Bad news for Ronan Farrow.. ratings are bad. So bad that he may get canceled, according to the New York DAILY NEWS today..

The DAILY NEWS says, 

Farrow, 28 — the opinionated, blue-eyed son of actress Mia Farrow and either Woody Allen or Frank Sinatra (even Farrow’s not sure which) — has been a disaster for MSNBC. The channel took the frequent cable-show guest and handed him his own program, “Ronan Farrow Daily,” which premiered in late February.

“He sort of stinks on TV,” an MSNBC source told Confidenti@l. “He hasn’t turned out to be the superstar they were hoping for.”

And to show just how bad things are, Neilson rated the show 708th place and was beat out by a “Golden Girls” rerun on the Hallmark Channel.

Seriously.. this is happening again!? People trying to apply for Monday’s midnight OBAMACARE deadline are being greeted again with the website ‘currently unavailable’ messages..  this is beginning to feel like a big joke—maybe it’s just an April fools prank and the website will announce on the 1st of April, “April Fools, you got until midnight tonight instead!”

UNbearable: North Korea conflagration again?

Well.. the war never did end.

As if Kim Jong Un and fake stories about mandations of his haircut is not worrying enough, this happened hours ago: North Korea and South Korea traded fire during military drills—real fire. Real artillery.  

Residents on five front line islands in South Korea were in shelters for hours ..

It's a self selfie world

California.. They have a beautiful state and, besides Hollywood, the area is filled with good people. And they are being told that up to 18,000 of them could die if a big one hit.. 

The UK DAILY MAIL points out, in our selfie culture, it’s sort of what everyone did after the series of weekend quakes: Take selfies with the overturned materials behind them.. They didn’t do THAT in 1906! OR … did they? My God.. I think they did!?

After I read the DAILY MAIL piece about the selfie culture, I found so many photos from the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake in which people were posing in front of rubble.. ruins.. and remnants. I think it’s because, in a sense, the selfie is just a piece of human nature.

It documents the fact that “you were there” .. that you saw what you saw, and for the record, you lived through it.. Just as those who wore those cloaks and vestments of the 1900s did as they sternly posed for the camera with debris and death behind them, we do the same now.. Perhaps nothing has really changed. Maybe nothing has ever been the same.. But the selfie has always been there. 

Even honest Abe loved to get his photo taken. I bet central bank notes that he would have also had an INSTAGRAM to compete with Justin Bieber.

And that soldiers would have taken selfies on the battlefield at Gettysburg..

Then again, as we see here, sometimes the selfie gets tasteless.. the Arizona Wildcats lost and the streets went wild, with students ‘rioting’ over the pointless nonsense that is called college sports. And selfies were all the rage, along with the actual ‘rage’ over nothing in the streets..

I completely agree with the BLOODY DISGUSTING blog.. these ads for PS2 (like the one you see here) are just awful.. just sick.. disturbing.. almost too much.

But also strangely amazing, beautiful, and memorizing.

And I guess that is just how advertising is meant to be…

NOAH just must not be like the book version

The epic NOAH movie is storming through box offices.. Christians flocking to it in bigger numbers than Sunday mass. But noteworthy are some Christian perspectives, as this one by Matt Walsh, on why it’s a terrible movie if you look at compared to the ‘book version.’ Walsh points out that NOAH was made by an atheist and that rock people were bad guys. Along with weird love angles.  I had no inclination to see this film. After this review, now I may just want to..

The New York TIMES called NOAH ‘less epic’ than a horror movie..

NOAH seems to be slated to have a $47 mil opening for the weekend.. Nikki Finke wondered if the Southern California quakes made NOAH seem a little too real to see in theaters.. Either way, it appears that the former Governator’s SABOTAGE failed massively.. 

So.. did we just find out why animals were running out of Yellowstone?

I just wrote this morning about quakes in LA and Oklahoma.. but I didn’t speak much about Yellowstone.

A major one, too..A 4.8 magnitude quake struck Yellowstone in Wyoming this morning..

