The real meaning of Memorial Day: Those who do not return alive.

Do not lose the meaning of this day..

A tale of many Syria headlines

You know what it all comes down to? This world is insane.. messed up.. unbelievable in the amount of atrocities that have killed. And for what? Nothing. In the end, absolutely nothing.

A member of the U.S. Army Old Guard places a flag at one of the over 220,000 graves of fallen U.S. military service members buried at Arlington National Cemetery, May 24, 2012.

Flashback: Dead American soldiers dumped into landfills like trash

We should be more aware of these types of events.. We should be fully aware of attempts to not give veterans the care they deserve.

For those who don’t make it home, the most they deserve from everywhere still here is respect, dignity, and at the very least, a salute. Not to be dumped into a landfill with trash …

Flashback: Dead American soldiers dumped into landfills like trash

This is a truth that your blinds can't cover: 45% of Iraq and Afghanistan war vets file for disability

This is a truth that your blinds can't cover: 45% of Iraq and Afghanistan war vets file for disability

Respect..

Duty.

Matthew Russell, 11, from Memphis prepares to place American flags at the headstones of veterans during the Memorial Day observance ceremony at the Memphis National Cemetery in Memphis

Madeline Grace Wallace, 4, carries flags at the National Cemetery in Little Rock, Ark., Friday, May 25, 2012. The girl and her mother visited the cemetery to place flags on graves for Memorial Day.

A child doesn’t know the horror of war. At least most children.

We should want to keep it that way.

In the middle if your beer, or barbecue, or party, remember that Memorial Day is perhaps the most solemn of national holidays. It is one to contemplate the decorations of the post-Civil War days and recall the casualties of the hundreds of thousands of American soldiers that died during battle. We should also give pause to one thought: If you do end up going to a 21 gun salute somewhere in America, how do we strive to be slow to go to war and quick to try peace? How can we in such a turbulent world? Syria kills children with pacifiers in their mouths.. Drones strike in Pakistan.. Oh, and drones will patrol America, too.

But I digress.

Memorial Day 2012. Do not let this holiday lose the meaning it is intended to have. Do now cheapen it with a useless day of nothingness. Do not..

But here is the sneaking fear that scares me.. in 1945, the big picture was clear: We stopped a tyrant who was killing millions. Ever since then things got murky. And in Iraq and Afghanistan…? Well do we even know who we’re fighting now? Do we have a clue who the tyrants are? And how can you fight the tyrants when they litter this planet like plastic in an ocean?

All thoughts I for one am having this Memorial Day..

The world watches in shock at the horror developing in Houla, a suburb of Homs..

CNN reported this disturbing quote:

"By God, I washed the dead bodies of nine children. One was less than nine months old!" a man screamed to a U.N. observer. "Why are they treating us like animals? We are humans. Did the infant carry an RPG? Was he a fighter? It was a baby, he had a pacifier in his mouth."

Truly disturbing details being revealed about the Miami muncher

A fatal police shooting involving a naked man and cannibalism. Stuff of movies? No. Stuff of Memorial Day weekends in Miami? Yes, this year at least..

Details are starting to be revealed about the disturbing event today in Miami in which a naked man was chewing the face off of another  naked man on a busy highway .. A bicycle rider, Larry Vega, flagged down cops.. the rest is documented by NEWS 7 in Miami:

When the attack continued, Vega says the officer fired but the man continued to chew flesh off the victim. The officer fired several more times, eventually killing the attacker.

A Miami Herald surveillance camera caught the aftermath as the two men laid side by side on the ground. “It was just a blob of blood,” said Vega. “You couldn’t really see, it was just blood all over the place.”

Rescue crews rushed the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital with missing flesh. According to a 7News source, the victim was not recognizable.

Vega says both the men, who have not been identified, appeared to be homeless and he believes the attacker may have been on drugs. “He looked like he was on something,” he said. “Either he was really psychotic or he was on crack.”

Not something you’d expect to see everyday.. or any day.

Horrible beyond belief..

Is it me or is the world going absolutely insane?

A poisonous Pentecost Sunday for Benedict: New allegations of a conspiracy among cardinals dismissed, questions over the Vatican bank, and a unholy web of corruption

But here’s the best:

Martini, writing in an Italian newspaper, said the pope had been “betrayed” just as Jesus was betrayed 2,000 years ago, and that the Church would have to emerge from the latest scandal cleaner and stronger.

