Numb to the victims

Death happens every day.. mass death occurs. But we should be used to it or accept it—however do accept it often.

I am struck by the reaction of the world and media to the missing flight 370. We are facing the possibility that the 239 passengers and crew faced an overwhelmingly horrific death—the way they expired may be viewed different depending on which viewpoint you have as far as what happened to the flight itself. But by this point, it would seem obvious that there’s no life from within that plane.

And we are numb to it.
Numb in the sense that we aren’t talking about the lives aboard.. we aren’t speaking of the beautiful children who faced an awful early departure from this realm.. we aren’t talking about the wives and husbands, moms and dads, employees and employers.. The stories of all 239 people have seemingly vanished as much as their flight itself. Gone for good into the memory hole.. Never to be spoken about again.

A mass death occurred in some way, most likely..But their lives don’t seem to matter. They’re just the back story to the Malaysian mystery.

The people who seem to be suffering the most are the families of the missing.. There was a news conference held in Kuala Lumpur with updates about what we know on the missing plane—as far as the news conference, think of it like this: we don’t know a thing and anything you’ve known is wrong. But during the event, families of the missing became frustrated and emotional, screaming out in tears and anger. They were also angry at the response or lack thereof from governmental bodies. As a result, they were swept away as the media watched, families who are going through agony and misery simply dragged away from the news conference in front of reporters.. Even the BBC reported that a reporter from their agency was pushed away from family members carrying banners critical of the government. The BBC reporter, Jonah Fisher, faced a wall of police as he tried to talk to the wailing wall of people..

My point, if any, is that the story of where the plane is and how it went missing is extremely important. And the flight simulator with its programmed routes, along with the sudden movement of Flight 370 itself, are big issues. But the heart of the story are the lives aboard. If a flight carrying no one vanished they story wouldn’t matter nearly as much. But a flight carrying so many lives, so many stories, and so many souls, makes this matter much more. But at the same time the media is hardly talking about those lives, and really not permitted to speak to the families of the missing.

There seems to be something rotten in Malaysia. Either the government is hiding something or has simply dropped the ball so hard that the time frame to find the plane is now dwindling to the point of no return.

I am struck by how little attention is being paid to the lives aboard this flight. The images of the children of the disappeared was striking when I saw them the other day. But they are not just becoming forgotten.. missing plane parts are more important that body parts.

As the families drift into darkness, rushed away from reporters snapping photos, ask yourself this: Are we just accepting of mass murder and mass death? Are we even phased by it anymore? Is it just a side story on the big story?

War makes news only because of the men who plan war. The victims, often children birthed into a world of heartbreak, are forgotten. Collateral damage. We say. We think.

But what do we really think, deep down?

Are you a bystander in life, just watching mass death from a distance? Did you lose your connection to humanity, thinking what happens “there” will not affect here? What happens to “them” is less important than “us”? Ask yourself that..?

These are the first images released of the children aboard Flight 370..
Their beautiful faces speak for themselves.
I wish for a world without tragedy and fear for children. Obviously judging from daily news, this planet hasn’t attained any goal of goodness or love.
If a horrible accident occurred on board this plane, it’s assumed that all 239 passengers succumbed to their ill-fated demise quickly. I fear that did not happen.. I especially cringe thinking about the plane experiencing a hijacking gone wrong, or something even worse for the innocent people aboard the flight.
Yes, indeed.. those who tune out of heavy headlines may be the happiest.
I’m not like that. I soak up the news as much as a Sheryl Crow soaks up the sun. And for that, I am typically upset about what some nation or person has done to an innocent child in a dark part of the planet Earth.

What say you internet users: Right or wrong? Censorship or not?

Kendall Jenner nipple photo at fashion show deleted by INSTAGRAM ..

The question arises: Is she too young at 18 for sheer clothing?

If INSTAGRAM wanted to do anyone a favor, they’d lay off the nipple content and remove Justin Bieber’s account altogether.

Opinions out there fashionistas or nipple lovers?

If children are terminal ill and are suffering every single day, then why would we have the right to let them suffer until they die a painful death? When in fact, we can give them a peaceful and painless death so the child and the parents don't have to suffer no longer. Belgium is a very rational country with mostly atheists, you are American so I get why you have problems with it.

But this goes to the overall question of assisted suicide in general.. not only for children, but for adults.

Medicine seems to have two functions right now. On one hand it’s trying to help relieve pain and help people survive (which is why opposition to medicinal pot is inane) and on the other hand it is trying to enforce a culture in which we need to decide when people die. When their time is up.. when no more miracles can happen.

I don’t know what to say about children in immense pain and suffering, nor about adults. It is a sad fact that happens every day—and yes, many of them want to die and I don’t doubt that many of them purposely die at their own hands. As I understand it, we would have people able to assist them in killing themselves.

I don’t know, also, what safeguards would put in effect that we don’t start killing off those who are, perhaps, societal rejects. Not that we ever did that before, humans have always been extremely kind to each other without violence or eugenics. Sarcasm bolded..

This is a tough subject for me, to be honest.. It’s a deep and difficult question: When should a suffering person be permitted, legally, to have help in ending their lives? When should their terminal illnesses be over.

And really, it goes far beyond medical and religious.. it delves into the spiritual. I read an interesting article by someone who said that suffering in the here and now is just a part of the never-ending reincarnated spirit that needs endure physical and emotional pain. I don’t know if I agree with that statement, but it shows that there are more than enough different opinions which can be expressed in this issue.