The Yellowstone quake was preceded by a 3.0 foreshock at 4:36am MDT, about 2 hours before the main shock..

So if the animals ran, was it the 4.8 or .. is there more to come?

A raw and windy worry

Saturday night was a weird kind of night.. creepy.. rainy.. foreboding. Anyone else feeling like we are on the verge of something ..? There is just something about raw nights like last night, with wind and cold rain. The earth has power, as does nature. We don’t. Sometimes it feels like we are just constant victims to time itself. Each hour could be the last..
But collectively looking at it, I feel a sense of dread about upcoming events and times. And I don’t know why.. I fear the future this Sunday morning..

Here’s some reasons why..


This image is the 3.0 magnitude earthquakes or better across the United States.
We already know about the Southern California shaking, whether they be aftershocks ore foreshocks of a bigger one to come.. But take a glance at the middle of the country: Oklahoma has been getting rattled by quake after quake after quake—mostly in natural gas drilling areas where fracking is taking place. Just last night—last night—there were two moderate earthquakes over that state.. (and at a fracking location)  And it was felt as far as Kansas..

I was also catching up on my boom and noise news .. The Strange Sounds blog ran a post concerning booms in Missouri earlier this month.. I have actually seen some more recent reports from Missouri of the same booming noises taking place. And with all of these booms and obvious mini quakes taking place, it reminded me of something I have read before concerning the days before the last major New Madrid quake in the 1800s:  There were booms heard prior to the 1811 quake..

Speaking of the LA panics: They just keep happening: There is a lot of movement taking place in Southern California, as documented by this quake rundown..

Ebola winning. That's not good.

The deadly virus Ebola continues to spread, seemingly unabated. The outbreak has now reached Guinea’s capital .. people are obviously worried, as shown here, about what would happen should Ebola spread throughout the world. Meanwhile,the death toll continues to rise, nations that surround Guinea shut down their borders,  and Guinea orders a ban on eating meat.. The scary part is: When people battle Ebola, Ebola always wins..

A little venting here.. And nothing political at all is meant by it.. no statement being made. 

Last night SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE joined in the already apparent NBC comedy team’s portrayals of the President. 

I long for the good old days when politicians were lampooned instead of being propped up—no matter the party or silly side you’re on. It’s healthy to laugh at our Chief Executive and Congress.

It’s needed.

IT SHOULD BE MANDATED!

Instead we’re subjected to PR and badly written comedic mind control..  During the supposed political ‘satire’ on SNL, the President had to kiss Justin Bieber to promote health care to the young. I missed the joke.. I didn’t get why it was funny.. But I sure saw through the attempt to promote President Obama. And that is NOT WHAT POLITICAL SATIRE IS..

ABC7 in Los Angeles has a live streaming quake cam always online.. over the past day, since the city of angels has been shaking like hell, I have been sort of attached to this live video.. I realized tonight I was watching it so much that I actually witnessed a worker cleaning the needle .. I got so excited I did a print-screen to capture my ‘exclusive.’

Earthquake: 4.1 quake strikes near Rowland Heights; felt over wide area

A shallow magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported Saturday afternoon one mile from Rowland Heights, according to the U.S. Geological Survey . The temblor occurred at 2:32 p.m. at a depth of 5.6 miles. (It was originally reported as a 4.4 magnitude.)

This is after the Friday night 5.1.. and last week’s 4.4…

Seems to be a harbinger of something else coming.. 

This was the largest aftershock yet.

Or perhaps the second largest ‘foreshock’ of a bigger one on the way..

Get ready for heroes in a half shell. My son is already enthralled by the minute plus trailer for the NINJA TURTLES movie with Megan Fox coming out this summer.. Although I have read a few sources that are not as excited as today’s youth are with the Michael Bay rethink of the TURTLES..

And others are providing harsh commentary on Megan Fox’ abilities to transform into April O’Neill. The only thing I really noted about the trailer was the lack of substance, but instead the reliance on big action bombs and blasts and Megan Fox’s face. Not three seconds of the trailer went by without seeing Megan Fox ..

