There are stunning satellite images being revealed of just how horrid of a situation Boko Haram has created in the Nigerian towns of Baga and Doran Baga.. The images show before and after photographs taken, and have been released by Amnesty International in their quest for public consumption of the potential horrors that may have been committed on innocent people in both locations.
The images were taken January 2 and then the 7th. Days later, those same towns, if you look closely, have been wiped off the map..
There have been outcries of horror for days now with people accusing militants of killing up to 2000 civilians in their latest route through Nigeria.. If these images are accurate and true, entire villages have been gutted with homes, clinics, and schools being burnt to the ground..
As many as 3,700 structures may have been eradicated.. However, it has been clearly difficult to verify the death toll that this misery has created. But there are disturbing accounts being revealed, such as one Tweeted by Aisha Dabo claiming that a woman was giving birth during the carnage and ‘half of’ the child was out while she was being killed..

News from Columbus Ohio..a substitute teacher is up on felony charges for showing the horror movie THE ABCS OF DEATH to her class! The COLUMBUS DISPATCH has the full story on Sheila Kearns..
The defense attorney for Kearns argued that she had her back to the screen for the film and did not see the graphic sex or murder scenes.. The JURY in the case is going to be made to watch THE ABCS OF DEATH–anyone who has been aware of this film knows what the jury is going to see..
I have written about the ABCs before.. It’s not my type of horror flick to watch for fun.. BUT.. in fairness and, well, in America.. being fired may be the best result. Being kicked off the rosters in the entire state may be fine, too.
But criminal charges?
Prison time? All for a horror movie that, chances are, was already seen by half of the kids in the high school class rooms where it was being shown?
I think that goes well beyond too far.. But even horror movie fans seem divided on whether her punishment equals her crime.. Print reborn!! 3 mil copies of the newest CHARLIE HEBDO magazine have sold out across France.. 2 million more copies are going to be printed to meeting the surge of demand in the nation (AND THE WORLD) for the first paper to be published since the attacks.. Interesting to note, this once had a flailing number of 60,000 prints per issue–and more than half of them were trashed due to the lack of interest. From 60,000 from 5 million.. Math tells me that is over an 8000% increase..

The newspaper, HaMevaser, altered a front-page photograph of the march to remove Ms. Merkel and other female leaders, setting off snickers and satire on social media.
Ultra-Orthodox publications generally avoid pictures of women for reasons of modesty, and their intended audience has been known to scratch women’s faces out of bus advertisements and to bar them from running for public office in their parties. But some people saw the deletions from the Paris photograph as a more serious sin.
CBS News is just one media outlet choosing to show the defiant cover of the new, post-massacre issue of Charlie Hebdo, which features a caricature of the prophet Mohammed shedding a tear under the headline “All Is Forgiven” and holding a sign which says “I Am Charlie.”

I have so many emotions running through my head about this young man—an amazing story. He was trapped inside his body for years.. Could not move.. his parents taking care of him, in a monotonous way, for 12 years.. and yet he now is able to speak through technology and a computer, he wrote a book about his trapped soul inside this body and his encountering of those silent demons of the mind.
Of course some may say the scariest is having to listen to the BARNEY show for hours a day for years—that is horrific, don’t you think?
From NPR, a highlight worth reading:
He was trapped, with only his thoughts for company. And they weren’t particularly nice thoughts.
"No one will ever show me tenderness. No one will ever love me."
And of course there was no way to escape. He thought, “You are doomed.”
So he figured his only option was to leave his thoughts behind.
That was his first strategy — disengaging his thoughts — and he says he got really good at it.
"You don’t really think about anything," Martin says. "You simply exist. It’s a very dark place to find yourself because, in a sense, you are allowing yourself to vanish."
But occasionally there were things that elicited thoughts he could not ignore.
Like Barney.
"I cannot even express to you how much I hated Barney," Martin says.
Since all the world thought Martin was a vegetable, at the special care center where he spent his days he was often in front of the TV watching reruns of the children’s cartoon hour after hour, day after day.
Then one day, he decided he’d had enough. He wanted to gain some small measure of control over his day. So he figured out how to tell time by how the sun moved across a room. That was the start.
Eventually Martin found a way to reframe even the ugliest thoughts that haunted him. Like when his mother said, “I hope you die.”
I cannot even comprehend the magnitude of a child hearing his own mother tell him that she hopes he dies.. and yet she did because she felt he was living in an awful condition..
Yet he came out of it..
His parents are now emotional about the years they endured their trials and he is almost heroic in his description of outlasting his tribulation..
The story is inspiring, and it’s also seemingly one of luck.. not dumb luck, but perhaps a guided sense of purpose type of luck.
I would love to meet Martin and shake his hand and thank him for causing me to stop my own life for a while, slow down, and start re-thinking about a big picture I often forget.. the big picture of humanity.. and more than anything else, the big picture of respecting someone’s dignity and how, no matter what, we all deserve dignity..
This caused me to rethink some stuff and open some old wounds.. I am sure it will you, too, should you take the time to listen and contemplate..
Miracles do happen.
But why?
And why not to all?
Those are those unending questions that make me sleepless at night.
But for Martin, this amazing human, his words and inspiration may lead others to find a way out of their plight as well..

