew its age and now we do,” said Mélanie Barboni, the study’s lead author and a research geochemist in UCLA’s Department of Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences.

The moon was formed by a violent, head-on collision between the early Earth and a “planetary embryo” called Theia, a UCLA-led team of geochemists and colleagues reported in 2016.

The newest research would mean that the moon formed “only” about 60 million years after the birth of the solar system — an important point because it would provide critical information for astronomers and planetary scientists who seek to understand the early evolution of the Earth and our solar system.

The circus, once celebrated and honored, is closing down.. 

Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey is calling it quits after 146 years – 146 people, that is a long, long time..

There are a few shows to go .. but the curtain is closing.

The times are changing.

The two touring circuses will perform a total of 30 shows over the next four months. Most of the shows will be held in the South or the East Coast. Major stops include Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston and Brooklyn. Tickets can still be purchased online and at venues…

He passed away yesterday, but news of his death only emerged today.

Blatty not only wrote the original Exorcist film, but he also directed the third instalment of the franchise…

He was a door to door salesman in the 1950s.. began writing in the 60s.. and the rest is history.

Darkness Dave and iHeartRadio end their relationship!

One of the best paranormal radio talkshow hosts has ended his show abruptly and iHeartRadio has ended the relationship with him and his cohost.

Dave Schrader announced late today that the show Darkness Radio has ceased to exist. A new podcast will be available five nights a week, on podcast1.com. The show will be free and archives will exist for 90 days. After the 90 day period, payment will have to be rendered to get all programs.

Schrader said during his Facebook live broadcast late today, “download them all” so you won’t have to pay later.

This also will mean that since Schrader will no longer be an employee of iHeartRadio, his frequent appearances as the guest host of Coast to Coast a.m. will undoubtedly also end.

A fan favorite from his program called true crime Tuesday will not be going with him to the new show. It’s likely that I heart iHeartRadio has maintained ownership over that specific content..

The new program will be called Beyond the Darkness.

I get a sense, after this golden shower gate fiasco of potentially faked 4chan created news defaming President-elect Trump, there will be a debate about journalistic standards and ethics.. a report, one page at best and ripe with spelling errors, was broadcast to the entire world. Buzzfeed wrote a sensational headline and followed it up with a smaller print ‘supposed’ and 'alleged’ … they say they got the report from a person 'claiming to be a former British intelligence official.’

When tabloids broadcast sensational rumors that Obama had trysts in limos the media ethically and correctly decided not to even go there. This time??

Something isn’t adding up.

Remember the Hulk Hogan lawsuit of Gawker? He won. And there WAS a tape. In this instance it’s an allegation .. and no fact or source checking..

Early Monday morning, while the US East Coast was making coffee, dropping kids off at school, and cursing in traffic, a space rock as big as a 10-story building slipped past Earth.

The asteroid, dubbed 2017 AG13, was discovered only Saturday by the University of Arizona’s Catalina Sky Survey, according to an email from Slooh, a company that broadcasts live views of space.

It’s between 50 and 111 feet (15 to 34 meters) long, and when it swung by Earth, 2017 AG3 was moving at 9.9 miles per second (16 kilometers per second). The near-Earth object, or NEO, came within about half the distance that the moon is from Earth, according to Slooh.

The roughly 100-foot-long space rock was about the same size of the meteorite that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013.

The hack appeared in the forums of Russian retro gaming community GBX in the form of a YouTube video and step-by-step instructions — in Russian, of course. The r/NESClassicMods subreddit picked up on it right away and valiantly subjected their devices to the code, with great success. (u/zenmechanic showed Battletoads working, above.)
It must be said that this is not a simple process — not yet, at least. It involves booting the Linux-based NES into FEL mode, hacking the kernel, and injecting ROM files using a special tool. A GUI has already been created to make things easier and tutorials are being made, but we warn readers not to attempt this unless they know about things like MD5 hashes and config files. Bricking your device with a single wrong click is definitely a possibility.