Just as Jesus was betrayed…?

So I just want to know which Cardinal is going to give the butler the noose so he can, say.. “end it himself”…?

I met a new friend today at a family party. His name is Vader. And he’s the size of a small dinosaur. Ayden loved him, he’s great with kids. Though my initial impression was one of partial fear.

I think he can ride most rides at amusement parks…

Hello Philly.. Just passing through.

Memorial Day cannibalism mayhem.. Now this is sick..One man was shot to death by Miami police, and another man is fighting for his life after he was attacked, and his face allegedly half eaten, by a naked man on the MacArthur Causeway off ramp Saturday, police said.

There's rain and hail on the highways where I'm driving today

Thank God for rest stops (Few people of much sense are Ever appreciative of rest stops…but bad weather suddenly changes that)

Hope your Memorial Day travels are filled with sun and fun.. And if not be careful out there…

Congrats to the Boston bullies. Unfortunately the Heat is waiting.

Ok... Now do the 76ers want to lose ?!

Does EITHER TEAM want to win?

Seriously.. Do the Celtics want to lose?!

The Celtics are playing like they are afraid to play the Heat.

Maybe I’m wrong.. but they are blowing the lead they had.. Do they want to abandon a victory and let the 76ers win?

A tropical storm has already formed off of the East Coast

The weather outside indeed will be frightful..

So are YOU ready for months worth of scary tornadoes, hurricanes, winds, and rain? … I don’t think I am.

A follower of mine, NotEntirely, (and you should follow the site) said:

weather’s been weird lately out here, looked a lot like this for the last two days.

A few Twitter followers have also updated me on their fears of this season.

Is it just something we are feeling? Because I am feeling it. I am not weather vane or predictor  or prognosticator, and the wonderful folks at the National Hurricane Center, Accuweather, and the Weather Channel would mop the floor with me on my weather knowledge.. But something deep down just makes me think this year will be one we will want to remember but will not be able to. Hope I’m wrong. Maybe I am. But if I’m not, as always, better safe than sorry. Prepare for the worst, expect the best. The reality is somewhere in the middle.

Centralia 'still burns'

Here we go again. Another story from major media on the quaint little town of Centralia, population almost no one. Population once was Over a thousand.. a mine fire changed that, and destroyed a road or two in the process.

The fire started 50 years ago this weekend, a Memorial Day somewhere in time.

And this year, another news article portrays the town as “macabre.”  It is not macabre. It is a tragic story, of course. However, the typical yearly media portrayal that occurs, or the occasional blip on the radar that it gets in AP news alerts due to constant court cases, always gets me irritated. No one ever really wanted the attention that they got, even today. No one really appreciates that their little home town is now home to explorers and travelers from around the world—people who seem shocked that zombies aren’t walking around the street and fires aren’t smoldering. Instead, now and then, smoke rises.

Nonetheless, it’s a story. News media come and go. And they did in the 1980s, when NIGHTLINE broadcasted live (complete with a smoke machine for the effect.) And they come and go yet again. 50 years of this.. interesting.

There has been a ton of criticism for the hosting style of John B. Wells on Coast to Coast AM. But I like him. Tonight he is taking the show into a strange direction: Palmistry. Yes it’s a real thing. And Vernon Mahabal will explain all about it. Worth the listen should you be awake at 1am on the East Coast.

Had enough..? I have.

The week was long. The weekend will be long, too. And hot. And in some places, fears of tropical season are already arriving.

Here are the dreary highlights of the latter portion of Friday:

Revealed in the documents: Power struggles, corruption The Vatican had condemned the book as ‘criminal’ and the printing of the documents were a violation of the Pope’s privacy ..

Wow: Stock watcher argues that Facebook could bring entire global economy

Wow: Stock watcher argues that Facebook could bring entire global economy

Nuclear annihilation is just on my mind tonight..

Early this evening I wrote about the new CHERNOBYL DIARIES causing controversy. Moments ago I wrote about the Fukushima nightmare…

And I just ran across this little snippet of a quote from Michio Kaku on Chernobyl—his words in my opinion are much scarier than any horror flick

You know the Chernobyl core is still melting into the earth? It’s still melting into the earth.

It’s a never ending nightmare.

Eventually they’re going to have to put concrete under the melted core to prevent it from hitting groundwater and creating perhaps a steam explosion

That is pretty frightening to contemplate… don’t you think?

The Fukushima files..

