Dateline Tifton GA..
A FOX affiliate reports,
Jessica Ogletree posted a picture taken by her 13-year-old daughter to Facebook that had a little something extra looming in the background. No we’re not talking about her brother in the green shirt. Look a little closer at the shadowy figure (Did your eyes widen, because ours sure did!).
“Notice my son Kolton in the background and then notice the gentleman standing to his right!!!” Jessica posted on Facebook.
There’s just one problem with the man in the background. According to Jessica, he doesn’t exist! (Gasp!)
“Ya’ll this gentleman was NOT with them today and there was no one else at these back ponds where they were fishing. The only people there today were Haley, Kolton and their grandparents…”
According to her mother, Haley was going back through pictures she had taken during the day and noticed the (dare we say it), “ghost man.” Like any good teenager, she freaked out and called her mom. Mom wasn’t so much freaked out as she was excited.
“I personally think it’s pretty cool because today is Kolton’s birthday and he caught the biggest fish he’s ever caught! It looks like the man is happy for him!”
The image has been shared thousands of times on the original Facebook post and even more on other social networking platforms..

The monocle Mandela Effect

It happened again..

The Mandela Effect, for all its naysayers, seemingly strikes when you least expect it.. at the most comfortable of occasions, you find yourself uneasy.. Uncomfortable.. Unsure of what you may have just realized is true despite what you always knew to be reality.

Last night while playing Monopoly, I took a hard look at the Monopoly Man. I have seen him my entire life. . . from old board games as a child to even the NINTENDO version in the late 1980s, I have always loved the game. The newest version is cool but creepy–a credit card and banking fees, all electronic. So it was that when I figured, alright.. they must have modernized the Monopoly Man to have him loose the monocle.

Thus began another night of Mandela Effect thinking.

See… I went back, and I could not find any image of the Monopoly Man having a monocle. Even odder was finding people in Halloween costumes, dressed as the Monopoly Man with a monocle..

I also founds lots of pop culture references to the monocle.. people writing articles that that to really, really be the Monopoly Man you need a monocle to adorn your face. Even a scene in ACE VENTURA that would muddy the waters..

And nothing..

No evidence that a monocle ever existed..

Nothing to showcase proof that such a facial feature was on the Monopoly Man..

So yet again, another piece of information that weaves together a confusing fabric of the Mandela Effect.

I have long written about this topic on this website.. I have not really opined much about the validity of the effect, whether it’s true that reality has shifted or if we just all remember everything the wrong way.. Except a few times, name the following:

The turkey leg King Henry VIII mystery..

The movie KAZAM that never existed..

And OXICLEAN.. or however you spell it..

Add to that.. the Monopoly Man. And the fact that I have distinct and really vivid memories of the famous figuring having a monocle.

Unless I was just getting him confused with the PLANTERS NUT all of this time?

If it was on the Monopoly Man, no dice.

It’s gone now.

At least gone in this timeline..

Asylum-seekers in Sweden demand relocation in fear of ghosts

Several dozen refugees sheltered in a remote village in Sweden have asked authorities to relocate them, complaining the building allocated for their shelter is haunted by strange noises and flickering lights.

Swedish Migration Agency officials reported Wednesday that 35 out of 58 asylum-seekers accommodated in small village of Grannaforsa in the depths of Smaland province demanded relocation, according to AP.

The migrants complained Tuesday of suspicious sounds in facility’s plumbing system and malfunctioning electric lights.

“Doors are getting reopened by themselves,” Hamid Alojaili, a Syrian resident of the Grannaforsa facility, told local newspaper Smalandsposten. “And there is no one outside.”

The paranormal was in the news in 2015.. why not start it like that in ‘16..

Stefan Johansson, a co-owner of the facility, believes there ought to be natural explanations to the ‘ghost’ phenomena, blaming faulty wiring and slight deformations of the building’s structure caused by sudden temperature changes that eventually caused strange squeaking sounds.

But there are cultural and religious reasons that those logical explanation may not be of use in this situation..

Cultures are clashing..
Ghosts are thrashing..
Welcome to 2016..
The season of mean.

Why in hell are exorcisms still so popular? Joseph Laycock from Texas State University explains

And a part of the explanation written:

At Texas State University, I teach an honors course called “Demonology, Possession, and Exorcism.” It’s not a gut course. My students produce research papers on topics that range from the role of sleep paralysis in reports of demonic attacks to contemporary murder cases in which defendants have claimed supernatural forces compelled them to commit crimes.

In fact, talk of demons isn’t unusual in Texas. The first day of class, when we watched a clip of an alleged exorcism at an Austin Starbucks, many of my students said that they’d seen similar scenes in the towns where they’d grown up.

