Mid Winter storms.. bizarre mid-winter storms

This is mid winter (or it is supposed to be), but climate did not get the memo. The NWS is watching not 1 but 2 lows that have hurricane force winds in the NORTH ATLANTIC..

And a storm developing off the British Isles..

How many freak storms will we get until we realize something is ‘up’ .. ?

But remember. Earth changes are NOT happening. Tell yourself that one a few times and try not to laugh.

Just when you thought it was Armageddon, someone comes around and ruins it for you

Just when you thought it was Armageddon, someone comes around and ruins it for you

Call them the anti Debbie Downers.. a group has released findings that they say conclusively shows natural disasters are at a 10-year-low. But South Carolina flooding? But California drought? But.. But … The executive summary from AON said that 2014 was a below average year for catastrophe.. That doesn’t mean awful stuff did not happen, but on a pure number, it was less than other years when…

Water wars coming. The next crime wave is predicted

I recall a documentary I saw back in the late 1990s, it was some sort of bad TV special--bad in acting and producing--that predicted what the next fifty or so years of life may be like. Some talked about Nostrodamus, others just predicted based off of scientific research. One particular thing stuck in my mind: The possibility of 'waters wars,' with shortages and droughts people would be forced to fight and become adversaries just for a drop of liquid.

Massive hurricanes used to strike New England. Now scientists are worried that will happen again

Monster hurricanes once plagued New England.. new predictions today that the history of horror may repeat itself.. While Europe was going through the Middle Ages, America’s East Coast was being pummeled by hurricanes at least as intense as Katrina every 40 years or so.. Such storms would be catastrophic if they hit the northeast U.S. today, according to lead author Jeff Donnelly of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution…

Is this simply a plant of a story to mentally prep us for something they know is coming?

Here is a LIVE Youtube stream of the Barðarbunga  volcano in Iceland.. For those who don’t know, an eruption of it may have begun..  Although the latest update from the scene has some wondering if it really has..The LIVESCIENCE report says that there appears to be no indication of volcanic activity..

It’s worth noting, mainly for this: A few days back, there were fears of an ‘explosive’ volcanic eruption.. earthquakes rocked the volcano.. Also this today: The BBC reported a ‘red alert’ was issued by Iceland—and there are lots of concerns that air travel will be highly hit..

Warning sign on the road to the Bardarbunga volcano (20 August)

Sadly, as this event occurs, the one problem that people may have: Pronouncing the name of the Volcano. Luckily SLATE thought about that a few days ago too, and gave us a link to another source on the way you should say the word..

We’ll just stick to say the big Iceland volcano. That is safe..

This is a giant developing crack in the ground in the Costa de Hermosillo in Mexico. But how did it get here?

My local fishwrapper actually informed me of something

I didn’t pay much attention to world events yesterday, so when I actually read the pages of my local newspaper today, I was informed of something monumentally big that I don’t think too many news networks even covered: A shallow 6.1 earthquake in China has killed almost 400.. 1800 injured.. 12,000 homes have been destroyed.

And now, as though God didn’t do enough, torrential rains are slowing down relief efforts, and probably creating a soggy hell on earth for all hit by the earth event..

The biggest impact was in the city of Zhaotong .. Roads and bridges are out.. the military has been sent in.. As more people are being pulled from rubble, it’s expected to have an increased injury and death toll.. once the rains allow rescue workers to get to them, that is..

Until then.. dramatic photos are being taken and published for the world to see.. The one that most affected me was a Chinese soldier rushing a baby to safety.. But how many innocent others are gone..?

Waking to quaking..

There is fear over a Washington style landslide in Wyoming (just South of Yellowstone no less) .. Jackson Wyoming Council has declared a state of emergency and adopted a disaster declaration due to concerns that a hill could collapse into the city.. According to an incident command official: The ground is moving, not on the surface, but 40  to 50 feet down.. And don’t forget this: Yellowstone is still a little shaky, as the reported yesterday..

Some weird booms and noises were heard along the West Coast, sparking fears of a quake. Experts are now saying, though, that the mysterious rumbling in Orange County California was not a quake.  Instead it was a supersonic Navy flight.. They say. But what is unsaid: There is a huge amount of fear right now in California that a long overdue quake can happen soon..

And this: Mystery explosions and loud bangs in the UK..

Watching those quakes with a few shakes

Past 24 hours..There have been two 4.0+ earthquakes in Oklahoma…… and a 3.1 earthquake along the New Madrid..

This after a weekend series of quakes in Oklahoma..

Something below is moving..

It's a self selfie world

California.. They have a beautiful state and, besides Hollywood, the area is filled with good people. And they are being told that up to 18,000 of them could die if a big one hit..

The UK DAILY MAIL points out, in our selfie culture, it’s sort of what everyone did after the series of weekend quakes: Take selfies with the overturned materials behind them.. They didn’t do THAT in 1906! OR … did they? My God.. I think they did!?

After I read the DAILY MAIL piece about the selfie culture, I found so many photos from the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake in which people were posing in front of rubble.. ruins.. and remnants. I think it’s because, in a sense, the selfie is just a piece of human nature.

It documents the fact that “you were there” .. that you saw what you saw, and for the record, you lived through it.. Just as those who wore those cloaks and vestments of the 1900s did as they sternly posed for the camera with debris and death behind them, we do the same now.. Perhaps nothing has really changed. Maybe nothing has ever been the same.. But the selfie has always been there.

Even honest Abe loved to get his photo taken. I bet central bank notes that he would have also had an INSTAGRAM to compete with Justin Bieber.

And that soldiers would have taken selfies on the battlefield at Gettysburg..

Then again, as we see here, sometimes the selfie gets tasteless.. the Arizona Wildcats lost and the streets went wild, with students ‘rioting’ over the pointless nonsense that is called college sports. And selfies were all the rage, along with the actual ‘rage’ over nothing in the streets..

When Oklahoma is crackin' stop your frackin'

Seriously.. anyone getting even a wee bit concerned over what our natural gas extraction may be doing to the planet in the long run? Or even short run? Like a 24-hour short run?

AP reporting this startling information Saturday night:

The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded 14 earthquakes in Oklahoma since about 9:30 p.m. Friday, the largest being a magnitude 4.0.

The 4.0 magnitude quake was recorded at 10:05 p.m. Friday about seven miles south of Langston. Three other quakes of magnitude 2.9, 3.0 and 3.3 were recorded Saturday afternoon in the Medford area.

The other quakes ranged from magnitude 2.4 to 2.9.

The energy industry is obviously denying that their fracking and gas extractions have anything to do with the uptick of quakes—but really, what else could they possibly say? Just admit it?

But are we fracked or just fracking? Take a quick gander at the comments section on this local Oklahoma news station’s story about the shaking in Oklahoma..  Some calling the frackster-hucksters ‘tree huggers’ while others are decrying gas companies. Everything is political these days. Even earthquakes.

As usual, as I do, follow DUTCH SINSE if you want some of the best up to the minute news and analysis on earthquakes around the planet.. And yes, he is pretty sure it has something to do with fracking, too.. Read more on there here..
