Had a conversation with a believer of the rapture—though she doesn’t buy it’s going to be tomorrow.. If I have some time later I’ll try to write a little more in depth on my thoughts….. That is of course if any of us really have time left.

Last night, news emerged and spread around the world of an 8.4 earthquake off the coast of Libya.. Suddenly, the world was faced with the prospect of another mega-quake and the damage it would cause.. The trouble is, the USGS reported no earthquake and has not since.. A quick Google search already shows the plethora of conspiracy theories and that the government is hiding information on the quake.
The report came originally from the National Institute for Earth Physics.. but nothing reported on the USGS, or anywhere for that matter..
A theory proposed on some websites in the immediate aftermath of the non-8.4: A bunker buster bomb hit its target, registered, and wasn’t from within the earth but from mankind destroying something on the earth…
The global rumblings last night compared to today.. the vanishing news of an earthquake that apparently did not happen? …though the conspiracy theories will now roll..

Tongue in cheek zombie warning from the CDC.. We hope
The government warning about zombies? Yes.. inded they are.. Natural disasters may not scare people as much as the prospect of a zombie invasion, or so thinks the CDC, which jokingly (?) released instructions in writing on how Americans should prep for a zombie invasion.. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention blogged a tongue-in-cheek (?) post on zombie apocalypses, and how basic preparedness will help even if there are flesh-eaters roaming… Good luck earth. Men in power behaving badly
TIME magazine’s upcoming edition has a cover story that asks why men of power act like pigs.. Of course the reference is direct to the Kahn Man of the IMF being accused of raping a women in a hotel in New York City .. he was of course arrested this past weekend before going back to Paris.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn is just another example of a long line of powerful people ravaging the innocent, the weak, or children..
In my humble opinion, perhaps one of the best examples from our fuzzy memory of men behaving badly—horribly, criminally, and disgustingly—comes from the 1980s into the 90s, when a rising star named Larry King in the Republican party ended up in a legal mess, financial crisis, and sex scandal that some said weaved its way into the highest halls of government within the United States.
And sadly, there will be more Kings and Kahn men… twas always thus, and perhaps always thus will be. The good people of earth should hope for a judgement in an afterlife, far from the bounds of humanity, and closer to the hounds of hell where some people who trample down the innocent deserve to be.
A Christian group is urging the world to get ready for the end times—end times that are set to begin May 21.. This Saturday. The rapture is coming, rapture ready followers of the doomsday prediction are getting ready for their immediate trip to heaven scheduled for this weekend.
The rest of us, the prediction so says, will have to wait until October for our demise. We will face the tribulation while the caravan of Christians, warning the world, will be in heaven watching the earth’s last dramatic days..
But.. my question posed here now: What will this group do on Sunday morning, the day after the end times.. the day after they were set to be raptured.. the day after they predicted the end of the world would occur. Will they attend Sunday mass or just leave religion altogether?
Some are jokingly planning post-rapture looting on Facebook.
And I guess if the rapture happens, it won’t be jokingly..

