Potential Record Ice on Lake Superior May Mean a Cooler Summer

So there you go… get ready for that.

The winter of 2013-14.. the winter that never ends..

Will it be the summer that never begins?

I’ll revisit this post in a few months to see what impact the freeze over had…

The Official Forecast of the U.S. Government Never Saw This Winter Coming

…..but for what it’s worth, the Farmer’s Almanac and the large furry critters that cross the road did.

And so did Accuweather—which seems to be so far ahead of the game on the NOAA all the time…

This is just how WRONG the government was. (Maybe they were too busy writing the code to HEALTHCARE.GOV?)

Heads up for the Mid-Mississippi & Ohio Valleys and southern Great Lakes Region: Today may be filled with violent, severe weather

It’s mid November. It will feel like mid-spring—and the skies above will be just as confused.. it’s not severe weather season but today will be severe in some places.

The threats in this area today include:

-Several intense tornadoes likely
-Several large hail events likely with a few very large hail events to 2” in diameter possible
-Several damaging wind gusts with a few significant gusts to 80mph possible.

That is strong wind.. and that severe weather.. And it is a dangerous situation brewing—hopefully one that will not happen as the NOAA predicts.

Here are the latest warnings nationwide.

And keep in mind that major areas like Chicago and Indianapolis are facing tornado threats today.

Accuweather is running an up to the minute live blog on the weather conditions.

Stay tuned. Be safe.

Be alert.

And as always, be prepared as best you can..

Making plans for your party 44 days from now? Good! It's within the 45-day Accuweather extended forecast.

Get this! ACCUWEATHER is now offering a 45-day forecast.. Make your party plans now. We will see how spot on their computer guidance is.. This will take us right into back to school time and the early autumn.. 45 day forecast?? Seriously? I cannot even imagine this will be accurate on a daily run down.. But it will be able to shed light on the trends.. We can get trend forecasts now from the government, so I assume Accuweather will boast the trend over the 100% accuracy. But either way, Farmers Almanac, get ready, Hurricane Henry is closing in. Jumpin Joe Bastardi left long ago..

The Saturday morning Frankenstorm update

All of those links are worthy to look at now and as the storm continues.

Here at Coal Speaker base, it appears as though Sandy is going to be making a direct run for my neck of the woods. As she does she is going to be bringing hell and high water to numerous mid-Atlantic states.

I worry about the storm surge in New York City, along with the underground subway system. I really do. They are prepping for disaster, but I don’t know if they are ready for catastrophe (which we all hope to hell does not occur)..

The wind will be a major issue. I doubt my power will stay on, though I hope it fends for its electrical life as Sandy hovers over.. Also a fear: The rain. Last year Lee and Irene dumped enough to flood out so many places here in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware.. Remember though 8 to 12 inches of rain fell over a week. This time the rain will be just as heavy and fall within 3 to 4 days. That will make situations much faster and dramatic. Flash flooding instead of a slowly creeping water line.. All this while power is out..? This is going to be a truly devastating storm for so many people..

If only divine intervention could toss it out to see.. Or Governor Chris Christie’s mighty blow from his 500 pound bag of wind. Neither appears likely at this point.

Accuweather report details out the river projections

The Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, Pa., is projected to crest 5 feet above major flood stage according to the National Weather Service hydrologists early this weekend. At this level, flooding will occur along heavily traveled routes 11 and 15, and US 22/322.

Widespread flooding will also inundate the residential sections of Front and Second Streets and in the city’s Shipoke area.

The Harrisburg Patriot News reports that Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson declared a state of emergency.

Flooding of roughly 25 percent of Bloomsburg, Pa., is projected, including major inundation of the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. The projected crest of 31.5 feet should narrowly surpass the level recorded during the deluge unleashed by Agnes in 1972.

Just read an urgent weather bulletin from the National Weather Service about heavy snow and ice beginning tonight. It’s been raining heavy all day .. a few folks said “at least it’s not snow.”

Now it will be…

Jinx.

Maybe I should start believing myself more often: On February 27, Accuweather reported and this website re-linked a possibility that this weekend’s rain would turn to snow.. I suppose that turned out to be true after all..

For those along the East Coast drenched in rain, be forewarned.. it may soon turn to a blinding heavy snow accumulation reminding everyone that March still can act as a lion before the lamb sets in…

You know the big storm that is set to impact 100 million Americans in time for Groundhog Day?

Well, news just got worse.. it could end up being a significant ice storms in a lot of places by Wednesday.. With a half inch to an inch of set set to fall after several inches of snow, it may potentially be chaos by Wednesday morning .. I was hoping for a pure snowstorm if anything.. an ice storm is surely not something anyone wants to experience.