I take news from Fukushima with a grain of salt. Maybe instead I should take news about the nuclear disaster constantly in progress with a capsule of iodine instead, but I’m not quite there yet.

But where I am is constantly freaked by the news coming from there—news that the mainstream media really, arguably, is not reporting. Japan still grapples with the devastation of a post-quake land.. post tsunami.. Always on edge due to continuous jolts from fault lines. The ring of fire is on fire, and has been since March 2011.

The latest from Fukushima, however, gave me a chill to my core. I ponder over the words from Mitsuhei Murata, former Japanese ambassador to Switzerland..  he said another accident in Reactor No. 4 could cause a “final catastrophe of the world”..

Also today, another story floated around the world like earthquake debris: A former Fukushima worker believes that the ‘entire country’ of Japan could be evacuated if No. 4 fuel pool collapses.

Hear that? The entire country.
Oh I’m sorry, you’re busy watching the CHERNOBYL DIARIES trailer.. Get back to that, then…

Words of Murata and this Daiichi worker got immediate attention after translation. Whether anything was lost in translation? I don’t know.. whether it was hyperbole? I don’t know.. Was Murata trying to just get attention of the world on Fukushima? Attention that slipped away steadily since radiation starting pouring out of the reactor and spread across the world.

Oh, and yes, if you’re on a beautiful beach somewhere along the left coast, get ready: The shores will soon be plagued by debris from Japan. It’s already hitting Hawaii and Alaska.

It is a small world after all.

So raise a glass to luck. And hopefully Murata is wrong and our luck will not run out…

This whole Facebook IPO fiasco is just getting more and more strange.. now regulators are set to review Morgan Stanley allegations

Allegations state that Morgan Stanley shared negative news with big investors right before Facebook went public… this news today after only days since Facebook was unveiled on the market—and the stock declined ferociously ever since.

Another story about the Facebook financial drama from CNBC, which reports that the stock selloff Monday nearly turned into a run..

But think of it this way: Facebook is virtual. It’s selling virtual reality. And in reality it’s selling you. So really, what market investor really wants to invest in you anyway?

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook

This whole Facebook IPO fiasco is just getting more and more strange.. now regulators are set to review Morgan Stanley allegations

Is it too soon for a Chernobyl movie?

When CHERNOBYL DIARIES is released, Friends of Chernobyl Centers U.S. will not be in attendance.. The group has blasted the film over the portrayal..

In the movie, six tourists enter the nuclear town to discover horrific zombies and nuclear-drenched people.. Scares ensue. Problem is, Chernobyl is a real life tragedy. A meltdown in 1986 was one of the biggest nuclear disasters in history .. in real life, thousands of people have died and 400,000 had to leave when the incident took place..

The furor over the film began with a report on TMZ with comments from the group that is angry over the movie .. but today, a new report on TMZ gets the producer’s side of the story: Oren Peli said the film was done with respect for the ‘86 disaster and its victims..

Peli told TMZ: “As for the claim that our film exploits anyone — we could not disagree more vigorously. First of all, the criticism and accusations are coming from a group that has not seen the film, whereas conversely the praise for it is coming from those who have indeed seen it” .. More here..

Perhaps Peli will strike gold and FUKUSHIMA DIARIES will be next?

So what are your thoughts, all?

Occupy livestreamers detained at gunpoint by police in Chicago

But..

The police never explained why the men were being detained but handcuffed and interrogated them, searched their car, repeatedly slammed one of their computer hard drives against the car floor, and attempted to delete their footage of the incident before it could be archived at Ustream

But it was too late. The attempt to delete the footage … well, it appears it did not work.

More on the big Italy quake: Historic buildings hit with a lot of damage

Reuters reports on one man who died because he was at the right place.. at the wrong time:

A 57-year-old Italian was killed when part of an ironworks in Sant’ Agostino collapsed, and two men were killed in the same town when part of a ceramics factory collapsed. “He wasn’t supposed to be there. He changed shifts with a friend who wanted to go to the beach,” the mother of one of the victims said.

Excellent point and video from the website DutchSinse: Have a plan and be ready

Some mighty large quakes recently.

It’s not a bad idea to just have some notion of what you’d do in case of a dire emergency.. one that say, hasn’t hit since the 1300s….. Italy..

Excellent point and video from the website DutchSinse: Have a plan and be ready

This Reuters image showcases the amount of damage that took place in Italy—as a quake stronger than any in hundreds of years hit ..