It seems that every time the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES come around, they get bigger. This one is no different. It appears that Michael Bay made them absolutely huge, as though they were steroid-using weight lifting heroes in a half shell .. Maybe too big?

As a student of the 1980s and 90s, the cartoon featured turtles who were short and fun.. As a matter of fact, even April O’Neill was taller than them. Not this go around, though.. Michael Bay made them ugly and huge.. They looked more like alligators than turtles.

And Megan Fox looks more like Megan Fox than April.

And Michael Bay looks like Michael Bay.

But does TMNT look more like Pearl Harbor than a hit? Time will tell, this summer…

But as with any quake, there’s a 5% each one is a foreshock of another.. The 4.4 magnitude that occurred scared lots of people. This one did more to do that.

Remember it’s been years since LA had its last big one.. The mid 1990s as matter of fact.

Here we are, in a new century. Quake free.

That could be changing.

Although, I somewhat laughed at the “damage” photos being posted. The good news from the images is that it seems those most busy with the ‘cleanup’ will be stock boys in grocery stores—much much better than search and rescue teams combing rubble.

Horror Movie Studio: Staten Island Clown Was ‘Just A Joke’ - CBS New York

The creepy clown that has been spotted on Staten Island in recent days was indeed the work of a local horror movie production company, the studio confirmed Friday.

We figured that this was just a fake tale to get attention for something. I don’t think the makers of the meme had an idea of just how fast the weird clown in Staten Island would spread..

But what boggles my mind is that the message was lost.. They are just advertising their horror studios, LENS PRODUCTION. For sure, you’d think they would have been trying to get a buzz about an actual project. Instead, it’s just a ploy to get attention for their studio.

Not sure if that idea was lost in the process.
I think more people would have assimilated to the clown hoax were it to be advertising a horror flick. But not a production company. Their name will be forgotten. A movie would not be..

BUT.. the clown will not be forgotten, either.

This is truly an amazing and disturbing report coming from NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC by Alexa Keefe .. It’s about Chernobyl and the horrid aftermath of the nuclear meltdown that took place there last century.

Earlier today I posted a big of a reprise of the 35th anniversary of the Harrisburg PA partial meltdown at Three Mile Island.. I mentioned how Chernobyl came a bit later. But just giving it a mention didn’t do justice as it is deserved.. Chernobyl was horrible, just awful. And some of the before and after photos in the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC report  show just how awful it was..

Autism rates now 1 in 68 U.S. children

And it’s not just the 1 in 68 number that is hard hitting, but it’s this too: This new figure is a 30% jump in numbers from just two years ago..

And we know these facts:

This newest estimate is based on the CDC’s evaluation of health and educational records of all 8-year-old children in 11 states: Alabama, Wisconsin, Colorado, Missouri, Georgia, Arkansas, Arizona, Maryland, North Carolina, Utah and New Jersey.

The incidence of autism ranged from a low of 1 in 175 children in Alabama to a high of 1 in 45 in New Jersey, according to the CDC.

Children with autism continue to be overwhelmingly male. According to the new report, the CDC estimates 1 in 42 boys has autism, 4.5 times as many as girls (1 in 189).

BUT..

and the big BUT…

Maybe autism isn’t on the rise (?)

• The new definitions are more encompassing now.


• Awareness has increased.


• The data only came from 11 areas of the country.

Either way.. it’s seems to be a big deal.

For all of the controversy over the controversial politician, Newt Gingrich has been one of the few people to come forward and address something no one else will: The fact that we need to survive the eventual solar storm or EMP strike that may cripple the infrastructure of the United States.. 

Newt and his panel of people (maybe a lot of rabid neo-cons, and perhaps I am just blinded by the sunlight on the headline here) are upset that there is little happening to protect the US from the eventual.. the fact that nine out of ten Americans could face sudden death..

I do get it, though.. this group seems to be most concerned about man-made terrorism.. the fear, the fiendishness.. all of that ..and yes, the big ‘uumph’ seems to be planting seeds of Armageddon fear that a EMP or nuclear attack from North Korea will kill us all. But.. maybe it could.

