Alexa Ray Joel on lots of stuff

I like Alexa Ray Joel—not as much as a friend who harbors a long standing crush on her.. But I find her talented like her dad. The problem is she doesn’t have the same attitude that tells the world to go to hell.

Here’s info on an interviewwith her in which she opened up about bullying and plastic surgery.. She appears to have never gotten over when Perez Hilton labeled her a slut at the age of 19..

Google Official Blog: What the ...?

Amazing how all of these tech companies suddenly DON’T know what we are doing online when they bragged for years that they knew everything..

Everyone wants to.. Break out of the PRISM they suddenly find themselves in…

President Obama’s Dragnet - NYTimes.com

Wow.. This is a MUST read from the NEW YORK TIMES..

And this was written BEFORE we found out that the FBI and the NSA tap directly into severs of nine top net companies getting just about everything that everybody does online..

Wow..

President Obama’s Dragnet - NYTimes.com

NSA has direct access to tech giants' systems for user data, secret files reveal

The UK GUARDIAN reporting continues.. This new amazing story is rocking the rest of the world that wasn’t rocked by the Verizon story this morning…

NSA has direct access to tech giants' systems for user data, secret files reveal

Matt Drudge was right

Interesting story.. And he was right, regardless of your opinion on him. He called this one..

Every era of news reporting has a pioneer.. And often they are flawed, often we’re in awe.. but in the end they are human.

Reporters 15 years ago had disdain for Drudge. They may have more now that he turned out to be spot on..

Matt Drudge was right

Iraqi Birth Defects Worse than Hiroshima

There are some pretty tough images to see in this story.. But we need to perhaps at least be aware of the issue. If this claim is true, then we are seeing horror before our eyes taking place.

Read the story at your own risk..

No images re-printed on here on purpose..

Iraqi Birth Defects Worse than Hiroshima

YES. We hear you. And you hear us.

The world of telecommunications was rocked today when the UK GUARDIAN reported that a FISA court ordered Verizon to provide records of calls of millions of Americans on an ongoing, daily basis. And now the  Obama Administration is defending the program as ‘critical’ for safety and the fight against terrorism..

Another report on CNN attempts to break down  what exactly the Verizon/FISA/NSA/FBI/Patriot Act issue means for you.. the report concludes that the government cannot hear what you are saying.. At least we think that according to the document released today in the GUARDIAN. We don’t know what other documents exist that have not been leaked…

Lots of people are angry. Some, including Senator Lindsay Graham, assert that they are fine with it because they didn’t do anything wrong…

But the far-reaching program appears to presume someone is doing something wrong.. Constitutional questions are involved.. privacy questions are involved.. Lots of big issues are at stake. This is important, and another issue of government surveillance that hits directly into every home across the United States.

With the news of the day *(everyday)* this is how I now feel..

Phone Sex, Banks & Google for Emails: The NSA Spying Is Bigger Than Verizon - Elspeth Reeve - The Atlantic Wire

Phone Sex, Banks & Google for Emails: The NSA Spying Is Bigger Than Verizon - Elspeth Reeve - The Atlantic Wire

Let's answer Al Gore's question

He asked this:

In the digital era, privacy must be a priority. Is it just me, or is secret blanket surveillance obscenely outrageous?

I ask the same. Is it?

Well.. yes I guess you can hear us now.

shortformblog:

According to this document obtained by The Guardian, the federal government, through a court order granted to the National Security Agency, is using the Patriot Act to collect the phone records of millions of Verizon users over a three-month period. Awesome. Read the full document here. It’s like the AP thing, except extended to everyone else.

The court order doesn’t allow the NSA to collect any information whatsoever on the contents of phone calls, or even to obtain any names or addresses of customers. What’s covered instead is known as “metadata”: the phone number of every caller and recipient; the unique serial number of the phones involved; the time and duration of each phone call; and potentially the location of each of the participants when the call happened. All of this information is being collected on millions of calls every day – every conversation taking place within the US, or between the US and a foreign country is collected.

Verizon order: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

guardian:

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America’s largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.

For weeks (actually months) .. wait. .. actually years, my wife has been screaming at me to wash the layers of dead insects off of my car, or at least just take a hose to it. Apparently, last night, Ayden got so convinced that his mommy was right that he decided to wash the car himself. First time in years.. and maybe the last time unless he keeps trying.

Oh, and yes, that is a ‘miracle hose’ and it does in fact work as it does on TV..

Pretty sure this won’t happen again.. I threw some money down on a desk in front of co-workers and a nickel landed on its side, as you can see. Those who saw it are witnesses and can attest to the fact that the photo wasn’t a set up.

For a moment I felt like Dick York from the TWILIGHT ZONE episode where something similar occurs. As for my fate, though, I wasn’t able to hear voices from people walking by me on streets and I could not read anyone’s mind. Which may be fine, since York’s circumstances ended badly in the show—as did most people’s..

