U.S. law enforcement officials revealed the hack attempts on Wednesday at a conference of American energy firms who were meeting about national security concerns. “ISIL is beginning to perpetrate cyberattacks,” Caitlin Durkovich, assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at the Department of Homeland Security, told company executives.
A survey by smartphone maker HTC found that more than three quarters of those asked (76%) said they judged their peers based on what they saw on their Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook profiles.
In order to make our own pages and lives appear more exciting, 6% also said they had borrowed items to include in the images in order to pass them off as their own and make others jealous.
More than half of those surveyed said they posted images of items and places purely to cause jealousy among friends and family.
Behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings said the trend was unsurprising given the rise of social media.
I think we have seen our friends, family, and maybe if you look in the mirror hard enough, yourself as well do this very thing..
Try you best to make things seem fine.. Seem okay.. But all the while, the darkness of sad and fear creep in. You don’t want to express the real you on FACEBOOK though.. people may not ‘like’ ..
I heard about a study the other day concluding–YES, CONCLUDING the talking head on the news said–that people who drink their coffee black are more likely to be psychopaths..
I like my coffee with cream but on occasion have consumed it black. I suppose those days, more than others, I was likely to have psychopathic tendencies that would not rear their heads when I drank with cream?
Get this, if you like radishes and celery, along with black coffee, than you are most likely a psychopath!
From the abstract:
Two US American community samples (total N = 953; mean age = 35.65 35 years; 48% females) self-reported their taste preferences using two complementary preference 36 measures and answered a number of personality questionnaires assessing Machiavellianism, 37 psychopathy, narcissism, everyday sadism, trait aggression, and the Big Five factors of 38 personality.
The study goes on 45 more pages.
And lots of people are suddenly FREAKED, especially those who either drink their coffee black or are dating or married to someone who does. What secrets.. what scary plot twists await us..
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I clearly drink only black coffee myself, as I believe all quality humans should. And if you think that’s a bit of a strong statement, consider this: There are a number of proven benefits to taking your coffee black — the way the gods intended it to be.
She goes on to say that people who drink their coffee black are more efficient at their time, in better health, thrifty, have wisdom, and don’t take part in useless social rituals.
Is Beca Grim a psychopath? Am I one 50% of the time when I grind my beans black? Are you?
Either this study one of the dumbest ever *I think* or I am in denial and .. well you may be too.
Be scared. Once you go black, a psychopath will never go back.
This is a good video.. 100 years of Halloween costumes that women have worn.
Yes, the 1980s were scary because of the style.
But in my opinion, the 1925 edition of Halloween may be the creepiest and more frightening of all.. it was intended to be fun. But as time beats on, the look has become sinister and mentally disturbing..
I think when everyone first goes vegan they screw up a few times for sure during the transition period. The time that I messed up were when I was drinking alcohol, which led me to quit drinking altogether but my advice would be look up how much methyl mercury and other toxic crap there is in fish and you won’t ever want to eat it again.
A little conversation between me and @highcarbhannah this morning..
If you want to eat and drink healthy and consume what you should, give her site look-see. Also go through some of her videos on Youtube.. very good stuff.
I have been on a long quest starting about five years ago for the ‘one ingredient lifestyle,’ something I have perfected..
Now comes the next stage: Phasing out the consumption of things that are just toxic in nature due to the environment, pollution, and natural origin.
Billy Joel sang that he once believed in causes too and had a pointless point of view..
And then magnets came along.
If we are to believe this study that even a British rag called ‘bizarre’ then we will have to conclude this:
Using a technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), researchers safely shut down certain groups of neurones in the brains of volunteers.
TMS, which is used to treat depression, involves placing a large electromagnetic coil against the scalp which creates electric currents that stimulate nerve cells in the region of the brain involved in mood control.
Researchers found the technique radically altered religious perceptions and prejudice.
Belief in God was reduced almost by a third, while participants became 28.5 per cent less bothered by immigration numbers.
How long until the Republican and Democratic campaign committees begin employing magnet power at conventions or rallies?
The research paper is thorough, describing the phenomenon, pointing out that this star is unique - we’ve seen nothing like it. Kepler has collected data on this star steadily for four years. It’s not instrumental error. Kepler isn’t seeing things; the signal is real.
“We’d never seen anything like this star,” Tabetha Boyajian, a postdoctorate researcher at Yale University and lead author, told The Atlantic. “It was really weird. We thought it might be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out.”
‘Alien megastructure’ sounds like a headline purely meant to stir up interest.. And I am interested.
