The AP dispatch goes:
Much of New York was plunged into darkness Monday by a superstorm that overflowed the city’s historic waterfront, flooded the financial district and subway tunnels and cut power to nearly a million people.

The initial explosion at the Con Ed Plant, E14th and FDR.

Different circumstance, I know. But Billy Joel’s song MIAMI 2017 (SEEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT ON BROADWAY) is hitting a nerve tonight.. Good lucky New York City.. and all others along the coast who are battered and bruised by the superstorm known as Sandy.

I cannot even believe my eyes.. Take a look at this image shot by A Burton of Getty Images. It’s water rushing into an underground parking garage in New York City. I am stunned at the sights.. Lots more images like this around the net tonight, including some amazing shots of lower Manhattan in the dark with power out.

The NYC subway system is being threatened by historic flooding..
The Hudson is coming up over the sea wall.. Wind gusts still are hitting the sitting at 90mph.
The next two to three hours are going to be very difficult..
