A pair of moderate earthquakes shook northwest Oklahoma late Wednesday night, part of the latest swarm of Sooner State temblors since Wednesday morning. A 4.7-magnitude tremor was followed 30 seconds later by another 4.8-magnitude quake centered in a sparsely populated area about 20 miles northwest of Fairview, Oklahoma, about 97 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. The quakes struck at depths of 2.1 and 3.7 miles below the surface.

THE GREAT SHAKING STATE OF OKLAHOMA
And it’s not stopping. The quakes in the state have been making news lately, especially within the last few days.
And now just this morning, New Years day, another shake has hit the state. This one a 4.2..
According the U.S. Geological Survey’s website, the quake happened at 5:39 a.m. in an area 3 miles northeast of Edmond and 16 miles north-northeast of Oklahoma City.
There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
There used to be a few dozen quakes in the state prior to 2012. After fracking took hold, there have been 800 in 2015. 800..
800..
And surely more in 2016 to go.
Not that fracking would EVER do such things…. (Remember, at one time when those against fracking said earthquakes would be a danger, they were called kooks and loons.) Who’s kooky now.

NASA Gives 99-Percent Probability Of 5.0 Earthquake In LA
CBS reports:
“JPL experts predict a possible 5.0 magnitude quake in Los Angeles, but say it very well could be stronger. JPL geophysicist Dr. Andrea Donnellan, along with seven other scientists, has been using radar and GPS to measure Southern California’s chances for a sizable earthquake, and has made a sobering hypothesis about another big one.

THE SAN RAMON VALLEY SHAKING
Earthquakes abound.. With the world constantly awaiting the ‘big one’ somewhere next — we have had big ones before and we will again–there are rumblings from California. The left coast is shaking. As SFGATE report: An earthquake swarm continues to shake the San Ramon Valley with almost 200 temblors rippling through the region through Monday afternoon, when a 2.8 quake struck at 4:02 p.m followed…

TSUNAMI IMPACT FELT
The first tsunami waves triggered by a massive 8.3 earthquake have reached Chilean shores, flooding the streets and forcing people to seek shelter on higher ground. Authorities have kept a high alert level in place for most of the coastline.
Chile’s coastal city of Coquimbo has been hit by waves measuring up to 4.5 meters above normal sea level, Reuters reported citing the country’s navy..

ESTIMATED TIMES OF ARRIVAL -ETA- OF THE INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE FOR PLACES WITHIN THREATENED REGIONS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

A strong magnitude 6.9 earthquake has struck in the open waters of the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge; the quake struck within the last 30 minutes
The NATIONAL TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER says this:
"A destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data. However, there is the small possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts located usually no more than a hundred kilometers from the earthquake epicenter."

Shake at the witching hour: San Fran quake!
A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the northern San Francisco Bay area early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Twitter lit up with images of people’s wine collections broken on kitchen floors, but there does not appear to be much more damages than that.. Extensive kitchen appliances hit, but buildings remain intact—compared to what could have been, the Napa valley (wine central) can count itself lucky.
No reports of injuries…
Some power outages.
But lots of jittery people being woken up at the witching hour. 3:20am on the left coast.
And perhaps a lesson and reminder of fright to come. There is always the chance of a big quake hitting. With such fault tension lately, the pressure needs to release somewhere..

USGS Scientist Says Alaska, New Zealand Quakes Might Be Linked
With massive quakes striking off the Alaskan and New Zealand coast Monday, a scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey said he is weighing the possibilities that the two might be connected.
I don’t know if this is a first or not, but quite some time many ‘experts’ have said that earthquakes do not have a rhyme or reason and are not connected.. others like Stan Deyo have been able to successfully predict earthquakes for years.. Those ‘tin foil’ hat wearers have been criticized by the science community at large for some time..
But now someone from the USGS is agreeable to the premise that two quakes on the same day may be connected—and when tension starts on one side of the ring of fire, a burst may occur on the other.