Killeen Police told KXXV the cause of death is unknown and that the soldier’s body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
The soldier returned from Liberia in early January. Soldiers returning from West Africa are supposed to be in quarantine for 21 days after returning to the U.S. However, Fort Hood Officials said this soldier was home on emergency leave and was “self-monitoring himself twice-a-day and report his status to medical officials.”
Fort Hood Officials told NBC News there is no indication had Ebola nor is there any danger to the community.

Central Command’s YouTube account featured videos posted by the U.S. military of air strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria and Iraq. It apparently was hacked to add two videos titled “Flames of War ISIS Video” and “O Soldiers of Truth Go Forth.”

There’s always time for Billy Joel, but after getting a 3am text from a friend saying that songs by him, especially this one, makes him think of me, I found the need to post this Saturday..
This song has been a very important song for me since 1993 when it came out. I find it to be the best song on the RIVER OF DREAMS album and, clearly, prophetic since it was the last time Joel actually crafted a pop album..
Another little secret of this song is that it reminds me of my birthday in September.. and my favorite time of year, the autumn.. and changes, and growing.. and aging.. And all the good and amazing things in life, but all of the troubling as well..
I recently was looking through some old art I drew in high school and found an image of a friend I drew around 1996 and I sent it to him. He and I had a long, meaningful, and nostalgic Facebook conversation that took us from our first Angelfire websites all the way to talking about those from our class of 1999 who have already tragically succumbed to their final fates of death..
This song, I think, can be a soundtrack to life in some way. An anthem—but you can pick what it is an anthem to. Either the goodness of that wedding cake, or sadness of seeing apples fall from trees in autumn.
We all find meaning in something, or at least attempt to..

Daycare in Wyndmoor, Montgomery County shut down after child dies
State authorities have shut down a day care in Wyndmoor, Montgomery County has been shut down following the death of a child.
Apparently footage exists of a worker putting a sheet over a child’s face.
I have no words that describe my anger and disgust. I am sure you don’t either..

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told CNN affiliate BFM-TV that an operation was underway in the Dammartin-en-Goele area, as police hunt the suspects in the Charlie Hebdo attack.

