The story that 13-year-old Zubair ur Rehman told was so moving, the moved the translator to tears.. She told the story of Momina Bibi, 67, her grandmother.. she was out picking okra when a drone fired several missiles at an unknown targets near his compound.
Eventually the drone strike killed Bibi…
The child testifying said this,
"Now I prefer cloudy days when the drones don’t fly. When the sky brightens and becomes blue, the drones return and so does the fear. Children don’t play so often now, and have stopped going to school. Education isn’t possible as long as the drones circle overhead"
Still not concerned about collateral damage? Perhaps then you lost your humanity.

A woman believes that she was healed by a ghost, and also goes on to claim that she has a photo to prove it..She said that the ‘White Lady’ in a church during a family summer holiday.. Does this photo prove that a ghostly angel may have assisted in healing someone, or is it proof that ‘mind over matter’ is stronger than we think?
She got better AFTER she was shown the image.. perhaps her mind filled with joy and wonderment .. maybe a spirit did it. OR maybe her brain simply got a jump charge of positive reinforcement…
And maybe, as some would argue, science and God would go hand in hand, that there was a spirit and her brain did jump start, but that they both worked together.
I am undecided. This did not occur to me, so I cannot judge her situation or predicament. I can only wonder.. and question.. constantly.

The latest scares of the world have led to this: “Trunk or treating.” People are getting candy ‘off the streets’ and instead putting them in trunks of cars in church parking lots.. to make things safer.. although children may not be safer around certain church leaders, I suppose this is all just eventual.
Nevermind the stories that I have been posting in which there have not been these ‘razor blades in apples’ that people always though.. Blame those rumors and decades-long scares on pure rumor and speculation. They didn’t happen.
Nonetheless, let’s go get dressed up in an expensive costume and go to the trunk of one car. Sounds fun.

The film is called AFTERMATH. The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER is reporting about the film today.. It perhaps may be one of the most important movies ever made, and since it is about actual events that some have chosen to forget, will be controversial too..
It details some horrible series of events that happened on July 10 1941.. It premiers in the United States this week..
If you want to know how controversial this movie may be, consider just the opening paragraph of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER story:
On July 10, 1941, half the residents of Jedwabne, a Polish village 85 miles northeast of Warsaw, murdered the other half. The mob, led by the mayor, were Catholics; their 1,600 victims were Jewish, slaughtered over several nightmarish hours with bats, knives, rifles and other improvised weapons. Those who survived the massacre were then rounded up in a barn donated by a local farmer, which was then set ablaze. A plaque erected at the site blamed Nazis for the massacre, but, in fact, Nazis had only authorized it. Locals walked by the plaque for half a century, knowing the truth, but saying nothing
The story of Jedwabne is not the typical one taught in American high schools. As a matter of fact, most people may not even know of the dreadful story.. They will this week, at least those who hear of the movie..
In 2001, a book called NEIGHBORS explores the death of the 1,600 people.. While I never read it, this may be as good a time as any to reflect on history that mostly has gone unnoticed in the United States.
God fearing Catholics..armed with weapons of little destruction, killed their neighbors …
One part of the story, also that may come as a surprise to those who are not aware, the Poles actually asked their new rulers, the Nazis, if it was permitted they kill the Jews. When they got the greenlight, they went overboard—so much so that the Nazis actually told the Poles to keep one family of Jews from every profession.. the Poles said no thanks, as they continued their bloody rampage..

The best book covers ever—-and some of the best books ever, too. I remember being frightened of these imaginative stories as a child—some have stuck with me ever since.
There was a yearly ‘book fair’ that would show up in my grade school. I went to a Catholic school, so nice child-friendly books were proudly on display. But if you looked hard enough, you can find these books there.. I bought it sneakily, as though I was doing something bad, and tucked it away in my bookbag until I got home. I’d read it at night, and covered myself with blankets when I heard the house squeak….
They were scary stories to tell in the dark…
And if I’m not mistaken, they still exist somewhere in my house. I just have to find them…
When I do my son will inherit the treasure..
The mystery of yeast
I pride myself in being a decent cook.. someone who can put a little love into something and end up with something tasty..
So in my “one ingredient diet" recently, I planned the big one: Baking my own homemade bread. The concept itself was beautiful in my mind.. in practice? Well..
I’ve not reached three homemade loaves of bread that were crusty, heavy, and didn’t quite ‘rise’ the way I wanted. I have never really used yeast before, and figure my misunderstanding of yeast is my roadblock..
This bread thing? It’s like a science project.. I actually feared that my yeast would rise too much and my house would suddenly take on the appearance of a 1950s rerun of I LOVE LUCY. But alas, it was not meant to be.
The loaves had decent flavors.. but once they got cool, they turned into rock hard entities, things that look like they’d look better as a garden decoration than a food product..
I need more fluff.
More yeast? Less?
A house of bread would be better than a rock hard insult.
I will persevere, though! This dough ain’t got me down.

