A MAJOR SOLAR FLARE CAUSING LOW NORTHERN LIGHTS.. AND A PLAN FROM OBAMA?

I have been paying a lot of attention over all of my years on this site blogging and clogging up the networks about solar flares and the like.. See evidence here (http://coalspeaker.com/tagged/solar-flare) ..

Tonight, there is a chance that northern lights will be as low as my state of Pennsylvania.. that’s a big deal. Far down here. It was a major solar flare and storm that obviously caused such an event.

And such an event could be a catastrophe..  And now timing from the Obama Administration couldn’t be more impeccable. A solar flare awareness is evident.. hopefully cool non-flared heads will prevail and this nation will advance beyond 20th century technology and insulate our grid. It would be a stunning achievement for the President–call it a new Dwight Eisenhower interstate system.. it could create jobs and maintain future economy might and security.

A failure?

That could be awful.

As FOX news reports, about the White House plan and obvious dangers:

“The efforts undertaken to achieve the objectives of this strategy will establish a national approach to the security and resilience in the face of our improved understanding of the seriousness of the space-weather risk, and the steps we must take to prepare for it,” Suzanne Spaulding, undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate, said Thursday during an event hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) that discussed the new documents.

That risk is indeed serious, many experts say. High-energy solar flares aimed at Earth can affect the operation of orbiting satellites, and the most powerful emissions can even pose a risk to astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Of even larger concern are coronal mass ejections (CMEs), huge eruptions that send clouds of solar plasma streaking through space at millions of miles per hour. CMEs that hit Earth can spawn intense geomagnetic storms, with the potential to disrupt power grids, satellite navigation and radio communications temporarily.

In March 1989, for example, a strong CME caused a blackout that left 6 million people in the Canadian province of Quebec without power for 9 hours, OSTP Director John Holdren said during Thursday’s event, which was webcast live.

The news just so happens to coincide with a major solar storm.

All of earth should take notice.

Amazingly high intensity solar activity has led to this potential for the week: The northern lights as low as Pennsylvania .. Amazing .. I’ll be watching from my back yard so as long as the view is good. Right now as I type his the sky is clear and the atmosphere is warm..

A reminder from the sun: We are tiny spokes in the wheel of the universe. And our grid is always in danger.

But until the end, enjoy the beautiful light show coming our way…

Champagne supernova in the sky. Is the sun going to go wild?

Just read a very interesting but unscientific article on a website claiming that the sun was getting whiter brighter an hotter than ever before.. There weren’t any findings within the text of the story that back up the author’s point of view but there were rather vague memories from when he was younger.. He recalls a time when the sun was more yellow and less heated, according to his generic recollection of events..

It’s an interesting thought, plus one that others have spoken about in recent years. There seems to be a fear that the sun is going super nova.. It’s the newest end of time end of the world conspiracy concern—and has little to no hardcore evidence backing up that theory..

But I traveled into my own memories … I recall, as well, a bright orange yellow sun. I remember hot days that were not oppressive.. Whether what the author of of ConspiracyHQ’s story believes is a real fear or not, my memory also had me thinking of a kinder and gentler period of time for weather on this planet..

So I’d be curious of thoughts from readers out there. Do you believe that memories can make a mind believe the past was better than it was or is the sun going wild and ready to burn a hole right through the planet earth?? I would love thoughts from all..

AND IF THE BIG FLARE HITS, THERE WOULD BE NO PLACE TO RUN

Ask anyone who knows me. I get paranoid about solar activity. Really, I monitor SpaceWeather.com like it’s my son’s baby monitor while he sleeps.

And when that big flare hits?? Yes, like you I won’t be ready. And just like you I’ll hope for the best. Although from all the doomsayers that I read on a regular basis, the best may not occur should a massive flare actually hit this planet head on.

And here is the latest example: A scientist is warning of dangers to the power grid over the next year as the solar cycle hits its ten year max.  Mike Hapgood is the scientist quoted. And he has credentials, as he specializes is Spaceweather amongst other prestigious things.. Then again, all these folks who say doom is only a flare away have credentials. According to most, we are overdue.
And we are overdue for a major quake in the New Madrid and Yellowstone.
And the Canary Islands.
And while we’re at it, John Moore is on his radio show predicting doom and gloom with a planet X Nibiru on August 17 or so.. Coast to Coast AM will tackle the planet X subject later this week, wonder if Noory will allow dates to be mentioned on his show as much as Moore has allowed on his from the Missouri Ozarks?

Doomsayers have always existed, though. And doom never seems to come.
But solar storms have.
In South Africa. Russia. And probably many other places before we had the benefit of power grids and electricity.

I picture a sky somewhere in caveman lure, lit up with Northern Lights all the way to the Southern reaches of the Northern Hemisphere.

Northern Lights are beautiful. Power outages on a widespread scale may not be.
Of course we will take what we get, as really when talk about the sun, there is no choice BUT to take what you get. Solar storms burst out like big burps from our star.

Would we be back to the stone age? I don’t know.
But for a while a while we’d learn how modern life can be crippled by something that is much too much beyond the control of all of our combined egos in this egocentric world

HOW LOW WITH THE AURORA GO!?

The X flare blasted off the sun yesterday with ferocity.. According to SpaceWeather.com, the timing of the event has changed as the CME which blurted out is moving faster than expected..
According to the site:
REVISED FORECAST: The CME launched toward Earth by yesterday’s X-flare is moving faster than originally thought. Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab have revised their forecast accordingly, advancing the cloud’s expected arrival time to 09:17 UT (5:17 am EDT) on Saturday, July 14th. Weekend auroras are likely.

The other question for skywatchers: How low will aurora go? NASA has a site to monitor it.. If you’re in a lucky Northern state in the United States you may get a glimpse of some beautiful images..

Here is the NASA site with the map
Stay tuned..

The Earth has been lucking out lately, but solar events continue to get stronger

The UK DAILY MAIL reports what we already seem to be aware of: Solar flares just seem to be stronger and stronger in recent months..

Last week we have been seen numerous M class flares and one strong X class flare explode from our sun. Some sunspots have been so large that they 15 Earths strung together..

2013 is expected to be the big year for solar events as the sun heads to its peak of its 11 year cycle…

And if just the right elements come together, perhaps the Ed Dames Killshot will happen. But Ed Dames is just crazy… Right?

A space weather forecaster is warning: A truly damaging solar storm could happen soon, and the world is not ready

Not ready at all!

A few people have said over the years I’ve don’t this site that there have been too many solar updates.. so many sunspots, so little time. And I have stood by my fascination and fear of the sun since day one.

Mike Hapgood’s conclusion makes me continue to fear the blast that do harm. Hope it never happens.. but people who stare at the sun long enough know it will.
