Top of the morning
Perhaps there are two lessons learned here.
First, Facebook is not private. Even if you think it is.. even if you set it to private.. even if you believe you’re getting away with untoward comments.. you will be seen.
And secondly? Don’t be stupid, racist, and ignorant. If you’re stupid, racist, and ignorant, then stop being you.
It will save you the agony of such things as this article describes after the viral dust settles..
Childhood’s End trailer..
Looking good
The threat indicated that the violence would take place Monday at 2 p.m., according to statements posted on several school websites.
The statement on Drexel’s site indicated that the threat came via social media.
“Since the shooting last week at a community college in Oregon, the FBI has seen similar social media postings throughout the country,” the Drexel posting reads.
The statement posted on Penn’s website reads: “In an abundance of caution we are working closely with Federal and local Law Enforcement Agencies to monitor this unspecified threat The Division of Public Safety has increased our police, security officer and CCTV patrols.”
The schools also said in their statements that security patrols would increase on campus Monday.
The schools will be operating normally on Monday, but the statements urge students to report any suspicious activity.
More from the NY POST story:
Bre Larson, 19, who is studying psychology at Umpqua Community College, in Roseburg, had planned to do her homework in the school library at 10 am Thursday, when she was struck by a powerful premonition.
“I had planned go to there to make a Power Point presentation for my speech class. It’s my favorite place to study. I set my alarm for 9 am but I got this weird feeling,” the second-year student said.
“I was talking to myself, thinking, should I go? Something didn’t feel right. It was sort of an instinct, ” she said, adding she went to a gym to work out instead.
…
He clearly opposes the big bang theory:
“I’m the type of dude who always wants to figure it out. Science makes a lot of sense. Then I start thinking — wait, the ‘big bang’. For a ‘big bang’ to create all this is more wild to think about than thinking about there being a God. Imagine putting a bunch of gold into a box, shaking up the box, and out comes a Rolex. It’s so preposterous once people start saying it.”
Good article. My thoughts:
I may not always appreciate the actual type of horror given to us by Eli Roth, but it’s creative and new.. it’s also, as the WASHINGTON POST says, paving the way for horror films of the future..
There are two points of the POST article I’d like to give emphasis to..
First:
Another year later, “The Green Inferno” is finally hitting theaters through an arrangement with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, which has stamped its imprimatur on franchise hits including “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious,” “The Purge” and “Sinister.” Released under Blum’s new BH Tilt label, the film opened in wide release without an expensive marketing campaign, relying instead on a viral push that taps into Roth’s considerable fan base while eking the most out of modest returns at the box office. (It earned $3.5 million in its opening weekend.) The online strategy seems entirely in keeping with a film that includes the Twitter handle of every cast and crew member in the closing credits. And it also minimizes expectations for the type of extreme horror movie that has fallen out of fashion but has long been Roth’s stock-in-trade.
That is pretty amazing if you consider it.. the Twitter names of all of the stars. That is brilliant and new, in this modern age, it also gives people a reason to stick around for the credit and get their smart phones out..
The other point is about the GREEN INFERNO itself:
How edgy and dangerous exactly? “The Green Inferno” is Roth’s attack on what he calls “slacktivists,” those socially conscious collegians who opine about the issues-of-the-day on social media but approach them with minimal commitment or depth. As punishment, Roth sends a group of them to the Amazon rainforest, where a mission intended to protect an indigenous tribe from developers ends with the same tribe killing most of them and serving at least one for dinner.
“People get involved in a cause in ‘The Green Inferno’ not because they care about saving the Amazon but because they want credit for saving the Amazon,” says Roth, who likens it to the hashtag activism of #Kony2012, #FreePussyRiot and #BringBackOurGirls. “They’re not happiest when they shut down the developers. They’re happiest when they’re trending on Twitter and when they make the front page of Reddit. That’s what I see is going on right now. Everyone’s tweeting the hashtag of the week because they want to look like they care.”
Now that is cutting edge. Pun intended. It is a mockery of our times, an edgy masterpiece of horror that inflicts the pain of social status, creates the burn of unfollowing.. and yes, becomes another example of how horror imitates reality.
I have said many times over, horror movies of any given era will showcase the culture of that time.. (as does pro wrestling) .. in this case, the GREEN INFERNO will be a lesson on the ‘activism’ of our age, the computer wielding folks who quite honestly don’t do anything except type on a screen or phone…thus not changing anything, but just are trying to get followers..