Asteroid due to fly in between Earth and the moon
SPACE.com: NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program says a small asteroid will fly in between Earth and the moon on Tuesday, with its closest pass to our planet occurring around 5:45 p.m. ET.
The asteroid was first discovered on Oct. 25. During its closest pass, the space rock will fly by Earth at a distance of about 176,000 miles. It’s estimated to be between 39 and 89 feet wide.

This YouTube video is a conglomeration of scenes from HALLOWEEN 3, the Season of the Witch.
I fondly remember old times gone by, gathering together with friends in a house of our choice, firing up the colortini, and watching the waves of Halloween flow through the air.
Actually, what we did was a high-school type version of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. We’d make comments and jokes, mock the film, and laugh throughout.. We did it for more than just Halloween 3, it was for many horror flicks. Our favorite character, as a group collectively, was Doctor Loomis. We coined a term “Loomicide” that would one day go on to become my late 1990s and early 2000s AOL screen name..
Oh, those good old days!
But in hindsight, dare I say, Halloween 3 is sort of a classic. I may have been met with scorn for that comment last century, but I think people are rediscovering the awfulness and also amazingnenss of Halloween 3.
Sure, the acting is terrible.. yes the scenery is awful.. and by all means, the flow of the movie is choppy and sloppy—but isn’t that what sort of makes it good in a sense?
However, think of it this way: Halloween 3 may have been the BEST of the entire series.
Sure, it didn’t feature the SHAPE, Michael Myers, donning the Shatner mask.. and no, it had no mentions of Laurie Strode. There was a scene though where the tied up main star was forced to watch the original Halloween…
There were also some other lessons to be learned from Halloween 3, some cautionary tales to remember..
For instance: Bad parenting. The child who gets his head eaten by snakes and worms had really awful parents, they just seemed to want to be rid of their child.. they were selfish and had little skill in containing their son, who ran wild without attention.
Another lesson: The overuse of television. In that time, the boob tube had antennas. Today, there’s no need with handheld devices and Twittering from all ends of the earth. Maybe, though, the fact that kids were glued to TV and almost slaves to it should be a lesson for all of us.
Something else: How powerful media is. And how many times influential hidden messages can be tucked into our shows. In this movie, kids were told to get home by 9 o’clock too put their Halloween masks on, and then eventually succumb to a massive amount of worms, snakes, bugs, and other things that would eat their brains.. Pretty scary if you minus out the acting of the movie. Maybe John Carpenter was actually trying to show that subliminal messages are alive and well, and that they could maybe make us do things against our will..? That or he just wanted to come up with an idea that was different.
I tried contacting the legend, John Carpenter, for this, but his associate said he was not able to comment on Halloween 3 at this time. Understandable. I think he’s a little busier than me at the moment.
So in that sense, we need to look to past interviews to see what exactly John Carpenter intended on doing in THE SEASON OF THE WITCH. It’s worth remember that Carpenter really didn’t want to do any more Michael Myers related films. They actually envisioned that a fourth Halloween would have been a ghost story. Instead, since H3 flopped, the fourth was the RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS. And then there was a 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, … bla bla bla.. John Carpenter told Aint it Cool news that he didn’t understand why fans of Halloween hated the third installment so much.. He said, “Hey, man, I don’t know. I like HALLOWEEN 3. I like the story, especially weird evil Irish industrialists. It’s hilarious.”
And it was hilarious .. It was awful. Wonderfully awful.
I go back now and think to myself that Debra Hill and John Carpenter touched on a number of themes that are actually quite scary. Yes, teenagers can mock it, just as I did with friends back in sultry summer night parties in the late 1990s… But maybe I have developed a renewed appreciation for this movie..
What could be scarier for a child that having your mom and dad buy you a mass produced mask because you were convinced by a commercial with an annoyingly catchy theme to do it.. and you jump on the bandwagon with millions of other American kids… and you wear your mask, at the same time as them, at 9pm on Halloween night.. and have your brain eaten by bugs?
Now that is scary for a kid.

