Google 'makes people think they are smarter than they are'

Makes sense.. I call it Google muscles but I also contend that a search engine university would be a far better way of learning than the traditional university system. One day I’ll explain that theory further , especially if I get an investor ;)

Facebook accused of tracking all users even if they delete accounts, ask never to be followed

…..even if you delete your account. I said yesterday that privacy is dead. This is the very thing privacy activists warned of a decade ago and the world laughed. And joined the Matrix, forever.

Plugging a 1986 Mac Plus into the modern Web

p>I love this article. . I tried the same myself with a 1997 HP.. I was surprised how well it worked but how awfully slow it was.. though there’s also a big difference between 97 and 86..

Obsessing over the perfect social media post is ruining your life, study says

We are a social media obsessed nation. World. ETC.

And now there is scientific evidence that maybe all of this is ruining our life..

The money quote:

About 58% of people surveyed said “posting the perfect picture has prevented them from enjoying life experiences.” Sound familiar? Trying to get that perfect concert photo, or just the right sunset pic sometimes interferes with enjoying the experience itself.

I know a few folks who do this.. I will keep them nameless.. But there’s one intriguing facet of 20/20 vision on this. Even though I roll my eyes at a few people I know and love when they insist on getting the perfect picture, I do, years later, love going back and seeing that perfect picture existing.

Ahh.. the yin and yang of life..

It’s a high tangled web.. I’d rather not get involved or I’ll quit too.

More here.. http://www.refinery29.com/2015/03/83204/taylor-swift-tumblr-bully

Incidentally back in the summer of 2010, I also quit Tumblr after a band of neo Nazis started to hate me after posting a historic quote about Adolf hitler.. I soon reentered the fray.. haven’t quit since. but u always could. .

MySpace CEO Tim Vanderhook told the Wall Street Journal that the site still draws 50 million visitors a month. That’s a massive 575% leap over last year’s traffic.

Why?
THROWBACK THURSDAY..

And what better place to do a throwback Thursday than a throwback website to the early days of social networking..?

Nostalgia is en vogue.. As we all collectively age, a whole new generation is getting even more nostalgic for times that are not even that long gone.

And that’s MYSPACE’s angle and success mechanism to getting a 500% increase in click traffic..

Now for all of you out there who haven’t logged in to MYSPACE for a few years, good luck remembering your password.

Just for fun, I logged into AOL IM tonight..

It was like an immediate blast from the past! The noises.. the messages.. the away messages. Just brought my back to a simpler time.

Remember those days? You’d post the away messages featuring some song lyric that symbolized your mood.. others would ponder its meaning.. you’d slam that ‘door shut’ noise when you offline.. how many fights between couples ended with that AOL noise? And the AOL chatrooms? My God.. those bizarre and weird chat rooms, making friends with people who you’d never see..

I actually made a few real friends on AOL believe it or not.. some are actually now “Facebook” friends.. So that’s the real internet now, right?

One shocking thing I noticed tonight: People are still on AOL, including MDrudge, who I think is the actual Matt Drudge. He messaged me once on there years ago a night before he was going to appear on CSPAN. He confirmed the air date .. I think I may have framed the conversation screen shot.

I also thought back to my original internet exploration.. besides that ridiculous ICQ program, I frequented the world of CHAT1.COM .. check that website, it still exists.. but the chat portion has some error that forever will stricken it from the net..

The good old days. Dial up—you could unplug yourself for a while when you were done online..

Now we are always connected everywhere. Then we chose when to be, and decided what others would hear.

Which time was easier? Which would you prefer?

The world of the net has changed.

I just wish those old AOL sound files would still be used somewhere ..

Kids reacting to old computers..

This is the current generation gap.. the ‘old folks’ who used the mainframes.. the new kids who use the cloud..

It’s actually quite fun to have lived through the evolution of computers from the floppy disks of THE OREGON TRAIL to the new age of apps on demand..

Everything has changed.

And as for homework before the internet? I suffered that age for most of my schooling… And it was rough.

Why Facebook wants to be more like Twitter

Facebook is sweating, or it seems.. Apparently the intrusion of Moms and Grandmoms on the social media platform, spreading photos of their dogs and meals, has caused a revolt: Teens are abandoned Facebook to Tweet. Hence, Zuckerberg is becoming more like Twitter..

I don’t know if it will work—it may be too late to stop the bleeding.

Once a platform becomes uncool, kids leave it. That’s why JC Pennys and Sears are doing so awful…

If you want to see the Internet(s) in its infancy, here you go

Look no further than Geocities.. This website captures some of the classics..

I myself had a few Geoshitties sites..

It was the original Myspace.. the original blogger..the original Facebook.. it predated Tumblr. The divorced dads and Jeep lovers from the 1990s paved the way for the personal blogs and opinionated sites of today.

God bless Geocities, and the pavers of the internet superhighway.

But Yahoo! shut down Geocities.
And now Yahoo! owns Tumblr…

Hmmm….

Gawker: Police Seize Woman's Camera After She Films Them Fatally Beating a Man

shortformblog:

A spokesperson for the Kern County Sheriff’s Department says that Bakersfield Police Department officers had a warrant for both phones they confiscated last week. Law enforcement officials apparently plan to continue holding the phones, as part of the investigation into Silva’s death, and all of the officers involved have returned to full duty.

Are things just seemingly getting out of hand everywhere or can we blame this on the Internet that we now know so much..?

You're as old as you feel.. right?

And the new generation feels a lot older than their parents at the same age!
Really..
Dutch researchers are telling us something that maybe we all had a little hunch about for a while: Kids these days are obese, unhealthy, have high blood pressure, and are fixated on computer screens. While the best of the best bloggers on TV are thin and svelte, it appears that, if the Dutch study is correct and believable, then the majority of the youth these days are really about 15 years older healthwise..

The internet will provide the alternative to the government media complex that controls the news and most political propaganda. This is why it’s essential that the Internet remains free of government regulation.