Have you ever wondered what the most popular horror movies were in your state and zip code?
Now you can find out.. with the help of the Halloween Express website, a complete summation and scientific (I assume) study has been listed to show what’s what around you, and if you’re in the mainstream of horror movie watchers ..
The big surprise for me: ALIENS is the most popular horror movie in the entire nation except for the states of Rhode Island and Delaware. Those states like PSYCHO.
Americans may be out of harm’s way when it comes to Hurricane Joaquin, but the folks across the pond may not be..
Take a look at some of these weather models and forecasts of where the track for Joaquin may take it..
Looks likely that the storm impacts the British Isles at some point later this week or the weekend.. Most likely with strong ferocious winds and rains.. Stay tuned in that part of the world..
Matt Moore, (
@WGALMattMoore ) a weather forecaster for WGAL in Harrisburg, posted this image Sunday October 4 2015 of the erosion that is taking place along some New Jersey beaches..
This looks more like the cliffs of Maine than the quaint sandy getaways of the Garden State..
This image was published by
MarylandWeather4cast .. it shows the scene in Ocean City, where the sand has forgotten its place and taken over the boardwalk thanks to ocean help..
Flash flooding has spread to South Carolina, residents are stranded in water in some locations..
There continues to be the ‘once in 200 years’ title added to the flooding in that state..
I have seen a number of videos this morning showcasing moments when the ocean is coming onto the land and gobbling up parts of properties build dangerously close to the Atlantic ..
This is NOT because of Hurricane Joaquin–that storm is racing to Bermuda and will cause all sorts of hell and havoc . This instead is because of a coastal storm
Such drama with the Art Bell show, all of the time.
It started with this:
It followed with Leo Ashcroft leaving the program and the network over whatever disagreements exist behind the scenes.. then the former newscaster went on Facebook to complain he wasn’t paid and lots of other things about Bell.
The truth is Leo made lots of money. The real deal was he got paid by the commercial’s that ran in his newscast and it was a lot. On top of that he got 1% of total ad revenue which was about to be raised to 2 % but he quit because he said he could not get along with Keith. After I told the exact truth at the start of the show last night he now hates me I see. The guy is in total meltdown mode. I feel sorry for him. As for the offer he said he got from Coast, that was told first to Amy because he wanted to take her along with him but she refused. He also told Heather about it both on the phone and In print (which she has) and finally he told me as well. I am still not sure if it was real or he just made it up as a bluff, either way it’s bad. I was not going to say a word on the Friday show even as stressed out as I was about the situation but he started posting crazy stuff on his FB site asking people to email me or call in on open lines so I felt I had no choice as the messages started to roll in.
Art
Then someone posted this on BELLGAB:
Then..
Well..
The ‘then’ is still being written.
As the cactus turns.
From the AP:
Officials said the crew - 28 Americans and five Poles - earlier reported they had been able to contain the flooding. The Coast Guard said it had covered more than 850 square miles in its search so far.
“We’re going to go and try and save lives. We’re going to push it to the operational limits as far as we can,” Coast Guard Capt. Mark Fedor said of rescue efforts.
Fedor said there were 20- to 30-foot (up to 9-meter) waves in the area, and that heavy winds could have destroyed the ship’s communications equipment. The ship went missing when Joaquin was a Category 4 storm. The hurricane has since weakened to a Category 3.
This is a real image of the ‘Halloween’ version of the Whopper from Burger King.
There’s mixed reaction..
I somewhat think the colors accurately reflect the quality of product you’re consuming anyway.. perhaps even more shows the decay of flesh that takes place in your stomach as the rotting corpse of meat breaks apart before excretion..
Happy meatless Halloween.
An amazing article from the ATLANTIC and how we are ruining our children in comparison to how other countries do their educating..
My son will be 5 soon.. I don’t want him ruined.
I want him to live the way Helsinki does.
Please leaders of the free world, stop ruining our kids.
Now, a team of Berkeley-based scientists are suggesting a sort of compromise, and one based on facts and data rather than attempts to smooth over tensions. According to a recent study that will soon be published in Science, researchers suggest that the asteroid impact may have accelerated the volcano explosions, and the combined fallout from both catastrophes may have been what ultimately drove the dinosaurs extinct. It’s even possible that the asteroid impact on its own would not have been powerful enough to wipe out the dinosaurs.