Pity the once great mall
It’s a tough job these days holding up a mall.
Wayback in time to last century, when main street was killed by the way of shopping, with floors shiny and new and fountains rolling fresh water for background news. Yes, indeed, those were the days. Food courts… stores as far as the eye could see.. Even small kiosks selling things you’ve never buy but sure were happy to laugh at as you walked by..
The great American mall. The shopping experience of your lifetime, whenever you wanted it.
Fast forward to the new age… Walmart has everything you need.. No matter where it was made and how good or bad the quality may be.. And what’s not there can be found online. No need for bookstores when you have Amazon, or even your Kindle. No need for food courts when you have McDonalds and drive throughs..
We seemingly have chosen less quality simply because with it comes convenience.
These days, though, the great American mall is struggling to stick around.. Some think they have overstayed their welcome.. others feel they’ll be missed.
My local mall is no different.. Three stores there have closed within the last month alone. Walking the halls of the immense Schuylkill Mall has turned into a pretty lonely venture.
But it’s not just the abandoned coal mines of Pennsylvania facing the prospect of a future without a central shopping location.. it’s nationwide: A simply Google news search will bring back results from all over the nation of malls and stores closing in rapid style.. Even more: Go for a Google image search of mall closings from all over.
All of that, along with continuing weak numbers in the retail salescategory, is spelling out trouble for the near future. Specifically speaking: Do you know WHY retail sales are up? … and if you look deep into the numbers, PURCHASES ARE DOWN. The disconnection is easy to understand: Inflation has caused a surge in prices. So while there are more dollars coming in there aren’t really more products going out..
The nation’s economy is crumbling.. Infrastructure is at its most horrendous in many areas of the United States.. Inflation is rearing its ugly head. Gas prices are dangerously high. Food prices are extremely dangerous too.. And all the way, people are deciding: No shopping, no books, no jewelry.
Hence the death of the mall.
.I remember a time, early in my life last century, when a family visit to the mall was exciting. I’d be allowed to buy a He-Man action figure.. my sister would shop in those hip stores where most clothing looked like Madonna wore it.. And after all was over, we’d eat at one of the many choices for food.
Now.. the mall is a quick experience. People do go, but only for what they really need. And when they get there, sometimes they are surprised to see the store they were going to closed down with a sign on not to trespass..

The Blogger snobbers don't know what to say
It’s not often the Google blog team has trouble..But for hours so far today they have. Blogs are down, posts are being deleted, and all sites hosted on Blogger.com have been put into ‘read only’ mode.. This as Blogger attempts to upgrade and redo its system *and make it look a bit more like Tumblr in style and approach, as well..
I find it fun, though, that the Blogger snobbers, who have bashed the reliability of Tumblr for some time now, find themselves without a platform of expression.. This as Tumblr tumbles and reblogs itself into the evening hours this Thursday night.
But as someone who has a blog on Tumblr, and one on Blogger, I have come to learn the hard way that a third site I seldom update but still own is the best: It’s pure HTML, uploaded and updated in Notepad. Nothing can go wrong unless I don’t pay a bill…
I guess in the end the net is a fragile place.
I have often wondered what I’d do were I to find my Twitter Tumblr Blogger and others all deleted. I think it would be a FTPing shock, but life would go on. And maybe it would all be better, at that..

CNN just sent out a news alert on the Kentucky Derby winner
…to which I had just two thought. First, I wondered if horse racing rose to the prominence of an important breaking news event. And secondly, how many really pissed off people lost a boat load of money this weekend..

So jobs got added in April..
…and. 60,000+ of those jobs came from McDonalds.. But 1million people applied for the 60,000 jobs.. So 6% of so of those desperate to work got jobs somewhere they probably didn’t want to work at.. And that’s not putting down McDonalds workers in the least, do not think I am.. But it is a testimony to the depression-level job crisis this nation is in.. It appears to be deepening. With the real unemployment numbers at 17%+ and the youth unemployment well in the 20 percentile, it appears we are creating a permanent underclass… One without pensions, health care, or jobs paying more than minimum wage.. But we got Osama. And for a few minutes everything seemed alright…..until we all woke up the next day.

If my wife and I are as emotional as we are about her FMLA ending and someone new watching during the day (and believe me he’s in good hands) I guess by his school age we’ll just be downright suicidal.. But this isn’t easy. I guess it will get so in time. Then BAM! he’s in college… That’s just how life goes: In the blink of an eye. It’s why during those fleeting moments we try to keep our eyes wide open.
As my wife and I grow further as parents, one thing has surprised us..
The increase of emotions on everything.. Sentimentality.. Joy .. Sadness.. Laugher. Everything is elevated.. It’s amazing how one life changes everything. And if you couldn’t tell by now, yes my wife’s FMLA is over….
