THE NIGHTMARE worth a watch .. maybe not before bed

In April of this year the HORROR REPORT profiled the NIGHTMARE, a documentary film from Rodney Ascher (from ROOM 237).. It’s a series of stories told by people who Ascher collected to tell their tales of sleep paralysis. Along with the verbiage, horrific images of what they saw–documentary style.. The creation is amazing. It’s a documentary but can easily as one of the best horror movies of the…

DREAMS OF MY SON'S TURTLES

A newfound respect from me for the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES..

…AND I DON’T MEAN THE MICHAEL BAY INCARNATION..
I am talking about the cartoon..
AND I DON’T MEAN THE 20TH CENTURY VERSION..

I rarely speak much on here about the cartoon world. But thanks to fate and me having a 4-year-old TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES enthusiast, I am really getting to know the new NICKELODEON version of the show. We actively hunt down and try to acquire any new TMNT Nick toys at whatever unnamed store of choice. Some are pretty tough to find. Our family has been hitting some roadblocks..maybe AMAZON.COM is our only hope.

The show itself is amazing. I mean that. Not just because my son loves it.. not just because I am a TMNT fan.. but the storyline of the NICK cartoon is rough and tumble..ups and downs.. action packed and moving at times. It’s well done, and it has spawned something personally for me..

For about two nights in a row, I have had a nightmare about the RAT KING.

A little background on the RAT KING. When I was a kid in 1988, I really don’t remember seeing the RAT KING as a villain on the show. He made his first appearance in show #4 in February of that year.. The RAT KING has telepathic influences over, of course, rats. He has been an ally of the turtles, a villain, and evil doer.

But most recently in the NICK version of the show, he has morphed into a truly horrid looking creature who fights Master Splinter.

Though I am 34 and the show is just a cartoon, I have found myself dwelling a little too much subconsciously on the RAT KING, enough that he appeared in the last two nights of dreams. Last night, for example, I dreamed that I was trying to either hide something or myself. As the day goes on, I remember less about the dream. But what I do vividly recall from it: In the night time vision, the RAT KING was the entity hunting down either me or the unnamed hidden object. And it was startling–enough that I would consider the dream a borderline nightmare. I didn’t wake up in a cold sweat, but I was sure glad the alarm clock alerted me to daybreak so the dream could end.

There are elements of the show that are great for kids. There are also some that are perfect for those aging a bit. As for me, as a TMNT fan, the program is dark and grungy but yet filled with enough humor that it’s easy to watch. So while I am a few years behind, I am saying now: I endorse this show. It’s great. NO matter what age you are, you can still be a kid at heart..

But the RAT KING?
He is a little creepier than the average villain.

A noteworthy item of interest. This morning when my dream was over and I groggily walked into the living room to try to start the day, I almost stepped on one of my son’s Ninja Turtles action figures.
The RAT KING, no less…
Haunting at night. And a toy haunting by day…

Nightmares and dreamscapes

It has been well over a decade since my paternal grandmother died. Over the years I have been given the gift of having some dreams about her—however she was never actually in them.. only her vacant house and her empty garden. Last night, that changed. I had a dream that we were saying goodbye to her house and her life (a long time after mind you) and she was in it.. she gave me a great big hug and whispered “where did the time go?” and finally “I love you.’ Even though it was a dream it felt like magic.. My dream ended with me asking her, “Do you believe in God” and ….boom. The alarm clock began to do its early morning magic-buster.. I never got an answer.. But I know that she loves me.. Ironically, this was also the first dream in which my son was actually in it—I have been a dad for two and a half years but this was a first.. I was showing my son Ayden a pear tree she had.. I found an old toy in her house..

But as for that potent God question?

Alarm clock.

A nightmare on my street

I rarely remember my dreams.. but last night’s was quite visual, and very memorable. The scenery was abundant.. the feelings I had during the dream was palpable. But looking back on it, I don’t quite why the night vision had such a foreboding threat of doom associated with it, but it surely did.

The premise was quite simple, actually.

I was driving —I think with my wife but, as dreams go, I can’t remember for sure—and we were in a mountain setting. It was dry and arid, looking like a drought-plagued dust bowl. The interesting thing, though, is that I recalled being there before. And it was not a good place..

As the dream went on, the discussion came up: What would be scarier: 1) If we see a house in the middle of this no-man’s land, or 2) if we saw a single person walking alone in the distance across the barren landscape.. We concluded that either would be alarming and would cause unease within the mind..

But why?

I mean, yes dreams sometimes take on a life of their own..

Looking back on it now, neither instance—a house or a lone man—really is scary in itself. But for some reason, that dream I had last night was actually a nightmare.. And I cannot figure out why looking back on it now..

Dreams and nightmares.

I had a surely strange dream last night involving several things. To make a long nightmare short, there were a few things that stuck out.. a long-lost friend of mine was in it. He owed a spa.. and his number was 717-747-and I forget the rest.. He lived in a place called “Normandy, PA.” And when I got home from visiting him, my father was driving up the yard in a car he doesn’t own anymore, and he fell into a giant sinkhole.. and then I wake up and see a Russian city is being eaten alive by sinkholes. I don’t see any truly correlation, but … it irritates me when I have dreams like this and am left wondering if there is anything to it..

One more creepy thing: My dream

I had a strange one last night.. the earth changed direction, or .. something.. It was 11:30 at night and it was still sunny outside. From my relocation of why, time itself had apparently changed because the rotation speed around the sun altered—but our clocks on earth were set to be the way they were. I then remember suddenly not seeing the moon and we were placed into a faster course. I think maybe this has something to do with my near tragic elevator issue from yesterday.

Good dreams with bad people

…strange night terror has seemingly been averted—for now..

I’m pretty certain that the priest from POLTERGEIST 2 was in my dream last night..

Maybe it’s because a post I had alluded to the movie? Or just because it’s that season..

However, in my dream, I don’t think he was particularly frightening but instead quite fun to be around. Not that I’m inviting him into my night again, mind you, but at least the most recent visit he made was somewhat pleasant..

Too much paranoia?

I had a dream last night that iced chemtrails were being sprayed on me .. They were about 5 feet off the ground .. I had a hammer and would chisel them. But even with them visible no one else saw them. Maybe I’m the next Edgar Cayce. Or just getting too little of sleep.