Multiple reports vary on how many people killed or hurt.. Now information revealed that victims were in multiple classrooms.. Federal agencies repo song now..

Reuters reporting, Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria in the last 10 days and will soon join government forces and their Lebanese Hezbollah allies in a major ground offensive backed by Russian air strikes, two Lebanese sources told Reuters.
This is quickly escalating..
Remember when people thought the world would end September 28? Maybe that date was just the beginning of the end times..
And that is why the movie, in essence, is doomed ..
The videos and images within are scary and haunting.. Sad and foreboding for the future of the state as well.
He AFP reports:
As US Secretary of State John Kerry was in New York trying to coordinate with his Kremlin opposite number Sergei Lavrov, a Russian officer contacted the US embassy in Baghdad.
His message was simple: Russian jets are about to launch air strikes in Syria, please stay out of their way.
Kerry quickly protested to Lavrov that this was not in the spirit of Moscow’s promise to agree a “de-confliction” mechanism to ensure Russian flights do not interfere with US-led operations.
But the strikes were already underway, potentially altering the balance of power in Syria back in favor of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, and Washington was looking at a fait accompli.
JWsurvey has the story..
And it’s a very interesting one about religion, the internet, and the Jehovah Witness church..
Not only Jersey but other states too need to prepare.. The time to do so is now..
PLANE-SPOTTERS have been left baffled by a mystery aircraft which spent hours criss-crossing the skies over Scotland without landing.
The Bombardier Global Express, flight number GLEX, was tracked flying all over the southern half of Scotland on Tuesday afternoon, jetting as far west as Jura before looping back to circle over Ayrshire before passing over Glasgow and heading south to Dumfries and Galloway at an altitude of 40-43,000ft.
A spokeswoman for air traffic control service, NATS, said the plane was definitely not a commercial aircraft and suggested it was probably a military jet.
However, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence confirmed that it did not belong to the British military.
More on the erratic plane flight causing eyebrows to raise..
People seem shocked by this predictions. I am, not.
Everything is eventual. Including this..
Doctor Ian Pearson predicts:
Seems about right..
Just think of the reports from Japan: In 2013, the UK GUARDIAN had a report about why people in Japan stopped having sex, especially young people..
Dr. Pearson is right on.
Right or wrong for the world. Factually it’s happening.
This is the new trailer for the six-episode X FILES series.. just released.
Tom Sykes writes,
The royal family of the oil-rich emirate will no doubt be hoping that the conclusion of the mourning period will bring down the curtain. For many years speculation ran rampant that the charming and glamorous Prince Rashid, who lived a glittering life amply accessorized with racehorses, fast cars, and beautiful women, was a persistent drug abuser and sex addict. In the UAE, the prince’s death has been greeted with hagiographic official obituaries.
In the West, however, the demise of Rashid has cast a rare beam of light on the secret world of the Arab playboys who flock every summer to escape the intense heat of the Middle East, and spend vast amounts of money on Western debaucheries.
The alleged behavior of some of these Arab princelings was highlighted again on Friday, after Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud was reportedly accused of attempting toforce an employee to give him oral sex, before more reports of him sexually accosting five women surfaced.
Lots more secrets to be found.. Exciting times.
Perhaps malls can make a comeback if they open drone stories..
According to the FAA, 1 million more drones will be in the sky with Santa Claus this year..
You may know the name of the Cecil because of Elisa Lam–we talked about her before on Coal Speaker and you’ve surely seen ‘strange case’ descriptions about the incident involving her stay at the Cecil a few years back http://coalspeaker.com/post/64769040500/the-strange-behavior-of-elisa-lam.
CNN also did an article in 2013 after Lam was found in the hotel water tank..
But the Cecil is famous for lots of other bad bad things, too..
This article describes it perfectly and succinctly.
It is a very dark and grim history.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY this year is taking a hotel approach.. the inspiration being the Cecil.
Good vs evil.
It’s not that simple..
This is a good Ted Talk
Now that the Pope is back in Rome, we need to take a good hard look in the mirror and wonder if the security nightmare was imposed on us or created
In Philadelphia, that look has begun
One Philadelphia chef took to Facebook to share how he felt about the planning of the massive event.
Marc Vetri writes, “We’re clearly all thrilled that Pope Francis is here. Never has there been a Pope in history that people have such admiration for while having such a gentle voice that transcends all religions and all walks of life. I can say that I was thrilled that the Pope has chosen Philadelphia to spread his message…and I remain thrilled.
