It really is the perfect summer day

…And it’s made even nicer when you think that we are about halfway through summer.. on the down side now. Sure heat waves are coming and yes, the 90s and 100s will be prominent throughout the nation this coming week.. But there is something about that night time air, though mixed with heat, that reminds you of the cooler coming months.. there are noises at night that remind me of fall. It’s almost as though, especially in late July, that insects and animals begin to retire their senses for another season.

Sure there’s lot of summer to go. But there sure is lots of summer over, too..

It’s amazing to think, but we are pretty much at the halfway point through summer.. Sooner rather than later, leaves will be changing, the sun will be gone.. snow will be falling. Time goes by fast.. Enjoy it while you’ve got it.

There was late word Thursday that Standard & Poors could downgrade the U.S. credit rating in the next three months over the debt-ceiling impasse.. Developing.. Changing.. Downgrading. The fantastic recovery is just so … brutal..

Starry night.. Summer sky

The few joys of summer all at once tonight… Bright moon, cool summer breeze.. Ice cream man.. Beautiful night, perfect. It felt like 1970s suburbia.. No obese kids on computers, just riding bikes, just taking in a simple, plain, perfect summer night. Nights like this make life ‘worth it’..

What I have been wondering..

Maybe this is far-fetched, but I’m curious to people’s thoughts out there..

Which scenario would be more detrimental and far reaching for humanity:

1) If we were told that aliens were on the way and would be landing in 48 hours.
2) If we were told that new research and proven beyond down that there are NO life forms in space, and earth is 100% proven as the ONLY planet with life.

My thought would be that scenario 2 would equal more chaos on earth. I think if we were told that life was coming here, we’d be humbled. Sure, riots would occur and some violence and bad behavior, but I think for the most part we’d be haunted by that unknowing experience of what was going to occur. But I think in scenario 2, humans who are despots or evil already would feel vindicated of punishment. And then the real hell on a scorched earth would begin. After all, if there are no other lives in the universe, who’d care if there were a few more Holocausts or mass murders…

I think similar responses could be garnered by removing ‘aliens’ from the premise and including God instead. Regardless of belief in God, I think humanity itself would be in chaos were it to be told unequivocally that there is no God and we are alone, all alone, here on earth.