And if those manmade evils aren’t bad enough, what if the sun blurts out the ‘big one’? (The big one from the sun is something I have written about for years on this site, should you have been someone paying any attention) …

We all know this. The grid is riddled with failure-potentials.

And maybe Newt isn’t so far off in his outlandish worries..

The box office will be Bible thumping this weekend.. holy times are high, movie theaters will be filled with the faithful, praising Jesus and fearing the almighty, who flooded the world and forever promised not to with a rainbow. And then flooded the world OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Forget the actual ‘story’ of Noah for a second, or anything factual, or anything scientific, or any reality of it at all.. Instead. It’s TIME FOR NOAH. Brother Noah.. And his Ark.

We know this so far: The movie NOAH cost a lot of cold, hard cash to create. It faced a steady stream of criticism from the hardest of hardcore Christians, those hell-bent (no pun intended) on making sure Noah stayed true to the ‘real’ story from the Bible. It’s not in box offices around the world, and America.. And now Darren Aronofsky’s movie is making big inroads with the faithful, doing especially great with Catholic Hispanics and any town USA that has a strong Christian population.. You can read more about those Friday night facts from the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER..

Experts who get paid to run numbers on these types of things figure that NOAH will earn about $40 mil for the week—far less than it cost to make. But then again.. Sunday afternoon sales could be ALMIGHTY higher than expected. Just imagine if Father NamethatPriest rants and raves from the pulpit about this film.. The fervent will be filled with the holy ghost, enough perhaps to go streaming into theaters with friends and families instead of roast beef dinners at the family diner. Most movies have a date night like Friday or Saturday registering that largest numbers.. But just like PASSION OF THE CHRIST, NOAH could be huge on Sunday, bloody Sunday..

But for now, we only know this: NOAH is being released in 3,567 theaters strong. SABOTAGE is next with 2,486. And just judging from early numbers, Arnold Schwarzenegger will not ‘sabotage’ NOAH, but instead bomb huge at the box…

This is how NOT to advertise flying in the post Malaysian flight 370 world—an ad reminding people of how they may meet their doom in the vast Indian Ocean, the place where most think flight 370 ended up crashing and killing all aboard!

It’s a real ad, too..It was done by British Airways.. the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES is featuring it in its latest online runs.. It was first posted by Twitter users fascinated by the stupidity of the advert..

And now the ad is being dropped, taken back.. as though it never existed.

I am sure British Airways most likely wishes it wasn’t..

35 years later: Three Mile Island

It was 35 years ago, around 4am, that the nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island near Harrisburg PA experienced a partial meltdown .. So many evacuated. So much toxic radiation dumped into the Susquehanna river.. Even Saturday night live at the time spoofed the Carter administration response by showing Dan Akroyd, playing Carter, as turning green.

The world was gripped in nuclear fever—as much as those exposed to the actual radiation..

A few years later, Chernobyl occurred..

And now in 2014, 36”5 years after the Harrisburg disaster, Fukushima continues to unravel like a slow motion train wreck, causing a nightmare in Japan for the generation cursed to love through the horrid aftermath of the 2011 meltdown..

And if you don’t think there’s anything to fear about Fukushima, tell that to the young sailors aboard the USS REAGAN who are suffering tremendous signs of radiation exposure.. Those brave young men and women were among the first responders that the United States sent to Japan on a humanitarian mission after the quake and tsunami..

35 years after Three Mile Island, we are as radiated—and ignorant about the dangers of nuclear power—as ever.

Nearly a dozen Hanford employees sick from unknown fumes

Nearly a dozen people have received medical care at the Hanford site and at a local hospital in the last week after breaking in toxic vapors at the nuclear facility.

And this story still fails to make national news and get any coverage it deserves.. unbelievable.

This is a nuclear wreck and it should be getting headlines from all sources.

Instead, radiated crickets are all that is heard..

I saw a number of news articles poking ‘fun’ and making humorous quips about Kim Jong UN forcing students to copy his hair style..