Nightmares and dreamscapes
It has been well over a decade since my paternal grandmother died. Over the years I have been given the gift of having some dreams about her—however she was never actually in them.. only her vacant house and her empty garden. Last night, that changed. I had a dream that we were saying goodbye to her house and her life (a long time after mind you) and she was in it.. she gave me a great big hug and whispered “where did the time go?” and finally “I love you.’ Even though it was a dream it felt like magic.. My dream ended with me asking her, “Do you believe in God” and ….boom. The alarm clock began to do its early morning magic-buster.. I never got an answer.. But I know that she loves me.. Ironically, this was also the first dream in which my son was actually in it—I have been a dad for two and a half years but this was a first.. I was showing my son Ayden a pear tree she had.. I found an old toy in her house..
But as for that potent God question?

It’s also a time where, in my opinion, I feel it becomes a virtual ‘full moon’ for the week.. The strange, the creepy, the macabre. It begins today..
This is horrible.. Disgusting news from New York City: Stabbing rampage hits Brooklyn.. a man was arrested after butchering a woman and her four children.. According to reports this Sunday morning, a ‘crazed man’ turned the Sunset Park home into a slaughterhouse.. The woman was 37. She had four young children.. The man has been identified as the children’s mentally troubled older cousin.. This is such a horrible story..
The killing is being called a mass stabbing..

Remember back in September when Miley Cyrus costumes were flying off the shelf? Well that was so then.. This is now. And the ‘now’ is defined by the internet meme of the day, the topic and trend of the moment—and those trends can change by the moment.
And in that sense, basing your costume off of a trend can show how ‘dated’ you are—the ‘dating’ of years back would take months. These days it takes minutes..
USA TODAY opens its article with the trying tale of a woman from Arizona . She bought her Miley Cyrus costume but will not be wearing it to the Halloween party… I wonder how many other people are in the same boat as her? A foam finger collecting dust already.. a skimpy outfit hanging up… waiting to be worn but probably never will be…

The first thing this quote tells me is how uncool I have always been.. I keep un-dusting my Freddy outfit on a regular basis.. It’s so old that the mask is ripped up the back of the head and I am not forced to wear it with a hoodie—actually making it a little more frightening in my opinion.
But enough about me, back to YOU.
The history of costumes is a stroll down amnesia lane in pop culture.
There aren’t many homemade ghosts anymore.. replacing them? The sexy and skimpy outfits of nurses who seem to want sex more than candy.
In our current times of virtual trick or treating, kids come and go. IN my personal opinion, I rarely even know what they are anymore.. they don’t seem to know either..
Of course, 20-somethings will wear their makeup and outfits with little material, go to that bar and achieve success: Drunken sex with a ‘sexy’ Superman costume laying on the floor. The dignity they lost in the process was priceless, but what do they care? They’re not 30 yet..
Halloween has changed .. It still changes. Abruptly.

I have long debated in my own mind: What do I hate more, spiders or snakes?
So far, my experience with snakes has been rotten. They sneak into my house.. one nonvenomous one bit me in 2007.. But my wife has suffered a few spider bites that made my little two-holed snake bite look like child’s play.
Now this from the UK: A venomous spider attack has shut down a British school! Apparently the Den Academy has experienced an outbreak of the ‘false widow’ .. no, not the black widow spider.
The false widow, as opposed to the widow of another nature, is called Britain’s deadliest spider .. it’s not aggressive towards humans, but does bite if it gets trapped in clothing..
It is believed to have arrived in the UK in crates of fruit from the Canary Islands. And since, eight legged hell ensued. Oh, and thanks to climate change, people expect the false widow to mate and spread across the United Kingdom.
And if crates of tea and crumpets or fish and chips leave there to other places? Expect the false widow to just spread across the planet.
A whole new world of venomous life.
Great. And these spiders are plain out horrendously ugly..
Pork is what’s never for dinner for me anymore: A pig disease that killed millions of piglets in China has now spread to the United States. US farmers have now reported 768 cases of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV).
There is a theory that oarfish wash ashore when a big event is about to take place—perhaps tectonic movement. It’s rare.. but it happened prior to the massive Japan quake and tsunami. And now oarfish are washing ashore in California .. The oarfish has drawngawkers .. but also some fears.. Could this be a sign of movement deep under the ocean, in the depths of the earth? Is something moving? Oarfish predicting earthquakes is not as crazy as it sounds..
Some more fish news: Remember the news we and so many others have been reporting on concerning a mysterious and loud global hum? A new theory now provides a potential answer: It could be the sound of mating fish in the North Atlantic and the English Channel .. So when the waters are rockin’ I’d imagine it’s not good to go knockin’??