I also wonder this: What if a medical advancement occurs but since it’s cheaper to allow a child to die, we opt for the death over the procedure? I know, I know, a little less likely but .. a question I ponder.

Read this section from a report on the Belgium issue:

Foes of the law in the House said the proposal was full of holes.

"Can you tell me what a ‘state of discernment’ means?" asked Becq.

Does near death mean “three days, three weeks, six months?” asked Steven Vanackere, another Christian Democrat.

I am undecided over the morality .. I am also unprepared as a human to see human suffering at such unfair levels—especially when suffering children bring so much doubt that a God even exists..

But I say this: Is it a medical advancement to find cures and new treatment for disease to relieve suffering, or is it in fact advancing society to just ‘end it’ and give up? That’s a big, big question. And when you boil it down to an individual suffering, it may not matter a hill of beans. For the long term, though, it’s a truly moral issue that society will be grappling with.

Thanks for the comment and sincere question. It caused me to think..

Teflon stick..

I need some advice. I am going to throw away all my Teflon pans.. I have cast iron. Anyone recommend anything else? Stainless steel?

I know that Teflon has issues —at least if it chips. My Gordon Ramsay pans are actually scratching and chipping. Time to get RID OF THE CANCER RISK..

But what is best?

I use the cast iron for mostly meats or fish..

I need something else to saute.

Lately I have overused my NUWAVE oven lately and feel it may be on its last wave..

How many inches are YOU seeing this morning?

That question is intended only for people who are seeing snow. Although I suppose on Tumblr, there can be many interpretations not appropriate for children.

A question for all the parents out there..

There are some shows I don’t let me son watch.. there are some shows he watches and does not like (thankfully) .. and one of those shows is UNCLE GRANDPA. He’s not interested yet, but I assume as he ages, he will become so. Which frightens me.. UNCLE GRANDPA may be the single worst cartoon, ever. And quite possibly WORSE in the annoyance level than even CAILLOU.

Who agrees?

I need some answers from readers

I have a playlist on this site now, it includes some of my favorite songs.. I expect it to change and be updated as much as my background image..

I was told today playing autoplay music is as crude as having a 1990s style Geoshitties page.

Can any of you let me know your thoughts on autoplaying music when you get to a site? Does it help or hurt?

Everything was typical.. until the atypical occurred.

This story is true. Trust me.. I would never lie to readers…

TONIGHT, around 6:30 PM…

It was just another night at Coal Speaker home base..

My wife’s sister was here for dinner.. Ayden, as usual, wasn’t hungry, so he was watching BATMAN on TV.. And on the table, three empty bowls. Our soup was gone..

For the record, my wife and her sister were talking.. my empty

I stood up from the table and turned around to the refrigerator to get something… My wife and her sister remained at the table.

I suddenly heard a clank noise, as though the spoon hit the bowl. When I turned around, the three of us witnessed the bowl crack into three pieces. When my wife moved her arms towards to the bowl to pick up the glass, it cracked and shattered further…

All three of us heard the spoon clank noise.. all three of us watched the bowl crash.

This occurred about 10 minutes AFTER hot soup was gone.. an empty, cold bowl.
By the way, the bowl itself is “Corelle Break and Chip Resistant.”

I am “SURE” there is a scientific explanation for this.. But I racked my brain for hours now trying to figure that out .. the only end game I can have is to travel down the paranormal road.
Unless someone out there, in the dark of the night, has a thought as to how this could happen..

Am I crazy? Paranoid? ..Probably.
But explain how a spoon seems to suddenly jump, crack a bowl, and have it all occur without anyone doing it?

The good old days weren't all that good but war's still as bad as it seems

I was 23 years young and dumb, fighting for my rights to party somewhere in a smoky bar room—you could smoke back then.. And on the cover of TIME MAGAZINE: George W. Bush with a big headline “Do you want this war?”

Americans were torn..
And now in 2013, after a decade of war and then some, only about 9% of Americans surveyed support military action in Syria. So much for the rest of the nation..

But absent this night: Media asking Americans if they want this war? No magazine covers—there’s apps for that now.. And hell, NEWSWEEK isn’t even printing anymore..right Tina?

Are we rushing into another one? And could this one be much worse?
After all, what would be he result of “tactical” strikes on Assad? We assume no one would retaliate — maybe not against us, but what about Israel? China’s red faced anger could show itself.. would they call in the debt!? And Russia? They’ll sick Snowden back on us..
Meanwhile a Shah sleeps in Iran, and does he have a plan?

It ain’t no end times. But Armageddon sure can come on quick. And these summer Armageddons are the worst.

Yes, indeed, this whole event already seems murky and messy. But ain’t that America.
…so, 89% that didn’t want the war a few days ago..do you want it now?

Open lines weekend

It is a beautiful weekend and in my opinion either a sin crime against humanity if you don’t get out and enjoy it..

But in the meantime my lines are open throughout the weekend.. ask me anything, tell me anything. I’m calling it the ‘DO ASK, DO TELL’ weekend in June..

Enjoy life, all.

The lighter side.. though there isn’t much light about Governor Chris Christie, this picture made me laugh. I can picture a caption of Obama asking Christie, “Now Chris, I had a tuna sandwich on Air Force One, and it’s gone.. did you take my tuna sandwich?”

I’d love to hear your captions?

Question of the night: Is a college degree worth the cost?

Point: College grads can’t find jobs. Student loan debt is passing the $1 tril mark, and higher than credit card debt nationwide…
