THE PAST IN COLOR!

1928 AS IT WAS.. PHOTOGRAPHED BY A CLIFTON R. ADAMS FOR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IN AUTOCHROME..

And seen now.

IN the 21st century..

The past is amazing when you see it as it was..

History is funny like that. It does not seem real until you see it more like it was.. in real ways.. in color. As it was to people then.
Then it seems real.
Very real..

With weird disasters and weather calamities making headlines around the world, it should be notable that past events were often even weirder—one such event occurred in 1919.

The ‘Great Molasses Disaster’ in Boston killed 21 people and injured 150.. It was exactly what it sounds like: A molasses flood.

A large molasses storage tank in the city burst on January 15, 1919.. The wave ran through streets at 35 miles per hour..

The aftermath was sticky ..

Men, women, and horses all perished in this bizarre accident.

The cleanup took two weeks.. 300 people.. and 87,000 man hours.

For years after, historical accounts say, hot summer days also featured the smell of molasses..

The youngest death was a ten-year-old and the oldest was 76.. The people ranged from teamsters to the unemployed to homemakers..

More proof that real news is stranger than fiction—and that events of yesteryear are often weirder than those of today.
