I love how the Associated Press reported the impending Cicada-geddon: 

Scientists even have a horror-movie name for the infestation: Brood II. But as ominous as that sounds, the insects are harmless. They won’t hurt you or other animals. At worst, they might damage a few saplings or young shrubs. Mostly they will blanket certain pockets of the region, though lots of people won’t ever see them.

"It’s not like these hordes of cicadas suck blood or zombify people," says May Berenbaum, a University of Illinois entomologist.

They’re looking for just one thing: sex. And they’ve been waiting quite a long time.

They waited for 17 years for cicada-loving. I will not be planning on  bothering them when  it starts. You shouldn’t either.

Finally, there was some good news in the world

Yesterday in Ohio, police were able to find three different girls who were abducted separately but ended up at the same home … They were found alive.. 

It all began with a frantic woman screaming at the door of Charles Ramsay. 
Then a 911 call.

Then they were safe…and families were elated.

Good news, good news.

But, the media is the media.. so Charles Ramsay, the man who helped them get safe and be safe in this situation, is now being mocked for his actions. Breitbart.com says he is the next YouTube sensation. His quotes are priceless:

I love puns.. People who write them are pretty witty. 

I always wanted to come up with a great pun.. something that could catch on.. I’ve tried.. And finally, I think I came up with one. The problem is, the news event didn’t quite happen yet. But it could.

I was reading some reviews and predictions for the GREAT GATSBY remake.. predictions that it will flop at box offices.. (MORE HERE ON THAT)

So  I would like to officially create a pre-pun for the eventual bad box office numbers that GATSBY with garner: THE GREAT COLLAPSY. Do you like it? Is it ‘pun worthy’? Will Drudge steal it? Maybe the DAILY MAIL?

I guess it is time to end any further speculation that I will return to the air anytime soon. I have given (2) very solid offers a lot of thought and have turned them down. My reasons are many, though I am profoundly sad at the current state of the show, both offers would have been direct competition with Coast and anger is the wrong reason to proceed. Asia will be in first grade in the Fall and getting up very early, I would be up late and sleeping late, I would not see much of her or Airyn. A new CNN/Time/ORC International Poll indicates four in 10 Americans say they are willing to give up some civil liberties to fight terrorism, and suggests worries about terrorism have edged up after the Boston Marathon bombings.

A CNN news alert that was just sent to me from the network..

In my opinion these numbers are somewhat troubling, as the threat of terrorism may be there the chances of you actually being affected by it are quite slim..

The thought of giving up civil liberties and basic freedoms in America just to combat something that will never completely be prevented is flawed logic.

This is always a battle, the battle between freedom and security, civil liberties and safety.. But does it have to be a battle?

You have to admit that law-enforcement agencies did their collective job and apprehended not only the terrorists days after the Boston Marathon but three more today involved with a conspiracy to lie and hide information.. They did that without the 4 in 10 giving up more of their civil liberties, right?

Although we have compromised quite a few liberties over the past decade, with the patriot act and wiretapping and all the rest, the question really remains should we give up any more than we already have, and if we did would it matter a hill of beans are not in the fight against future terrorist acts in this nation

The police response in Boston was massive in the days following the bombing, and the lockdown in Watertown was quite chilling, with all those military vehicles roaming the streets and police freely entering homes with guns drawn on innocent families..

We should support our law enforcement, and the law-enforcement should be free to conduct investigations and their jobs.. But we should also hold them at bay if they step over the line that has been drawn in this country for hundreds of years..

For all of the flaws in this nation we didn’t get where we are by giving up our basic freedoms, and we certainly will make no positive steps in making a deal to give up more..

Before we travel down this road, and before the foreign can become six and 10 or 10 in 10, we should have a very deep and thoughtful national discussion about this topic.. We should be wary of anyone who says they giving up our liberties would equal safety.. That is a snake oil recipe for disaster sold by the devil himself..

Let’s be careful folks, it is a dangerous world, but a future society with no freedoms could be much more dangerous than society that cherishes freedoms..

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, on its official Twitter feed, reported that it had “units on the scene on east side of Mobile River where a fuel barge has exploded and is on fire.” Minutes later, the fire department issued an update stating that two barges had exploded.

Three people who were burned were transported to a local hospital, fire department spokesman Steve Huffman told CNN. He did not describe the severity of their injuries. All people are believed to have been accounted for, Huffman added.

This is a pretty cool puzzle that we just got for Ayden. While he has absolutely no idea how to put it together I am pretty proud to say he picked out Ohio Pennsylvania Florida and Texas is his favorite states.. And knows exactly where they go!

(CNN) - Perhaps the only man in the world who can explain why the Boston Marathon bombings took place is sedated with a tube down his throat, unable to speak.

Suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev was in serious but stable condition at a Boston hospital and cannot talk, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick told reporters.

Also mentioned, apparently, was the prison industry and how many juvenile offenders are locked away for way too long because of possession of the substance..

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will not hear his Miranda rights before the FBI questions him Friday night. He will have to remember on his own that he has a right to a lawyer, and that anything he says can be used against him in court, because the government wont tell him.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in serious condition as civil liberties groups express concerns over plan to question him without reading him his rights

The GUARDIAN reports:

US officials said an elite interrogation team would question theMassachusetts college student without reading him his Miranda rights, something that is allowed on a limited basis when the public may be in immediate danger, such as instances in which it is feared bombs are planted and ready to be detonated.

The ACLU executive director, Anthony Romero, said the legal exception applied only when there was a continued threat to public safety and was “not an open-ended exception” to the Miranda rule, which guarantees the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney.

The federal public defender’s office in Massachusetts said it had agreed to represent Tsarnaev once he is charged. Miriam Conrad, public defender for Massachusetts, said he should have a lawyer appointed as soon as possible because there were “serious issues regarding possible interrogation”.

As I said the other night.. if we are all ok with this, does it say anything about us as a nation? I think yes.

I don't know if you live under a rock or what, but the only thing anyone has been talking about in regards to abortion for the past few weeks has been Gosnell. It should have been talked about back in 2011 when feminists first started reporting it.

Actually I live beneath the giant lump of coal..

But I seriously do believe that the media has not paid nearly as much attention to this as I thought they would have, and you are right it is women’s groups that actually came out against Dr. Kermit way back..

But I am still surprised that for 20 to 30 years everybody was completely fine with this no matter how many people complained to various groups and government agencies..

What's your take on everyone trying to over analyze Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's supposed twitter account?

It’s becoming a little tiring If you ask me. So many non experts thinking they are experts..

To a degree it is normal to get to understand his mind, but equally so many who are analyzing it are not psychologists ..

In the short term, i think we actually learn more from talking to classmates and friends. And we will hear from them.

But it shows that twitter could be an accurate technological window to the soul, in a 21st century sense.