The government is used to regulating products and not selling them. Perhaps that’s too easy of a way out for the Obama Administration? I just think the entire disaster that is now happening with Obamacare is unfortunate—there really is no way to even debate if Obamacare in itself is good, because the problems with the health care rollout has completely overshadowed the argument as to whether health care reform was right or wrong. Now we are dealing and reeling with insurance cuts for people who have plans they wanted to keep, and a failure of a website that, for some reason, works worse than even a Geocities page in the late 1990s..
The news rundown concerning this, should you wish to cringe:
- Cancellation notices are soaring above Obamacare enrollments..
- People can’t log on!
- Dummy files and fake names were left in published code!
- Democrats in uneasy spot over Health.gov

The sun has come alive! M class and X class flares..the latest in a series of strong bursts that came off of the sun was an X1.7 flare. It will be set now to provide a glancing blow to the planet Earth.. The high school math teacher who was allegedly slain by a 14-year-old student asked the student to stay after school on the day she was killed because she wanted to help him with an upcoming test, a student in the class said today.
Student Rania Rhaedaoui said she was in Colleen Ritzer’s algebra class on the last period of the day on Tuesday, along with the suspect, Philip Chism.
“She saw him drawing during class and she just said to him, ‘I didn’t know you could draw,’” said Rhaedaoui, a 14-year-old freshman.
“I sit really close to him, so I could hear,” she said.
Rhaedaoui said she later heard Ritzer ask Chism to stay after school.
“She just said, ‘Can you stay after with me?’ He just gave a nod.”
“There was a test coming up, and she wanted to know if he had any questions on learning equations,” Rhaedaoui said.
Cambria Cloutier, another 14-year-old freshman, who was also in the class, said she walked by Ritzer’s classroom at about 3:15 p.m., more than an hour after the class had gotten out at 1:55 p.m. “She was standing at her computer, and he was just sitting there,” Cloutier said. “It just looked normal, like any other day.”

Inside the interesting world of creating fake eyes.. the LA TIMES reports on the ‘family business’ … One thing I found interesting: No schools actually offer education on ocularistry.. you have to be an apprentice and work with a master craftsman..
I suppose besides that, the notion of creating fake eyes as a living is just sort of creepy and weird..

Horrible events seem to repeat themselves
This is getting beyond creepy.. A few days ago the world became aware of the plight of the family of Kendrick Johnson. Johnson was 17, was found dead rolled up in a gym mat, and had an autopsy in which his cause of death was ruled accidental. A second autopsy was conducted but , when he was opened up for the procedure, it was discovered that his body was stuffed with newspapers .. his brain, heart, and lungs were missing. Even organ from his pelvis to his skull were gone.
And now enter this story: Ryan Singleton, 24, moved from Atlanta to Hollywood this summer… He turned up dead in Death Valley and his organs were missing ..
These stories are NOT connected.
But they are only similar in their strangeness..

It’s difficult to imagine the suffering each family is going through—a mystery of not knowing what someone you loved even died is one thing, but the added on strangeness of bodies missing organs or bodies being stuffed with newspapers adds so much insult to injury..

And here I thought the beer was doing it to me..
Tonight, my dental hygienist, who converses with me for the entire appointment about food (she talks more than me, given the circumstances), taught me something new. I learned something about food that I somehow did not contemplate: Wheat is making people fat, and maybe causing more problems than solutions in my life.
And this comes as a shock—as I thought it was good eating wheat cereal and whole wheat pasta..
So my all natural hygienist informed me that William Davis and his research on wheat would be important for me to read. I did.. If Dr. Davis is right, I am doing most things wrong..
According to what I now know in this anti-wheat theory, if I stop eating wheat my stomach will decrease and I will lose my appetite to keep eating more wheat (I do go for second helpings of that wheat pasta when I make it) ..
I also learned that wheat is just about as addictive as anything.. Maybe even cigs and beer?
The theory also contends: Wheat is a trigger of heart attacks.
So much to learn.. so much to eat that’s not wheat.
And Doc Dav concludes this about what the best diet is:
My philosophy is a return to real ingredients. Eggs, vegetables, some fruit, avocados. We should eat regular food and get rid of this notion of processed foods for breakfast. I understand that we have kids and we have people we need to entertain. So I try to recreate foods that are familiar to people. I show people how to make pizza, muffins, cookies, chocolate éclairs. We use benign ingredients. We don’t use wheat, gluten-free carbohydrates, or sugar. You can turn something like coffee cake into something that’s benign and healthy. Life is good without wheat.

