A few more points on the TUMBLR switch.. And some final points

I posted a message on my Coal Speaker Tumblr account last night that I was switching away from the David Karp owned social media platform.. And little did I know how impeccable my timing was..

A few years ago when Yahoo bought up Tumblr, lots of people had a mass exodus as users got freaked about the possibilities for the future. Remember Geocities anyone?

Now Marissa Mayer me be doing something even worse..
See, regardless of its problems, Tumblr was a shining bright spot for a lot of creative people. It was autonomous.. Tumblr had a terms of service that cussed used humor. It was a bit different. Karp's creativity was evident.

But now Mayer is reigning in the independent blogging platform.

Yesterday it was announced through various media sources that Mayer was going to shake things up at Yahoo and, in doing so, bring Tumblr more closely into the Yahoo business model instead of having it exist as an independent arm of the company. Meaning... Yahoo is going to take charge.

As a matter of fact, Matt Rosoff and Matt Johnson--the Matts--both reported in BUSINESS INSIDER that Mayer asked Karp which CEO in the company he wants to work for..  He gets to pick his poison, I suppose..

The original report was not filed by the MATTS at the Business INSIDER, but instead THE INFORMATION. I just wanted to use the Matts in a sentence.

And with the news of the shakeup, other media outlets are beginning the pile on. Tumblr users, to my sense, still have yet to figure out how mighty of an issue this is.. TechDigest asks if Tumblr is about to be ruined by Yahoo --they sort of have that reputation in the tech world of doing that..

But I actually got a question last night on my first post on this platform about why I switched away from Tumblr. There's two reasons, actually.. First off, there's a certain sense that Yahoo is going to destroy what good existed on that platform. I'd rather just be me.. no Dashboard, no other people telling me what news of the day is important.. no pretentious snarky comments, well besides the ones I will be making..  And Yahoo is only going to prohibit the best of Tumblr from surviving. Mark my words. It may not be today or tomorrow, but within five years, the TUMBLR site as it has existed for almost a decade will vanish and internet bots will take over.. It's all not going the right way..

Secondly, one other reason I decided Tumblr wasn't the platform was this: I got way too busy trying to just update to stay relevant. But with each update--and very proud of them I am--there was no attention paid. Except to one thing. I have only 700 followers on Tumblr, a nice number but considering that most people don't make themselves, don't check the site, or just are fake anyway, the numbers' significance dwindles. Of all of the posts I was proudest of, the post that made the most traffic come to my blog was a GIF image of Katy Perry's breasts slinging around in the wind.. Yes.. the internet these days.

One more thing, and this I promise (maybe) will be the last Tumblr-ish related post, at least in relation to my evolving away from the service: I was uniquely creeped out when I would post images of my son Ayden as he grew up, only to have the pictures 'reblogged' .. I guess I can only blame myself. And as a matter of fact, it led me to stop posting images of my child there..

But there's always Katy Perry.
Giggling forever in eternity.