My only regret is the decisions of Philadelphia leaders. Instead of engaging the citizens and businesses around this great city in welcoming the Pope, they have instead decided to roll out the red carpet for everyone making the pilgrimage, and roll us up in the carpet to place in storage until Monday. I imagine a man like this Pope would like to see Philadelphia as is. We are the fabric of this city yet it seems as if the people that make this city great were by in large… an afterthought.”
And this reporting from FOX NEWS on the subject:
A star New Jersey high school quarterback who collapsed and died after receiving a heavy hit during a Friday night football game was a victim of internal bleeding caused by a ruptured spleen, an autopsy revealed Monday.
Morris County Medical Examiner Ronald Suarez noted in his autopsy reported that Evan Murray had an abnormally large spleen which was more susceptible to injury, according to NJ.com. Suarez also determined there was no evidence of head trauma or heart disease and ruled Murray’s death an accident.
Murray, 17, had walked off the field with the help of some Warren Hills Regional High School teammates after taking a hit in the backfield. A short time later, the three-sport athlete collapsed on the sidelines.
Reporting from RT:
The Islamic State morality police Hesbah targeted playgrounds in the city of Mayadin in the eastern Deir ez-Zor province, local sources told the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Several men and women were arrested by ISIS gunmen “for not abiding by Islamic rules on dress.”
A similar crackdown on playgrounds was reported in the ISIS Syrian stronghold of Raqqa, where three women were arrested for not being accompanied by men.
This was the mathish problem I asked last night on my personal Facebook page.. the answers I received were humorous.. But it showcased that the underbelly of humanity yesterday was excited by the prospect that we found water on Mars–water that is flowing.
The choice answers included ice cream, ‘humans,’ aliens, and my favorite, ‘how we got here.’
How we got here..
That has been the long thought inside my own head..
It’s unbelievable to think of how much changed since my grade school years formed my view of the universe–a view challenged by time and discovery. At that time, Mars was barren and desolate. It was only after hearing Richard C. Hoagland tell Art Bell during the 1990s version of Coast to Coast AM that water flowed on Mars that I actually started to contemplate the idea of liquid on the red planet. .
Perhaps that is also why the announcement yesterday wasn’t too surprising to me.
Water on Mars.
The tin foil hat club has known this for years..
I have a few people I chalk up as friends who take the Bible very literally. I have some spirited discussions with them about my viewpoint on that. But for them, the Bible is gold. It’s the word of God and it’s historical in nature.. So playing the devil in the devil’s advocate setup, I often ask them if they would find it reasonable to conclude that Noah’s Ark was a spaceship and the flood actually happened on Mars, the spaceship traveled to earth to escape. LAUGHABLE, they tell me–of course I remind them that their position also could incur as many chuckles as another.
I think now that water has been found, I’m going to tell them it backs up my premise of the NOAH spaceship idea.. Water on Mars. The leftovers of the great flood that ended Mars-humanity.
Of course.. I’m being tongue in cheek.
or am I..?
Liquid water runs down canyons and crater walls over the summer months on Mars, according to researchers who say the discovery raises the odds of the planet being home to some form of life.
This is big big big big…
Big.
The iPhone is the main blame for wretched photos of the supermoon last night.. Truly a breathtaking moment ruined by photography at its worst at night. I’d imagine the people of 2033, during the next blood moon eclipse , will get a mighty chuckle is the current batch of photos still exists.
Syria’s civil war has forced scientists to request the first-ever withdrawal of seeds from a Doomsday vault built in the Arctic to safeguard the world’s food supplies, officials said Friday.
Experts working to conserve and grow cereals with strong resistance to drought and warmer global temperatures can no longer rely on their facility in the war-torn country’s city of Aleppo because it has been occupied by armed factions.
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) said it has made a request to take back some of its samples from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The vault was created by the Norwegian government in 2008 to protect vital crops such as wheat against global disasters, war or disease.
It will be the first time seeds have been withdrawn from the facility, which lies more than 800 miles inside Arctic Circle — midway between Norway and the North Pole — and is the largest vault of its kind in the world. Built into the mountainside on the Svalbard archipelago, it relies on permafrost and thick rock to ensure that the seed samples will remain frozen even without power.
Tonight’s CNN headline can bring some peace to the weary Mormons and extreme Christians who prepped for months for the end times with the Tetrad. We made it through yet another false prophecy..