Hours before John Jonchuck Jr. allegedly threw his 5-year-old daughter off a Florida bridge, he called his lawyer “God” and asked her to read from a Bible written in Swedish
Strange or not strnage, what Jonchuck did to his daughter is reprehensible.. NBC NEWS reports,
The 11 a.m. Wednesday encounter in Tampa was so disturbing that the attorney, Genevieve Torres, called police to report that Jonchuck was acting strangely and had just left her office — and she warned that he had his daughter with him.
He “started talking to me and saying I was the creator, I was God and then he wanted to read a Bible of his — I said, ‘I can’t, it’s in Swedish’ — he started being really … I mean, he’s nuts,” the attorney told a dispatcher, according to audio released by the sheriff’s office Thursday.
"What I’m saying is, he’s out of his mind, and he has a minor child with him."
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy specially trained to deal with the mentally ill to speak with Jonchuck, who at that point was at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with his daughter, Phoebe, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies, however, found no reason to detain him.
Phoebe “was smiling and appeared properly clothed and happy,” according to the police report. Jonchuck denied he intended to hurt her or himself, and said he had never been diagnosed with a mental illness.
The pastor of the church said Jonchuck’s behavior was odd — he would say “I am the Pope,” and then, “I know I am not,” but he also told deputies he didn’t think Jonchuck was a threat, the report said.
But Jonchuck, 25, allegedly threw Phoebe from the bridge just after midnight Thursday.The girl fell 60 feet into the cold waters of Tampa Bay and was found dead. Authorities aren’t sure whether the child was alive when she was thrown off the bridge.
It’s difficult to conjure in your mind.. It certainly sounds like things were being conjured in his .. despite whatever mental state he was in or still is in, I doubt there will be much understanding when this presses on to trial..

Science says you might have psychopathic traits if you post a lot of selfies
Here is the gist of the study as reported by the UK INDEPENDENT:
Men who take more selfies have higher than average traits of narcissism and psychopathy, a study from academics at Ohio State University has found.
The research, published in the journal of Personality and Individual Differences, looked at 800 men between the ages of 18-40 who completed an online survey about how many photos they posted on social media, and another questionnaire looking at their personality traits.
It also found men who edited their selfies before posting them were more likely to have traits of narcissism but editing selfies was not linked to psychopathic traits.
I am a bit back and forth on this, quite frankly.
I am not a selfie kind of guy, and typically avoid cameras.. but at times I really enjoy having photographs of myself in certain situations. Nostalgia sets in quickly. I also appreciate that my wife snaps a number of photos of the family for posterity..
However, I also know people who take lots of snapshots of themselves to document, in a sense, their self importance. And yes, they put that colored hue on it courtesy of the iPhone effects of Instagram editing.. Virtually no photo taken anymore is actually of the scene. Instead colors are changed and the edits are done to make the fragmentation look better and the pixelation tanner.
I do not think, though, that every person who is a selfie fiend is also a self-aggrandizing psychopath in the works..
But a lot are.
I think that..
Think back to history, though. I would say this: If cell phones were around during Black Plague, the Middle Ages, the Civil War, the French Revolution, selfies would have been just as popular then as they are now.
Even during the 1800s, it was a major big deal to get a family portrait snapped.. It was historic for a person to get their image solidified in history.
Now there’s a billion selfies being posted every second of the day. And quite frankly, the more that get posted the less they matter.
Psychopaths maybe. But it’s a psychopathic world where no one gives a damn anymore about what you ate or where you went. You simply exist in your own small sheltered world of self importance.

The International Earth Rotation Service will add a leap second on June 30 to sync up the atomic clock time to Earth’s rotational time.
And that is supposedly now going to cause a problem for the internet..

Of course, not every website or company has the sort of engineering resources needed to implement something like a “leap smear,” and when June 30th rolls around in the summer, you can expect to see the odd outage or two. As The Telegraph reports, there are some factions in the US that would like to drop the leap second altogether, but doing so would mean unmooring our concept of time from one of the most fundamental timescales, the solar day, and setting civil time on a path forever diverging from time as measured by our planet. Would it be worth the trouble? We’ll get another chance to find out on June 30th.

I thoroughly disdain the term “polar vortex” .. I liked the 1990s term ‘Arctic Express” much better. It felt happier and more a reminder of winter as opposed to the deadly cold that is going to bite our faces away..
Just look at how cold it’s going to get.. The way it will fear as far as Florida.. this is a deep freeze.
It may not last long. But with temperatures that low who cares.. let it end fast..

“We are aware that a French magazine published cartoons featuring a figure resembling the prophet Muhammad, and obviously we have questions about the judgment of publishing something like this,” Carney told reporters during a midday press briefing at the White House.
“We know these images will be deeply offensive to many and have the potential be be inflammatory,” Carney said in a prepared statement.
The French government reacted to the expected threats by temporarily shutting down embassies and schools in 20 countries with significant Muslim populations.