So the one day a cookout is planned is also the day when violent thunderstorms are set to strike after 11am

Looks like food will have to be cooked early and preserved in aluminum foil..

I walked into my local convenience store this morning and caught the aftermath of two workers trying to dry out their lottery ticket by microwaving it. They thought the microwave would thoroughly dry the paper, but did not realize that it would set it on fire as well..

A must read..

Dying girl, 10, spurs fight over lung transplant fairness

The wired future.. I will make my prediction for the record.

Not to be outdone by Google, APPLE is now hinting that you will soon be able to wear their technology.. which propels me to re-re-re-state my prediction from ten years back concerning wearable devices. At some point in our near future we will have technology implanted. Your phone will be your hand. Your brain will be wired to the Net.
Unless that big solar flares gets us all..

So yes, that means if the world doesn’t end, you’ll be on Tumblr will be literally in your fingertips. But do you really want Yahoo to be that close to you?

Preliminary tests indicate ricin was found in letters sent to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, New York Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said.

By now you may have heard of those persistent rumors of a ‘tsunami’ in the Atlantic resulting from solar activity. Here is the video of Dr. Simon Atkins that started it all..

For the record, here is his bio

Parenting 101: Don’t do this. Ever.. Two parents are facing chargesfor a choice to put their 10-year-old daughter in a dog cage—and then driving through the Pennsylvania turnpike. They are now facing charges for endangering a minor..

If you read the the snews a few days back, you’ll remember the story and controversy of whether the Pope exorcised a demon from a man from Mexico.. The Vatican said no. Other priests said yes. Now the man has weighed in..It turns out that the man named ‘Angel V’ is 43, from Mexico, and claims to be possessed by demons.. Could he be wrong, too?

Changing times..

40% of moms are now the family breadwinners..

Don’t think for a second that it means women are making more.. Women are still underpaid when compared to men in certain positions. Equal pay remains an issue..

This story also means everyone is making less, fewer have pensions, only some have 401Ks, and finally, unemployment has hit construction and manufacturing—industries that primarily have affected men. I think this is less a good thing and more a sign of bad economic times. They say the Great Recession is over. If that’s true, it’s certainly a long time to recede..

The United States of disaster

The disastrous states of America.. a new study releases the list of the ten most dangerous states to live in when considering where natural disasters hit..

Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, New York, Oklahoma, California.. and Texas ..

Sadly some of those states are some of the poorer states in our union. How unfair Mother Nature can often be..

Gooey Louie

The FBI investigated LOUIE LOUIE lyrics for two years in the 1960s.. and it all started because of a Florida teenager’s letter to Robert Kennedy stating that the lyrics were obscene..

The teacher got the lyrics wrong. The FBI never questioned the maker of the song to see what the actual words of the song were. So how much money did the FBI super snoopers spend on investigating this one way back in 1964?

Smoke em while you got em: Potentially lethal gamma-ray burst from star WR 104 could reach earth

This is a serious news story. It’s gone mainstream.. WR 104, a ‘Wolf-Rayet star’ about 8,000 light years away, could go supernova any day now.. Really, ANY DAY NOW. And if it does, rays from the explosion deep in space could actually reach our our little blue dot known as earth.

As FOX news reports:

"We could see it go supernova anywhere from tomorrow to 500,000 years from now," astronomer Grant Hill told Forbes"For all intents and purposes, the gamma-ray burst and optical photons from the supernova would arrive simultaneously."

A quarter of our atmospheric ozone could be wiped away..?

Disruptions: At Odds Over Privacy Challenges of Wearable Computing

Nick Bilton, who wrote this article for the NY TIMES, presents quite a stark question: What do you do at a party when someone you are talking to is wearing Google Glass? Stare at the all seeing camera, or just leave the room?

I wonder what will happen with the Google Glass future. We have accepted most of the internet’s privacy defects. We are seemingly ok with Google snapping photos of our houses .. we appear alright that every movement we make online is snapped, cataloged, and often given over to government entities for ‘national security’ reasons.. But Google Glass? A contraption that will snap your life in images? One that will also see everything you do.. and if you can see it, Google can see it? … creepy. With a capital C.

But this is the future. Where privacy isn’t existent.

It once was said that, on any given Street Corner, USA, you did not possess any true privacy. No presumption. But what about that dark corner in a bar room late on a Friday night… and someone wearing Google Glass snaps your image? Or .. in your own home .. or.. anywhere.

I have had some major problems with friends who send me “People of Walmart” jokes. Do I chuckle at the first image or two I glance at? I did. I do.. But I often send back a reply telling them to take me off of their list of folks who get these ‘jokes.’ After all, what is it that is funny about them? The odd images of people shopping late at the store…. or the souls of those who mock and degrade them..? We are just fine with people snapping photos of other people, posting them online, just to make light of their either mental or physical conditions? I am not ok with it. I never liked the People of Walmart forwards, still don’t like them… and sadly… I’m outnumbered.

