YouTube Will Completely Remove Videos Of Creators Who Don’t Sign Its Red Subscription Deal

Josh Constine on TECHDIRT reporting,

YouTube made its top video creators an offer they literally couldn’t refuse, or they’d have their content disappear. Today YouTube confirmed that any “partner” creator who earns a cut of ad revenue but doesn’t agree to sign its revenue share deal for its new YouTube Red $9.99 ad-free subscription will have their videos hidden from public view on both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. That includes videos by popular comedians, musicians, game commentators, and DIY instructors, though not the average person that uploads clips.

It’s a tough pill to swallow that makes YouTube look like a bully. Though turning existing fans into paid subscribers instead of free viewers could earn creators more than the ad revenue, forcing them into the deal seems heavy-handed.

Reaction is mixed.
Google is being slammed.

But the money is good.

Google 'makes people think they are smarter than they are'

Makes sense.. I call it Google muscles but I also contend that a search engine university would be a far better way of learning than the traditional university system. One day I’ll explain that theory further , especially if I get an investor ;)

The wired brain of tomorrow is coming sooner than you think

Google may be planning something big for your brain! A microchip to heal the world!? I have said many times, for better or worse, that this is the future: The phone will trend to implantable devices.

We will become one with the internet, and become it, giving it life.. we will also have the ability to search our body for the problems… if we are sick, we can perform a search and find the ailment. Eventually we will be able to print new organs.

This is all coming faster than expected–as outlandish as it sounds, it really is not science fiction.

The true question: Will the rich keep the spoils for themselves or allow some goodness to spill out? Or will human beings, for the most part, ruin the goodness that all of this will bring by perverted it with power, greed, gluttony, and murder?

What you really Googled in 2014

Judging from what we searched for, 2014 was a very depressing and scary year..

That or the internet generation has simply grown up..

Google has reportedly solved the problem tonight, but but when a weird image kept appearing on every search result today, it became a bit freaky..

Early today, people were wondering if Google was hacked to show a Russian car crash..  A number of searches, including ‘iPad air,’ were coming up with the strange image.. Reports actually came in from all across the planet Earth of the problem—but the oddity seemingly was that some people in the same building could not replicate what their co-workers were finding, as the Washington POST reported today..

While the glitch may be itched, there’s not much more to find out about it.. Hacked or not.. it was bizarre..

Google to collect data to create a full picture of what a healthy human being is

The future is always now.. this was eventual, as anything technological really is at this point.

Google is trying to go deep inside the human body.. it’s going to give guidance on what a ‘healthy’ human is..

This:

The study may, for instance, reveal a biomarker that helps some people break down fatty foods efficiently, helping them live a long time without high cholesterol and heart disease. Others may lack this trait and succumb to early heart attacks. Once Baseline has identified the biomarker, researchers could check if other people lack it and help them modify their behavior or develop a new treatment to help them break down fatty foods better, Dr. Conrad said.

Sounds fine, dandy, healthy, and Googly. But what else is there behind that scene..

Imagine a future, where transhumanism is in full supply, and you get the sniffles.. then a sore throat.. then.. Google it! Search your body deep to get an answer.. let a computer scan through your organs, get your vitals, and spit back to what of the 1000s of named diseases you actually have. That would be an amazing future.

But of course with each passage of wonderful technology comes the ability to use it for awful things.

But Google won’t be evil. Right?

How Facebook Knows What Television Show You're Watching Right Now

A little creepy..

Facebook also will allow you to instantly post—or post for you —the song you are listening to right or the television show..

And as creepy and privacy-invasive as this is, expect it to be utilized with great ferocity by Facebook users..

It’s either the beginning of big time invasion of privacy or it’s just another example of how much we share, and in this case overshare.

But don’t kid yourself.. it’s not new technology.. Facebook listening to you in 2014 is nothing inventive.  Way back last decade in 2006, Google made some headlines because it was finalizing its plans to listen to you through your computer.

Also let’s not forget how often the power to hear you through your device has been abused. In 2010, school children in Philadelphia were being watched through their school issued laptops by officials. You know.. for ‘inappropriate behavior.  Also in 2012, then CIA chief (before the sex scandal) David Petraus said that the government will listen to us, the citizenry, through our dishwashers.

So there you have it.. the slippery slope was already traveled .. not Facebook is simply filling the potholes, making it become ‘trendy’ and using Beyonce’s music as a selling point to sell your information to the world. At a very low cost. You’ll do it for free..

Welcome to the cloud. The very overshared and eavesdropped cloud..

Inside Google HQ: What does the future hold for the company whose visionary plans include implanting a chip in our brains?

Any of my friends will tell you I thought this was going to happen—and I figured they’d actually implant a ‘phone’ or the internet in some way in our hands to replace the typical cell phone. Friends and family who thought I was crazy can now see: They want to create a transhuman.

Do you hear me now?

When the Google stops the doodle

This from CNN:

Google and related services were inaccessible to some users this morning, prompting confusion and consternation across the Web.

Reports of outages began about 9:30 a.m. ET and quickly spread on Twitter, with users asking if the problem was affecting others as well.

Among the services affected were Gmail, Google Plus, Google Drive and YouTube. According to anecdotal reports, the outages appeared to be most prevalent among users in the Southeastern United States.

Google did not immediately comment on the problem.

Apparently the outages prove Google just hired someone from Tumblr. I jest!
But..
Thank God it’s summer. If it was a school year kids would be flunking tests from sea to shining sea this morning!

Anyone waking up and performing their first Google search of the day will be greeted by a new Doodle from the company, something they have made famous over the past few years: Remembered today on the Google Doodle is the 66th anniversary of the Roswell UFO crash.

I myself played with the interactive Google doodle a bit too long, trying to figure out how to help the little E.T. find his spaceship back home..

If you are patient and stay with it long enough, you actually end the little game with a “Google Daily Record” headline saying a flying saucer was spotted over Roswell, indicating that your gaming has been successful and the alien has found his way back to space..

'Quit Google, Facebook' suggests tech expert as surveillance scandal deepens

StartPage.com is a good Google alternative. The front porch with a cold beer is better than Facebook. Except all your neighbors will probably still be on Facebook..