Some laughed at how bad the hair looked to begin with.. others were making jokes saying “bad hair days” are coming for North Korean students. BUT.. is it even true!!?

Maybe not.. the most recent AP dispatch from Tokyo says that there are baseless rumors of hair cuts happening, and there is no evidence to point to anything showing that an official UN edict has been issued.

Word to the wise: The hair story probably is not real, but even if it was, it would be a distraction from the real news of North Korea.

You know, like the real news that North Korea has hell-on-earth style death camps that offer up a endless amount of brutal torture and inhumane killing..

Oh, and the fact that Kim Jong UN has an isolated regime and ………drumroll please…nuclear weapons.

His bad hair cut is meaningless compared to his real threat to the world.

A planet named Biden

Meet the planet named BIDEN.. It’s a dwarf and it is from an unlikely region in our own solar system. (Notice how science textbooks pretty much get re-written by the day at this point?) Biden is beyond Pluto—not a planet—and it’s 7 billion miles from earth. And the name?

It’s real name is VP113, hence: A joking name of BIDEN. I am sure the Vice President can use this in his campaign ads should he seek the Democratic nomination in 2016..

Imagine: “Already a planet, why not a president?”

And as ABC news reports, there just HAS to be people jealous that BIDEN got a planet named after him.. (though on those commercials, you can still pay $$$ to have a distant star named after you!)

As someone from Schuylkill County, PA, I’d be remiss not to at least give a post dedicated to a pretty surprisingly fun song called SKOOK STATE OF MIND.

I personally never liked the term ‘skook’ much but it works well in this song..

Matt Freiler, of Deer Lake, is the young funny talent behind the video. It’s gone ‘viral’ in so much as people from Schuylkill County have been watching it .. 

If you are not from this area the video will mean nothing to you…

I think one day it will be interesting to go back and look at the places where scenes were recorded to see what other ‘landmarks’ of this dying area are gone by that point.

LIGHTS OUT: Is this the scariest short film ever made!? I have two thoughts on it.. first off, it shows our attention spans collectively has shrunk rapidly. Comedy is down to 5 seconds.. horror is down to 2 minutes.

BUT.. it also shows that there is creativity in the ranks of younger horror enthusiasts.. people who are tired of the blood and gore of nothingness and into trying to creature something new and fresh. This 2+ minute video, LIGHTS OUT, actually gave me a few jumps.. It was tense and pretty damn amazing. Congrats to David Sandberg for LIGHTS OUT .. an award well deserved.

Animals are leaving Yellowstone..  BUT.. it happened before—in February 2012 the same story of animals fleeing Yellowstone was blasting around the internet.  While common sense and logic should prevail, Yellowstone is always the sleeping giant and a major threat to humanity.. And this video from March 20 posted on YOUTUBE shows bison seemingly running for their lives away from Yellowstone.

That’s creepy.

Even though weird video and rumors online persist, this story from the DAILY MAIL may quell your end times fears: Researchers are now saying that the Yellowstone supervolcano is dormant and may never erupt again! So they say….

LEAVE MY COSMOS ALONE!

This is how ridiculous things are getting: Creationists are demanding EQUAL TIME to balance Neil deGrasse Tyson’s COSMOS. 

They want to be able to scientifically tell the world that we are 6,000 years old and that God tore out Adam’s rib to form a woman.

I’d actually enjoy hearing about what happened to the dinosaurs. I heard competing versions: 1) They didn’t fit on the ark and 2) Noah didn’t get a male and female dino egg, hence the die-off. But until then, I’ll just enjoy the FACTUAL presentation of COSMOS..

I penned up a quick daily doodle for a friend of mine, however that will remain private and is not meant for public disclosure.

Afterwards, out if ideas, I asked my son Ayden to give me a subject to draw for my public daily doodle. He responded that he wanted me to draw him in the scene he was in, eating a strawberry Pop tarts and watching Scooby Doo on an iPad.

I did, but he did not approve, saying “my hair should be flat”…

I had a very long discussion with a friend last night about society’s ills and the dramatic changes that we have seen even in our relatively young lives.. It’s amazing.

