The sleep that defies sleep.. some 'weird' patterns emerge in Brazil, unless it's a hoax or mass hysteria..

Reports of a strange sleep epidemic in Brazil: The complaints relate symptoms such as weakness, malaise, fainting, partial memory loss, and in the worst cases, even hallucinations. All victims, simply, begin to feel an irresistible desire to sleep - and then, they just want to sleep..

This was the most bizarre quote from the report on the Brazil sleep disorders:

Hope Yakimova, residing in the village said: People are falling sleeping suddenly, anywhere. Sometimes, some of them, in the same moment, near one of other, standing or sitting. "

It sounds like a creepy scene from a Stephen King book.. I agree with the DISINFO report, this could be mass hysteria..

Hey world.. you’re on Vladimir Putin’s terms now…

There are reports that Vlad the Implaler’s girlfriend, Alina Kabaeva, may light the torch..

And perhaps later light the fire..

AP: Welcome world, where are you?

Apparently no one except Russians are at the Olympics.. So reports the AP:

So far, though, it seems like the only spectators milling about are Russian.

Dina Kobolenko is waiting for you at her tourist information stand near the Sochi train station, armed with maps of this subtropical resort on the Black Sea. She says that as of two days before the Games, she’d seen only a single foreigner - a South Korean. They couldn’t understand each other, though, so had to communicate in sign language.

Another part of the AP dispatch:

A train traveling between Olympic sites and downtown Sochi cheerily announces to visitors in English: “We wish you a pleasant journey!” But on a recent ride, its seats were half empty. And a sweep through four train cars found … not a single foreign fan.

AP: Welcome world, where are you?

What a creepy thing to see when you get to your Sochi hotel room. Sure, no light bulbs and the water is brown, but the dear leader is watching you from the table.. So weird.

The Search For The Internet's Next Top Weather Nerd

This is a very interesting article. During the last few months, I have personally seen many more weather sites popping up on Facebook, many local people trying to be the expert in the area..

I still think however that many of them simply read the top sites, or read what other forecasters are saying about other models, and presented as their own information..

And many of them, therefore, have been wrong.

Wealth of Issues Face 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Athletes, Fans and Journalists

Rooms are missing things. Like light bulbs and shower curtains.
Water is yellow.
But condoms have been handed out.
Only the important things..

Also something about Sochi: Extreme poverty and horrid conditions. What troubles me is how so many are mocking the blight and plight in Sochi.. While it may be ‘beneath them’ it is a reality for the residents of Sochi…

Bill Nye the Science Guy Debates Creationist Ken Ham

A worthwhile debate to watch.. Bill Nye wins. Obviously.

Some more weird stuff going on in Sochi.. First the toilets, then the warnings over water, and now this: Olympic village may have enough condoms but reports indicate they don’t have enough pillows.. .. It is so bad, residents have been told to surrender theirs..

Just think, a random person walking down the sidewalk wearing Google glass look at you and completely ID you, know all there is to know, thus ending privacy once and for all. It’s not science fiction it’s now.

Mystery 'Plague' Hits Texas High School, 700 Students And Staff Members Affected With Violent Illness (VIDEO)

Officials are trying to figure out where the ‘plague’ came from.. Some are actually making a few jokes of saying, saying More Plague equals More Parking.. Others, according to the story, are wondering if it has something to do with the school cafeteria..

But one thing that, for me at least, is unsettling.

As soon as I read the initial reports from RSOE EDIS about the Texas plague infecting almost 1000 people immediately, I remembered something from 2013. At that time, a number of media sources reported that the actual ‘plague’—the Bubonic Plague—was stolen from Texas tech..  I cannot seem to recall a wrap up on the story. I had sort of taken it off my radar of news gathering, simply because there’s too much to worry about already.

When the newest news broke in Texas, my mind immediately went back to it..

While I am certainly and sure that the sickness rolling through that school isn’t the deadly plague of a Bubonic nature,  it’s just amazing to see the word ‘plague’ used to describe the illness. Could it be the media attempting to over-dramatize the situation?

I’m sure if you were one of the 700+ that got sick within seconds you’d say it’s not overly dramatic at all…

Meanwhile…

Is there anyone out there who can tell me if the Bubonic plague was ever recovered?

Frozen solid

Life is pretty much at a standstill at my home base and many others across the Midwest and Northeast… We had a major snow storm and it turned into a major ice storm as temperatures warmed up.

While Armageddon has yet to occur, several forecasters were calling for it. Grocery stores were filled with rude and ignorant humans.. And an occasional bike purchase was made, for some strange reason.

Being prepared is fine. But being prepared by buying every gallon of milk in nonsensical.

Porn's influence is real. Sex education is the answer by Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett

This is a dry graphic article but also eye opening . While I’m not a proponent of banning anything I still think that it’s worth debating for the societal aspect of what porn is doing to men, women, and relationships.
And also, the UK GUARDIAN referring to ‘seagulling’ in the report is pretty darn British. I don’t think you’d see that in USA today.

The tweets sound pretty gross .. There was also a warning to some in a hotel not to wash faces with water.
Boy it sure sounds like people covering his year’s winter games got the short end of the reporting stick in Sochi..

Justice Antonin Scalia says World War II-style internment camps could happen again

I know, there are politically charged arguments concerning Scalia’s comments.. and lots of left leaning folks are slamming him. *(Just as right leaning ones would if Ginsberg or Sotomayor said it)* .. but I agree with him in principle. And certainly, looking at the way human beings act during difficult situations, the way they panic, and the way they haphazardly pass PATRIOT ACTS, it can happen again.