The official summary of the photo:

The old tower is damaged after an earthquake in Finale Emilia May 20, 2012. A strong earthquake rocked a large swathe of northern Italy early on Sunday, killing at least three people and causing serious damage to the area’s cultural heritage. The epicentre of the 6.0 magnitude quake, the strongest to hit Italy in three years, was in the plains near Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of the Po River Valley. REUTERS/Paolo Bona

The magnitude was a 6.0.

The earth is moving in Italy

Actually it seems lately that the unstable crust that houses our feet is moving everywhere.. But today,  one of the worst quakes to hit northeast Italy in hundreds of years rattled the region around Bologna early Sunday.

A civil defense official told the AP that it was the worst earthquake since the 1300s..

The quickening just got quicker..

And it begins.

This image shows a NATO protester being arrested in Chicago .. Outright crackdown on protesters is set to begin by police, who have been warning for months that security was going to be tight.

Reports a few days back on local Chicago news indicated that a no fly zone will be in effect in Chicago for the duration of the NATO meeting.

A large demonstration in set for Chicago today.. police vs. protesters Match 1 set to begin some time during the next several hours..

An AP report illustrates the amount of tension that is already existent between both sides in Chicago.

And meanwhile, when the NATO summit begins, world leaders will be dealing with a potential breakup of the EU, war, and all that happy go lucky stuff…

Ever feel like this? We all do sometimes

GHOST ADVENTURES Ayden edition

Saturday morning craziness here maybe for some followers of mine, but this morning while Tara and I were videoing Ayden in his post-casting of his leg and, to our surprise and his, he began to point around the room and become distracted by something.. He followed something with his eyes, his entire body moved to find whatever it was he was looking for. When we reviewed the tape…. mom and dad found a white orb-like object moving where Ayden looked.

Seriously.

It’s interesting because I am addicted to ghost shows on TV—with the exception of GHOST ADVENTURES, they just annoy me sometimes.. But with all my addiction aside I am typically quite scientific and skeptical of videos I see. I analyzed the video this morning of Ayden for the past hour.. I cannot debunk it.

That in itself does not mean it is authentic or real.. I am choosing not to post it on here simply because.. well.. I don’t know what it would be that I am posting and don’t want to go onto a limb that cannot support the weight of any argument. *I did post below a little screen cap of Ayden Morris searching the room with his eyes*

It is interesting though.. In October 2010, I had a VERY brief glimpse of a strange fast moving object in the sky that seemingly vanished into thin air. My dog Bailey was still alive, but sadly she couldn’t share in my outright joy of finally seeing a UFO after years of wanting to.. On the flip side, I never really wanted to see a ghost. But if they are real, well, I suppose then the chances of us seeing one increase. Maybe having a child also do well in increasing the likelihood of strange activities? …

…I am followed on here by agnostics, atheists, Christians, pagans, and witches. I love that about who follows me.. and who I follow. So you may focus your point of view on this post and either laugh at me, think I’m crazy, or want to send me strange powders and creams to protect the house.

Frankly, I don’t know what it is that showed up… dust? A glowing orb? A spirit?…

Or just nothing?… I don’t know

Do you venture to say you do?

Read it and weep.

"And the easiest way to handle her acting up was to medicate her," said Rachel’s father.

I read the news today oh boy. And now I’m done…

I read the news today.. oh boy

The headlines and links to things that you  may want to see, may not want to see.. and may be disgusted by seeing. Indeed, the earth is a mess. Here are some examples.

The silver lining is that you’re alive. And you can change it. Or at least try. Even the highest mountains can move if the earth quakes enough…

Just the facts:

Wrong.

Care.

We have some very big questions to answer as we head down the path of surveillance. And love him or hate him, Matt Drudge had a Twitter ramble the other day that is worth quoting. He made some sense in the questions asked:

Question for The New Age: If one shoots down a fed/police drone while it’s invading one’s privacy, does that make one a terrorist?

Does ‘Homeland’ need warrant to fly drones over one’s backyard? Will new drones look into window? Follow one driving? Walking? NSA protected

Can media organization use drone for ‘news gathering’? Can citizen hire private ‘eye’ in personal dispute? Or only ‘Homeland’ can have fun?

Once had LAPD tell me ‘traffic’ cam could zoom up to zit on nose. Will new drones have same ability? Big Sis Reads Lips! Or will have mic?