We traveled back to 6th grade. I distinctly remember “Sister Monica” and other nuns debating whether they should show my class that cutting edge flick SISTER ACT.

They eventually did but I think fast forwarded their VHS tape past a less than tame part. And today?? SISTER ACT would be a joke ..

Things have grown much more scandalous than Whoopi in a nun’s outfit.. But complaining about changes may put me into the same page as those who warned of the devilish dangers of Elvis’ hips gyrating.

Replace Elvis with Miley Cyrus.

Good news, even the ‘new’ generation was disgusted by her buttchecks flapping in the wind of her BANGERZ tour.

Horrible news from Washington state: The numbers of deaths in the mudslide massacre continues to rise.. 

I was struck this morning when I heard emergency management officials from the area adamantly say that residents knew the threat of mudslides. That’s fine, and most likely factual. But let’s wait until we count all the bodies before we start blaming residents for their own demise..? How about that one..  

One interesting part of the story: A very small 1.1. quake may have actually been a triggering factor for the mudslide.

Uncle Ted in the land of Hatchy Milatchy.. the best of yesterday

You may not have heard of UNCLE TED, but if you were or are from East Pennsylvania you saw him and may have some fond memories..

He is from Wilkes-Barre, PA. He hosted UNCLE TED’S GHOUL SCHOOL from 1974 through 1982.. he also hosted UNCLE TED’S MONSTERMANIA from 1984 through the 1990s—this was the one I remember as a child.

Uncle Ted’s real name was Edwin Raub.. he died in 1998..

He was corny and fun, innocent and charming.. weird but enjoyable.

Finally Raub got the attention he deserved.. he was inducted into the HORROR HOST HALL OF FAME on March 22, 2014..

Well deserved..

There’s an old mine in Pennsylvania where the U.S. processes federal retirements. By hand. On paper. In 2014.

You need to read this story for yourself.. it’s about a federal government office in Boyers, PA, employing about 600 or so people. That isn’t the weird part—though if you’ve ever been to Boyers you may think it is..

The really odd story is this: The office is 230 feet under the ground. Elevator music plays constantly.. It’s not top secret, it’s just ….230 feet under the grown because. And even  more: The old mine’s tunnels *now an office* are filled with 28,000 file cabinets of paper. All of the work done, as a matter of fact, is on paper. All by hand. Nothing technological about this underground cavern of hell..

The Washington POST reports this:

The existence of a mine full of federal paperwork is not well known: Even within the federal workforce, it is often treated as an urban legend, mythic and half-believed­. “That crazy cave,” said Aneesh Chopra, who served as President Obama’s chief technology officer.

Mythic.. unbelievable. But real. And filled with 28,000 FILE CABINETS OF PAPER.

Get this ONE: 

The staff working in the mine has increased by at least 200 people in the past five years. And the cost of processing each claim has increased from $82 to $108, as total spending on the retirement system reached $55.8 million.

Are you beyond shocked yet?

It gets better.. From the aspect of human interaction, this is the amazing part: These people who work here seem to be miserable and filled with darkness. During the cold winter time, they don’t actually see light. They go to work in the dark, go 200+ feet under the ground, and go home in the dark.. the POST points out, 

So there is a pizza guy, with a security clearance, who arrives every day at 11:30 a.m. Another vendor, Randy Armagost, trucks in hot lunches and an assortment of at least four deep-fried items every day.

“People are crabby. They’re miserable. I mean, you can’t blame them. They never see any sunlight,” Armagost said. “I’m only down there for 2 ½ hours a day, and I can’t stand it.”

Even the pizza guy hates it.

Just imagine if this was your workplace: 

For 600 federal workers, it is.

For any Schuylkill Countians out there, this is a blast from the past.. The Schuylkill Mall’s TV ad from the 1990s.. all of these stars except a few are gone.. and the mall is almost vacant.. Sad how the mighty mall on the hill has fallen.

(Keep in mind that when this ad was made, around 1995, the mall had already suffered a mini-exodus of stores. But nothing like what has happened since 2008)