In 2014, an exorcism took place outside of a Starbucks in Austin, Texas.
A few students even admitted their parents were nervous that they’d signed up for the class. Maybe these parents worried their kids would become possessed, or that studying possession in the classroom might make demons seem less plausible. (Perhaps it was a mix of both.)

Either way, these parents aren’t a superstitious minority: a poll conducted in 2012 found that 57% of Americans believe in demonic possession. Nonetheless, demons (invisible, malevolent spirits) and exorcism (the techniques used to cast these spirits out of people, objects or places) are often thought of as relics of the past, beliefs and practices that are incompatible with modernity. It’s an assumption based in a sociological theory that dates back to the 19th century called the secularization narrative. Scholars such as Max Weber predicted that over time, science would inevitably supersede belief in “mysterious forces.”

But while the influence of institutionalized churches has waned, few sociologists today would claim that science is eliminating belief in the supernatural. In fact, in the 40 years since the blockbuster film The Exorcist premiered, belief in the demonic remains as popular as ever, with many churches scrambling to adapt.

Exorcism’s golden age

So why has exorcism made a comeback? It may be that belief in the demonic is cyclical.
Historian of religion David Frankfurter notes that conspiracy theories involving evil entities like demons and witches tend to flare up when local religious communities are confronted with outside forces such as globalization and modernity.
Attributing misfortune and social change to hidden evil forces, Frankfurter suggests, is a natural human reaction; the demonic provides a context that can make sense of unfamiliar or complex problems.”

The golden age!
When exorcisms take place outside Starbucks and the Pope lays hands on people to rid them of demons.. The golden age indeed.

The paranormal’s golden age is potentially here as well. When mainstream news focuses like a laser beam on devilish subject matter and strange lights in the sky.
It’s a good time to be alive. And if you believe exorcisms are the true manifestation of evil, then to appears to be a prime time to be a demonic entity.

How the Brits see the America zombie craze

Halloween is over.. Of course for those who read this website, you’ll know that the spirit of Halloween lasts all year regardless of the calendar..

In the light, I was perusing some British fishwrappers and discovered some interesting commentary from Donald Macinnes in the UK INDEPENDENT and some not so kind words about America’s craze with zombies–and how dislike of the British culture being so accepting of it..

From the article,

I first noticed the bloated US obsession with the 31st day of October many years ago, during one of my annual trips to visit my sister in Florida. I tended to travel there in late autumn, mainly because the climate is at its most tolerable then, with the late summer hurricanes having abated and the mosquitos taking a breather from all the raging sucking.

Every year, I got more and more amazed at the scale of the American approach to Halloween. Unlike in this country, where it took a distant back seat to fireworks fight, the Guy Fawkes-free calendar in the US meant Halloween was the be-all-and-end-all – certainly until the next holiday, Thanksgiving, trundled into view in late November.

It’s gets meaner. Really. Written as only a Brit could write,

And things didn’t end with ringing someone’s doorbell. Now kids get a handful of responsibly sourced tofu treats just for turning up, but we had to do something to earn our fun-size Mars bar – maybe sing a song or tell a joke. I would tend to have one joke ready that I would trot out at every door.

And while this incarnation of Halloween may not have swollen the coffers of Tesco or Aldi quite as much, at least we had our dignity. I’m joking, of course.

A big giant ouch.

Of course cruel or not cruel, it does not matter.

As a matter of fact, right now as I write this brief post, my personal Facebook feed is filled with my friends’ photos of their barhopping.. adorned with the most ghoulish of attire, sexualized in nature, they are gratifying themselves at a watering hole of their choice and carelessly drinking the night away. Their makeup is running but that’s the point: It’s the makeup of blood, zombies, and gore.

Yes, America is filled with the nightmares of Elm Streets around the world. But most of those pastimes of Halloween are borrowed. Let’s not forget where bobbing for apples comes from..where Samhain comes from..where all of the customs and traditions come from. Not America. We’re the melting pot. We get them from everywhere else.

Including you Britland.

So don’t let your tea run cold. And we can have our zombies.

After all England.. you have your problems, too.

Video shows a bar stool falls on its side without anyone near it

Filmed in Cato bar in Singapore’s Chinatown district, the vision depicts three men sitting inside the venue when a bar stool begins to wobble back and forth.
The CCTV switches to another angle, which shows the stool rocking about more forcefully until it eventually topples over, startling the men who rush over to inspect it.
But the scene turns truly spine-tingling when a tiny white ghost-like figure appears to emerge from the back of the bar, scampering quickly past them.