Alas, no one would care on TWITTER, they’re all looking down. What drones?

How soon until Rahm unleashes armed drones in Chicagoland, like he did at White House in ‘terror’ war? And can one be put on ‘no spy’ list?

…I read the news today indeed.
Hope tomorrow will be better.
We know it won’t.

See you all on the other side of the sunrise.

The sunrise.. ready to be eclipsed and shine a ring of fire.

You don't see a story like this every day.. The newest rumor floating around Russia is that an Obama official warned that the end of the world is coming

Today was tough. Ayden Morris was a trooper when they applied the cast. But … even troopers have bad moments.  He yelled, screamed.. his face turned a strange shade of purple.. veins popped out of his forehead.. his strength was overwhelming. I think at that moment he could have seriously lifted a car in the air.

I never had a broken bone in my life. Knock on wood that it stays that way..

So I asked the friendly Doc ‘is it worse to put the cast on or take it off?’

There was laughter.. Followed by a horrific look on all our faces.

Yes, indeed. Three weeks from now Ayden’s anger may build again.

Until then….. stickers of Thomas the Train and …well, as much sugar as he wants.

Unfortunately Ayden has a fracture… And a series of XRays, a cast, and memories to suppress… The little man turned into a ferocious tiger…

Here's one to make you wonder: A mystery object nearly caused a mid-air collision

The object didn’t show up on radar..

Maybe it was a bird.

A drone?

And it brings up the question in my mind: In the future, how many people are going to believe that the drones that are about to fill the sky are actually extra terrestrial craft? And in the past, how many people already thought it…

A stroll down amnesia lane

My wife and I looked back through old photos tonight.. Way back to those retro days of *gasp* 2005. Yes, it doesn’t seem like a long time ago.. but wrinkles add to the days and stress and weight add to our ways.

It is just strange when you stop for a brief moment and look back at yourself.

Sometimes the events captured in pictures isn’t even fresh in the mind anymore..

Time sure can be fleeting.

I think a new goal, as of now, is to live a little more like every day is the last. Strolling through photos illustrates just how rapidly it all goes.. but where does it go?

I picture Langoliers happily eating the past.

Happy summer.

And you thought texting while driving was bad.. try this one on for size

Perhaps NATURAL NEWS titles it best:

Mindless pedestrians walk right into traffic while texting, talking on cell phones

What is happening in this nation, and world? …and street corner. People increasingly unaware of what goes on around them.

We are tuned in to Twitter and Facebook. We are streaming live.. we are Netflixing up life and Skyping until the sun sets.. we are setting up our iPads and iPods and iEverythings at the side of our bed.. ready to search and lurk at a moment’s notice. And yes, even some are putting iPods into their skin so they will vibrate with every alert.

This is our society.. Tuned in but tuned out at the same time.

A similar note, perhaps: The IQ level of the world is a fascinating thing. The listing can be found here .. Highest: Hong Kong. Where is the United States? 19th.

Find that on your Twitterfeed. Just don’t walk into traffic if you decide to click the link…

There are times I really hate the summer.. one reminder of the on again off again relationship occurred today

Seriously. Summer can be great. Weather often beautiful.. long days.. warmth. Sunshine. All that romantic stuff of summer nights. Fourth of July.. Barbeques.

Oh..

And blood sucking ticks.

Yes, ticks.

For all of its beauty and wonder, there are times I despise the summer season. A few reminders occurred in the past few days: My niece unplugged a tick from her neck. My wife got one off her stomach, one we subsequently found crawling in our laundry. My dad had one on his hand. And today while driving my son home from his doctor’s appointment, one little disgusting vile creature was crawling on my arm.

I know the tick season will be worse this year because of the warm winter. Which is another reason I actually LOVE COLD AND SNOWY winters. Get the logic now?

How is tick season where you are?

Interesting story from George Knapp in Vegas: Death in the desert.. bodies buried perplex investigators

Knapp has been ferociously working missing persons stories lately.. his Coast to Coast AM show about strange disappearances in National Parks around America still resonates with many who heard it.

Great story from Knapp..

A whole new way of looking at a desert: A vast graveyard topped with sand.

Something few in the world are paying attention to right now.. but if it happens, the world will notice: A possible Euro split coming?

The future is now: AP reports: One in 3 young adults with autism have no paid job experience, college or technical schooling nearly seven years after high school graduation, a study finds. That's a poorer showing than those with other disabilities including those who are mentally disabled, the researchers said.