By all accounts, the new policies will offer consumers better coverage, in some cases, for comparable cost — especially after the inclusion of federal subsidies for those who qualify. The law requires policies sold in the individual market to cover 10 “essential” benefits, such as prescription drugs, mental health treatment and maternity care. In addition, insurers cannot reject people with medical problems or charge them higher prices. The policies must also cap consumers’ annual expenses at levels lower than many plans sold before the new rules.
But the cancellation notices, which began arriving in August, have shocked many consumers in light of President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their plans if they liked them.

Remember a few weeks ago when Syria crossed that ‘red line’.. the President went on TV, and the world was on the brink of World War III.
Until Vlad the Impaler Putin was able to get his best buddy Assad to ‘give up’ those weapons of some destruction.
But now comes this story from the LONDON TELEGRAH: Assad’s snipers, they report, are ‘targeting unborn babies’ .. the story is shocking.
Including with it is even a disturbing image of a fetus with a bulley lodged in its head.. And whether this is true not or, LIFENEWS (a pro-life oriented site) reports that an X-ray shows unborn baby being targeted screamed in pain ..
We have been here before—times when ‘doctors’ and other experts from within a nation say something has happened but history uncovers a fact that it never did. Think back to the babies being thrown from incubators in Iraq .. George H.W. Bush used it as part of the pretext to enter Gulf War I. It has since been revealed that those events did not occur, but simply were used as propaganda to humanize the war to sell it to America..

The strange behavior of Elisa Lam
Elisa Lam was a 21-year-old student staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles .. She also succumbed to her fate there.. The story was a shock to the world: She was found dead in the Cecil’s water tank.
Not to make the story less strange, but the Cecil was also the location where the ‘Nightstalker’ stayed—Richard Ramirez was a serial killer. A murderer of prostitutes, Jack Unterweger also lived there for a bit..
And now the weird death of Elisa Lam made the Cecil an even darker place than it already was.
The other night, Art Bell’s website showcased a video of Elisa Lam in her final moments of life.. Though the video was online for some time now, Art Bell talking about it propelled it to instant popularity.
It shows Lam on an elevator acting, for lack of a better word, strange. Some think she is battling a spirit or demon, others think the video is simply an example of her fragile sanity.. The four-minute security video was posted on YouTube (*I don’t know by who, you’d think this was evidence??*) .. In the clip, Lam is frantically pushing elevator buttons as the door of the elevator stays open.. then she starts behaving bizarre..After these strange events on the elevator, Elisa Lam gained access to the rooftop of the Cecil Hotel. She climbed into the water tank of the hotel. She then died—and was found two weeks later .. The only reasons she even was found was because hotel guests were complaining of the water’s taste and color—investigators found her body decomposing in the hotel’s source of water..
In September, the UBC student’s parents filed wrongful death litigation against the owners of the Cecil Hotel. After all, the water tank is in a restricted area, and it is sealed. Yet somehow she ended up being found dead in a place where, frankly, someone of her strength and size should not even be able to get to..
The VIGILANT CITIZEN website did great work on a report concerning Lam, the dark history at the Cecil, and other weird things like the Lam death being similar to DARK WATER from 2005 and the fact that, after Lam’s death, tuberculosis broke out on skid row in Los Angelas, near the Cecil Hotel, and the test kits used during those situations were named: ‘LAM-ELISA’..
This video, along with the inclusion of her circumstances on paranormal websites across the Internet landscape, must be painful for the family already reeling in pain from the loss of her innocent life.
But there are just some weird things about this video.. her behavior may be a result of a psychotic episode or drug use.. but the elevator doors not closing until she is gone? The fact her body was found somewhere that a person should not be able to get to?
The Cecil’s history is already frightening enough.. Add this to the mystery of the location.. And this one, in my opinion, is still unsolved—regardless of the experts and officials that called this death accidental.

Do you check your kids' Halloween candy every year for knives and poison? Ever wonder why?
I myself also recall a childhood fear of this very thing—the notion that the candy would kill me or that a razor blade would be hidden in my fruit.
The fear was only inspired further by the scene from HALLOWEEN 2 (not the Rob Zombie version) of a boy in a pirate suit being taken to the hospital for his mouth bleeding..
Those fears that we have, ingrained in us from an early age thanks to modern media and pop culture.