Not sure when people will begin learning not to believe the prognosticators. Instead, they should pay better attention to documented fact and historical accounts of ice ages, warming periods, and asteroids that have struck and ended life on earth previously. It will happen again.
But not when the ‘seers’ claim that God told them it will..
The power of Christ compels me to not like remakes.. but there is so much hype and hope over the EXORCIST remake that I will hope it’s good, too.
The question for me: Will the vomit scene by CGI or will they rely on the old fashioned pea soup method..?
Nic Cage interviewed on his new horror movie PAY THE GHOST .. the star also talked about the horror genre in general.
He said, ‘I certainly would have participated more in what you call “straight-up horror” if I had been given the opportunities to participate in them earlier on in my career’..
Read more on this. I am with Cage, especially on the slasher body count idea..
Some more media interviews of Cage yielded this interesting factoid about his true thoughts of the paranormal in general: Esquire talked to him about PAY THE GHOST and also his own personal fears.. “I would say that I’m 98 percent skeptical, but the other 2 percent [is] open for the possibility of things.” ..
On the question of whether he experienced the paranormal, Cage responded, “Nothing I would be able to discuss on public record. I’m not going there” ..
Sounds like he may not be doing any Celebrity Ghost Story show, but there may be a basis for the 2%.. I think there is a basis for the 2% with everyone, including me.
When that 2% type of event occurs to you, you’re immediately placed into a mental location you’ve never expected to be. Sometimes you get the same feeling during a NIC CAGE movie (I kid Nic, I kid him) .. but his track record on films is often hit or miss.
Hopefully PAY THE GHOST scares up some cash based off of a strong story line. Often people cringe during Cage flicks. Hopefully if they do during PAY THE GHOST it will be for the right reasons..
CJ Pearson is an immediate success with conservatives for his youthful attacks on the President and Democrats..
He’s a black teen who has been swelling in popularity..
But now it appears that the teen in stardom fever either punked his fans or was punked himself, with no evidence pointing at an unfollow conspiracy.. And more: This young intelligent (I will give him that) teen wants people to sign a petition to meet with Obama–this is the reason, Pearson says, he was banned…
The major story this week was the Papal visit.. covered here a bit too..
There remains a few last minute articles to contemplate regarding the Pope before he goes back to Rome..
Among them:
Did Philadelphia go *way* overboard with security? I know few things not mentioned in the USA TODAY article.. I would argue, based off of what I know, it was beyond overboard and almost paranoid.. Maybe they were listening to the prophecies about end times, or even the Mormons fretting about the Sunday blood moon. The pope has also showcased his energy during his excellent American adventure, but he is now wearyand walking with a limp–and caught on camera stumbling up the steps..
I think people so often forget his age..
But there was one last Papal moment, at this point, that I need desreves some notes..
It’s this: Actor Mark Wahlberg hosted an event attended by Pope Francis in Philly.. He also made a joke about the raunchy movie ‘TED’ in front of Francis..
After Bobby Hill, 14, of the Keystone State Boychoir performed an opera solo, he told Wahlberg that he liked his performance in the movie about an angry talking teddy bear. “He whispered in my ear that he liked the movie 'Ted,’” Wahlberg said. “I told him that was not appropriate for his age. Holy Father, please forgive me.”
He also said “go Eagles”… tacky tacky tacky..
The space agency says a major announcement is coming Monday, a news conference is set for 11:30am ET adn will be broadcast on NASA TV and its website–hopefully it the news is big enough, people will ignore Donald Trump for five minutes and actually give the space agency some time on the major networks..
If it’s HUGE enough, NBC should do the Chimes of Death and give us a special report on their affiliates. Of course it would have to be big news for the Chimes to play.
Perhaps water on Mars is.. or life.. or evidence, conclusive evidence, of either..
One common joke has emerged on the Twitters: NASA found astronaut Mark Watney. Watney is the name of the fictional astronaut stranded on Mars in the movie THE MARTIAN.
While people are in a frenzy with speculation, a part of me thinks this will be just be a ho-hum news conference with little information rendered.
I hope I’m wrong, but that seemingly has happened before with earth shattering news.
The most exciting space story of the year, minus the rodents on Mars images offbeat sites find, has been Pluto and the ever changing way we view that non planet planet. I think life on Mars or evidence of past life would far dominate Pluto..
We will see Monday.