You know why? Because we are going to be entering the new phase of life.. the GOOGLE GLASS phenom.

Get ready..You may be recorded .. all of them time. Without knowing it.

And what happens when People of Walmart turns into the next ‘joke’ …? What happens when your privacy has been compromised?

We may have no presumption of privacy in public places. But for God sakes, don’t we at least have a presumption that other humans will be thoughtful? Other humans .. .being thoughtful? Nah. They will simply just forward the next best joke, making light about someone else..

We are turning into a very different society than we once were..

Researchers hurt at Ibaraki nuclear facility

Memorial Day weekend continues. Three days for many, but the pain that occurred to create this holiday is purely evident.
It all began as a celebration of those who perished during the Civil War.. Perhaps just too many other wars had taken place by the time it was expanded to dedicate a day to all lives lost during warfare.. We celebrate with barbeques and picnics, family outings and trips.. but pause for a moment and hear the distsant and faint sound of canon fire, musket fire, and gunfire from the past. And realize that even today wars are continuing (for better or worse) that will lead many more names and lost lives to be cherished for Memorial Days to come..

If anyone saw the news yesterday you most likely witnessed at least snippets of the video of the machete/hatchet attack in London.. It was considered to be a terrorist attack, two men hit a young British soldier with the car and began to hack and attack him, almost behead him and let him die in the street..

The entire affair was bizarre including the fact that it’s a police 30 minutes to get to the scene, the gun of the attacker supposedly blowing up in his hand, and throngs of people simply standing around aimlessly watching the entire thing happen.. It even appeared that some of the people in the background were doing nothing to stop an attacker stop the perpetrator but instead simply filming the entire event and watching as the body lay bleeding in the street..

I don’t know what to make of the crowd’s reaction to this event.. Obviously the video did not show the actual attack and we only see the aftermath, but there appeared to be no one ready to challenge the two attackers.. I just don’t know what to make of this..

Video: Elderly lady reunited with her dog after Oklahoma tornado

Among so much devastation from the horrendous mile-wide tornado that has ripped through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore, there is, at least, some good news as an elderly lady and her dog have survived the storm.

Read more: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/350539

Finally good news

The Moore OK update

So much heartache.. so much disaster. The latest is in Oklahoma, as you may have been seeing if you followed Earth Informer yesterday and other sources as well. Thelatest reports lament 91 dead so far—so many were children from elementary schools that were flattened by this tornado. Winds were 200 miles or more. The spread was over a mile.. And it was one of the biggest tornadoes in history.. The massive path of destruction is now evident..
KFOR is reporting the latest from the ground..
At least 91 counted dead at this point..
A desperate search for survivors ongoing.. But time is running out fast.
Rubble..

A school destroyed..
Chaos..
Life in tornado alley..

When comedy is too quick. Ever hear the comment ‘too soon’ after someone tells a joke? Comedian Lizz Winstead tweeted something yesterday after the tornado saying'This tornado is in Oklahoma so clearly it has been ordered to only target conservatives'.. this was before the bodies of dead children were taken from the elementary school.. this was before the death toll rose to at least 91.. She was forced to Tweet an apology three hours later..

Monday, May 20, 2013

There are just no words to describe the horror that we saw today with this massive tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

I just cannot think of words at all.

This is horrendous

The AP is now broadcasting this to the world: KFOR-TV reports that up to 24 children are believed dead at the Plaza Towers Elementary School and that it has turned into a search and recovery effort

This is a worst case scenario ..
This brutal tornado has now etched itself into the annals of weather history… And with its short presence in Moore Oklahoma it also stole the lives of so many..

Block after block is only debris. Winds cracked and demolished all in its path.. So many lives tonight now undone. So many people hurt. So many killed.

This is terrible and heartbreaking news… May God ease their suffering immediately and keep them.. If he’s there..

Today's main event: The Rumblr on Tumblr

There’s a rumblr on Tumblr..the new billion dollar man is coming to us from the tech world. Yahoo! is shelling out over $1 bil for the blogging service Tumblr.

Some users are concerned.. After all, it seems anything corporate Yahoo! gets its hands on fails or gets forgotten..

Also interesting, David Karp, the founder of Tumblr who dropped out of high school and made the blog service in his mom’s New York City apartment, said he wouldn’t sell as recent as a month ago. But money talked. Apparently talked very loud..

Get out while the gettin’s good, perhaps?

Either way, Karp is about to become the tycoon of the age.

The first of only a few since last century. Oh, and by the way, it was last century that Yahoo! bought another blogging service: Geocities. That failed too. And about two years ago, Yahoo! completely deleted all Geocities sites from its archives and database… leaving users to frantically try to save years of infancy of the internet.

So if Tumblr users think Yahoo! will care about providing a platform for independent thought to flourish and creative activity to occur, doubt that one..Big time.