As though we needed another reason to understand that the autism generation is growing up.. and when they do, will they have the chance that others did? Or will they be tossed aside by a society that doesn’t value the gifts they have?

This is a big story.. 1 in 3 is a lot. Just as 1 in 88 is, too.

PLANETS GONE ROGUE? WHAT IS BEHIND NEPTUNE?

According to one astrophysicist, something lurks behind Neptune: A rogue planet. A new entry to our solar system maybe? The newest theory of a dark icy planet yet undiscovered comes from Rodney Gomes of the University of Brazil. As expected, it sparked quite a controversy after world media picked up the story and circulated it across the planet.

And also as expected, theories abound.. is it Nibiru, the famed planet X that so many officials say isn’t existent at all?

We know this: If this planet exists, it is about four times the size of earth, according to Gomes.  He also theorizes that if it’s there hiding behind the known Neptune, it was kicked out of its star system and picked up into orbit by our own sun.

Dramatic theories from an observation yet unproven, of course.

But consider this: Kepler is finding, constantly, planets. Some massive. Some possibly able to harbor life. Some maybe water. Some with two suns. This universe is still unfolding. We are tiny spokes on the wheel of something grand. Are we even aware we are on a wheel as we spin into infinity?

Gomes’ theory of another planet remains a debated theory. If it would pan out into science fact it would be spectacular, but also perhaps not overly exciting. Who knows what else lurks out .. there.

Science is often slow to embrace new truths, anyway. The educated community of people with esteemed degrees is giving the third degree to Gomes’ ideas today all over the net.

Bunk.

Unreal.

We have 9 planets.

All that they say.

If we had a tenth, it could certainly throw off a great deal of fact we’ve been taught.. plus would lead to the inevitable ripping up of science textbooks.

And if it’s Nibiru? Well then, as imagined, all bets are off.

Something else to be scared of, something with a scary name: The "Devil's Breath"

It can block free will.

Wipe memory.

Create ‘zombies’ out of victims.

It can kill.

It is being dealt on the streets of Columbia and … well, as most drugs do, will most likely make its way around the world.

But no fear, governments are no strangers to the ramifications of the drug:

In modern times, the CIA used the drug as part of Cold War interrogations, with the hope of using it like a truth serum.

However, because of the drug’s chemical makeup, it also induces powerful hallucinations.

The tree common around Colombia, and is called the ‘borrachero’ tree – loosely translated as the ‘get-you-drunk’ tree.

Some news stories are cautionary tales to remember youthfulness doesn’t equal invincibility. But it would be very unfair to label George student’s Aimee Copeland ordeal that. After all, she wasn’t really doing anything dangerous.. but still ended up through the freak laws of nature contracting a rare form of a flesh eating disease..

The story has received a lot of worldwide attention. It’s scary to think.. zip lining with friends one minute, in a hospital after the water had germs that got into a cut and gave her a flesh eating virus. She lost a leg already.. She may lose her fingers. And her family has yet to tell her about her condition…

Something seems so wrong about this in the grand scheme of things. She is on a hospital bed going through an intense ordeal of human suffering, she has not a clue as to the ramifications of what happened to her, and yet the rest of the world reads about her situation.. The rest of the world is only connected to her by words and brief seconds on nightly news shows.

Yes, indeed, something just seems unfair about life sometimes.

The section from the ABC story that hit me the most:

"Aimee appears to have normal brain function at this time, which is something I’m celebrating because within Aimee we have a very compassionate heart and an incredible mind of intellect," said Copeland’s father, Andy Copeland.

Aimee Copeland was riding a homemade zip line near the Little Tallapoosa River May 1 when the line snapped, causing a fall that cut open her left calf.

Doctors at a nearby hospital cleaned and closed the gash with 22 staples, but bacteria that burrowed deep into the wound caused necrotizing fasciitis, a rare but deadly infection that claimed her leg one week ago.

Copeland’s family said she’s coherent and able to nod and shake her head, a gesture she used to pick the Grateful Dead over the Rolling Stones Thursday, according to her sister Paige.

"I just told her if she keeps improving like this, she’ll be out of here in no time," said Paige Copeland.

I just cannot fathom going through this. But even more cannot fathom watching someone else..

Thoughts are with this person. I hope to hell that the universe gives her as good of a spell of luck as it did give her bad luck. How unfortunate..

If you pray do it. If not, do it anything. She needs something.