Congo "child witches" exorcised

Congo “child witches” exorcised

These are headlines that can be straight from old times of ages gone by. They are not, however. They are today. Now. Right now. The UK DAILY MAIL is running a big spread in their latest Britwrappers telling the hidden story of the ‘demons’ in the Congo children.. 50,000 at least who are ‘exorcised’ in a brutal way to ‘beat the devil’ from their human bodies. Nikki Fagge writes in more detail:…

THE NIGHTMARE worth a watch .. maybe not before bed

In April of this year the HORROR REPORT profiled the NIGHTMARE, a documentary film from Rodney Ascher (from ROOM 237).. It’s a series of stories told by people who Ascher collected to tell their tales of sleep paralysis. Along with the verbiage, horrific images of what they saw–documentary style.. The creation is amazing. It’s a documentary but can easily as one of the best horror movies of the…

It was ten years ago today that Pope John Paul II died .. What started today in 2005 was a strange odyssey of prophecy and paranoia.. Pope John Paul II was made pope during an eclipse.. His funeral took place during an eclipse, as well..

But I recall one strange and often neglected bit of history that made news at the time: He became the decomposing Pope. At the time, people who were attending days worth of a viewing for the Pope were horrified at the sight. Some even complained of a smell.. Pope John Paul was only ‘lightly’ embalmed ..As a report from the AP said in 2005:

"For a four-day viewing, injections of formaldehyde and other preserving liquids are necessary," Signoracci told The Associated Press, cautioning that he could not be certain what had been done without examining the body.
The Vatican has said John Paul’s body was not embalmed, only “prepared” for viewing by hundreds of thousands of mourners, refusing to elaborate on the procedure used.
John Paul died Saturday, and his remains were put on public view two days later, through Thursday. His funeral on St. Peter’s Square and burial beneath the basilica took place Friday.
Maria Campos Guereta, a 29-year-old banker from Jerez, Spain, was among the last mourners to file past the body Thursday. “Truth be told, he looked really haggard,” she said.

The entire world was watching, on live TV often, the Pope decomposing as the process of death overtook his body.. It was actually quite a creepy sight to behold, and one that our minds perhaps have tried to purposely forget..

For those who don’t remember the events of ten years ago or just weren’t paying attention due to age or place in the world, Pope John Paul’s death was a big deal.. It was earth-moving, and policy shifting.

But for me, what I will never personally forget, is the harbingers that occurred before his death—the white doves circling his head weeks before he died.. The thousands who gathered outside of the Vatican waiting for his passing… the election of Ratzinger.. The would be assassin calling himself a spiritual brother of John Paul..

And….that horrific sight of the pope decomposing before the eyes of the world’s population.. lightly embalmed and on display, rotting away.

April 2, 2005.. April 2 2015..
Ten years later, the news of the bizarre and strange continues.. Two more Popes since, and some would say a furtherance of prophecy..

Former NASA engineer claims he saw a NINE FOOT alien

I heard about McClelland before.. Years ago actually. I dug up an old link here where people are actively doubting his story—and even giving some evidence that they felt showed he was not even an astronaut like he said..

This new DAILY MAIL article doesn’t really contain new information, it’s just recycled stuff from about 7 or 8 years previous..

Can someone, anyone, please share information as to whether this man was ever even employed by NASA?

SCARY STORIES TO BAN IN THE DARK

Given history, I suppose it’s amazing I even got the chance to read SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK when I was a kid in the 90s. I was doing more reading on the upcoming documentary being made on this and learned something I never quite knew previously: This was among the most banned book of the 1990s..

Cody Meireck describes it best,

The interesting thing that I have been encountering as I begin to talk about this documentary is the question of how I can “bill” the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. It is listed as the most banned book between 1990-1999 and remained at #7 in 2000-2009. It was #1 on the list for several years in the 1990s. In the 21st Century there are a number of other books that have taken the mantel for most frequently banned… Harry Potter is often up there, and recently the book And Tango Makes Three is often high on the list because of the presence of a homosexual couple (animals though they may be). So although Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is no longer top on the list, for the last 25 years that the American Library Association has been compiling a list, it has been a major title on the list. The original books are over 20 years old at this point, and yet they still show up on the lists amongst more widespread and known books such as Harry Potter and Huckleberry Finn. That says something.

I remember the moment I got my first SCARY STORIES book.. it was during grade school when a book fair truck came and set up in the school gym.. I found this black book with a skull on it and somehow was attracted to the concept and stories.. It became a treasure for me and then, with each new one, I would buy them up for the collection.

The most amazing part, given history of book bans, is that I bought my SCARY STORIES book at a Catholic school book fair! The same Catholic school that suspended me for a day for bringing a fake Freddy Kreuger glove to class in fourth grade for our field trip..

I suppose the school’s nuns couldn’t be aware of every book that was sold. And even more, I ponder if the book seller was secretly trying to fight the pop culture movement at the time to hide these books from kids.

If it wasn’t for the SCARY STORIES books, my appreciation of the paranormal and even love of drawing perhaps would never have blossomed. I bet there’s a lot of 90s kids in the same boat as me because of this series..
